EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2005 Hey Al - did you see that the Phillies are considering ending their ties to Scranton/W-B, in favor of a team in Allentown? Yes I did. I'm a little upset, but not so much. Allentown's an hour drive from me compared to a half hour for Scranton. Scranton will no doubt pick up another team, as the Mets, Yankees and Orioles would all be interested in that location.
Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2005 (edited) I would have loved the trade if Hudson wasn't included. They could have put Hinske or Hillenbrand in that. That being said, I loved to see Hillenbrand and Hinske go for a good middle reliever which is the only thing this team lacks. The way I see it the big power boost, which is definitely what the Jays needed, more than makes up for the slight downgrade from Hudson to Hill. But if they could have traded Hinske, they would have. They've been trying to get rid of him for awhile now. Even before this deal Hinske was going to be riding the pine if they couldn't unload him. Can Glaus or Hillenbrand play OF at all? I wouldn't miss Hinske whatsoever. Christ, he NEVER swings the god damned bat, and while, this isn't his fault, the expectations have been way to high based on his fantastic rookie year. MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2005 Yay for the rumors of the Os going after 37 year old Jeromy Burnitz to play left field with a 2 year 12 million contract. UGH! Add to the fact that the best starting pitcher left is Jeff Weaver.. Im not sure if I can stand to watch 1 Os game this year. Its going to be terrible. strummer 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2005 Mets sign Chad Bradford to a 1 year deal. Hopefully he can remain healthy and regain the dominance he had against righties a few years ago.

Bradford's still dominant against righties. The problem is that lefties have slaughtered him to the point where he Looper-esqe against them.

EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2005 Garland gets a 3 year 29 million dollar deal from the White Sox. Thats a good deal compared to all the others this offseason. I'm extremely weary of the contract, for two reasons. One, the first year of the contract just covers a year Jon Garland was locked into anyway. Second, that's an awful lot of money to spend for a pitcher with one good season, which included an unimpressive strikeout rate.
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2005 Nice to see the Tejada for Manny and Clement rumors fired up after Tejada went off on the Os for not doing anything over the last month since he got mad the first time (I guess Jeff Conine and Jeromy Burnitz dont count..heh..I wouldnt count them either). If anything, I hope they deal him to an NL team, or at least some team not in the AL East. Boston probably has the best offer (epecially if they pay some of those big contracts as well) but it would be horrible to trade Tejada to Boston and allow them to free up money and get Tejada. Second, that's an awful lot of money to spend for a pitcher with one good season, which included an unimpressive strikeout rate. I'm with you on Garland. It's not that he's not a good pitcher, and he may well be as on point as he was last year for most of the contract, but odds are he shows some drop off, it's not like he was blow away last season, he was a control pitcher on a roll. I wanted to make a comparison to Greg Maddux, but Garland's 2005 doesn't touch any of Maddux's prime years. Can you imagine the kind of loot Maddux would command on this market? I can't believe John Garland is almost (basically) making $10 mil a season.
strummer 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2005 Apparently the Mets are on the verge of acquiring Danys Baez for Aaron Heilman. I really don't like this move.
The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2005 Marlins have reportedly signed Joe Borowski and Pokey Reese to one-year deals. I like the Reese signing; there's no guarantee that Hanley Ramirez will be ready, and Pokey's spectacular glove will be a boon to the young pitchers who will basically be learning on the job. The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2005 Pokey Reese? aw. I wanted Florida's payroll in single-digit millions. Way to go
Mik 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2005 The Marlins have also signed Miguel Olivo. Look out.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2005 I'm not even sure Hanley Ramirez is ready for AAA, let alone the majors. A starting infield job is Pokey's to lose at this stage. I still can't believe the Marlins non-tendered Joe Dillon. Sadly, despite Olivo being a .227 hitter, he's still their best option short of punting defense for Josh Willingham. Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted December 31, 2005 The Yankees signed Octavio Dotel. Interesting gamble to make on a guy coming off Tommy John Surgery. but maybe itll pay off like Leiber in 04. also they apprantly are going to resign Miguel Cairo to back up the infield I got all this at the Yankees site
mike546 0 Report post Posted December 31, 2005 Why in the hell would the Mets trade Heilman for Baez? I'd take Heilman over Baez anyday. Baez is pretty normal expect for when hes pitching against the Yankees, while Heilman held hitters to a .201 average the second half of the season last year. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted December 31, 2005 I just read that Marquis Grissom is going to sign with the Cubs. When I began to read the blurb, I thought, "What's this old timer in the news for." Then I finished reading it. Damn.

Baez is pretty normal expect for when hes pitching against the Yankees, while Heilman held hitters to a .201 average the second half of the season last year. There was something in Newsday saying Heilman either wanted to start or be traded to a team where he could start. Still awful, though.
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted January 1, 2006 I absolutely hate this proposed 4 team trade Os get: Matt Clement Kris Benson Julio Lugo Red Sox get: Miguel Tejada Joey Gathright Mets get: Danys Baez Manny Ramirez D-Rays get: Andy Marte Jae Seo Aaron Heilman Kaz Matsui Supposedly it fits each teams needs, but its rather convoluted to say the least. And the Os make out worse than the D-Rays.
mike546 0 Report post Posted January 1, 2006 The Rays come out life thieves in that one. Baez and Gathright for Marte (great great prospect), Heilman (better than Baez and can start), Matsui (bad part of the deal), and Seo (terrific year) is a steal. Failed Bridge 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2006 I've been to a few messageboards (yes Cartman, one of them was the ESPN board) and all of them seem to be talking about the same thing. Manny Ramirez and Matt Clement have supposedly been traded to Baltimore for Miguel Tejada with the only thing holding it up being Ramirez and a possible contract extension. He evidently wants those final 2 years of his deal to be guarenteed but is willing to take less money than what the options are for.

mike546 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2006 Just read somewhere the Pirates are going to sign Jermey Burnitz, and not the Orioles.
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted January 4, 2006 Its because the Os thought they could take their sweet time doing the physical and Burnitz's agent got worried that a possible deal for Manny would possibly cause the Orioles to back out at the last minute on Burnitz.
