Guest Brian Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 Eh, impartial is a noble dream. Anyway, the reason there will be violence is not because he is black, but because he was a very pivotal figure in the gang truce, curbing a lot of violence. Because of that, a lot of people in the inner city really admire him, and a lot of those people are going to react (and that doesn't even include gangs). It's not about the children's books. Even if it's not widespread, gang retaliation will pick up.

Had he been granted clemency, murderers all over the United States would also claim to be "reformed". The death penalty is there to punish murderers, which is exactly what it was used for today.
The Czech Republic Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 from cnn.com • Watch: Stanley Tookie Williams executed hah
Special K Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 African-American (a term which I find to be more disrespectful and offensive than "black," but which I use anyways, 'cause I know I'd be crucified if I didn't
CBright7831 Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 Hasta La Vista, baby! You're a douche. I refuse to feel sorry for anyone who murders innocent people no matter how much they clean up their life. "You've been terminated!"
Special K Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 "What's the matter, Dillon? CIA got you pushing too many pencils?" As long as we're just doing random Arnold quotes, that's the second best one. First best is the entire script of 'Commando', but that's a little long to quote.
Big Ol' Smitty Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 Hasta La Vista, baby! You're a douche. I refuse to feel sorry for anyone who murders innocent people no matter how much they clean up their life. "You've been terminated!" I don't care if you feel sorry for him or not, it's the whole celebration of death that bothers me. It's a fucked up situation and not something to be gleeful about. The possibility that a "yay, let's kill somebody" dumbass like you might be on a jury is one of the primary reasons that I oppose the death penalty.
Big Ol' Smitty Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 Death penalty opponents would be much wiser to rally behind Cory Maye than behind Tookie Williams. Cory Maye is a black man on death row for shooting a white police officer dead. The officer was part of a paramilitary no-knock drug raid which broke down the door of Maye’s apartment in the middle of the night, when he and his young daughter were sleeping. Apparently the officers thought they were entering the house of a suspected drug dealer, when in fact the building was a duplex and the individual named in the warrant lived on the other side. Maye woke up, took his gun and shot Jones, who later died. Mayes was tried, apparently was not well-represented, and was convicted of capital murder and sentenced to death.
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 Now THAT is bullshit. Are the conservatives torn between wanting to convict a cop killer and wanting to set a bad precedent for defending yourself at home against an intruder?
2GOLD Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 Wow, his lawyer must have REALLY sucked ass. Only thing I can figure is they yelled, "Police! Freeze!" which does change the situation. But if they didn't and he just fired then I don't get how that is not self-defense. Does this mean if a cop breaks into my home and goes for my tv that I just have to help him carry it to his car? Ah, Mississippi....NOW it makes sense why he got convicted. The one major problem we have in this country is most judges refuse to overturn/set aside the verdict by a jury even if new evidence arises or someone ELSE is proven to have done the crime. Well it's good and it's bad to be honest since it does prevent any corrupt judge from flipping a verdict for some little rich brat. As for Williams, the guy was claiming he didn't do it till the end. If Arnold couldn't find any evidence to give even the slightest shadow of a doubt then there was no way he should have granted him a stay. If Williams had admitted to his crimes combined with his work, I think he would have received a stay.
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 Wow, his lawyer must have REALLY sucked ass. Only thing I can figure is they yelled, "Police! Freeze!" which does change the situation. No it doesn't, anyone could just come in at night and say that shit. Are you gonna risk getting shot in the face while waiting to see if it's actually a cop or not?

Just saying it makes the case harder on the lawyer, not that I agree with it.
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 Well that may be true, but the ultimate truth behind the case came when you pointed out how it occured in Mississippi.
Special K Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 No-knock raids are just a terrible concept to begin with. It's clearly going to lead to death on both sides.
Lil' Bitch Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 Arnold Schwarzenegger doesn't care about black people!
Toshiaki Koala Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 Maybe this will lighten the mood. Tookie Williams, age 29.
Failed Bridge Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 Is this the guy that Jamie Foxx portrayed in an FX made for TV movie?
Dangerous A Posted December 13, 2005 Author Report Posted December 13, 2005 Is this the guy that Jamie Foxx portrayed in an FX made for TV movie? Yes it is.
Failed Bridge Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 ok, they shouldn't have killed him. They should have let him keep on doing what he was doing inside of prison. Its not like he was living some great life within those walls. Oh, and Jamie Foxx did an excellent job in that film
Special K Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 ^What is your justification for saying he should live?
Failed Bridge Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 his life was devoted to serving the community even though he knew he was never leaving prison alive. He was doing something real positive and not living a glamourous life within prison because of it. He could have been left to keep on doing what he was doing. They basically just killed one of their greatest tools against gang warfare.

Big Ol' Smitty Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 (edited) Are the conservatives torn between wanting to convict a cop killer and wanting to set a bad precedent for defending yourself at home against an intruder? That's my understanding of the sentiment within the conservative blogosphere. They LOVE shooting intruders... But, on the other hand, they REALLY LOVE the death penalty... The Czech Republic Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 his life was devoted to serving the community even though he knew he was never leaving prison alive. He was doing something real positive and not living a glamourous life within prison because of it. He could have been left to keep on doing what he was doing. They basically just killed one of their greatest tools against gang warfare. But he's still directly responsible for four murders, and indirectly responsible for many more.
Failed Bridge Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 Since then he helped save countless lives. He's dead now so it doesn't really matter either way, but I think it was stupid for them to kill their most effective tool against gang warfare.
Perfxion Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 Yes, their best tool, STARTED gang warfare, so lets keep alive so he could end it. Riiiiiiiiiight.
