UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted December 15, 2005 First, the history: - First big singles match of Edge's career - First appearence of Christian - Marc Mero does the best SSP ever. - The Rock's first ever mega-babyface match. - The first ever heel singles push for Bradshaw. This would be the first night of a two month period when Bradshaw appeared like the JBL of today. He was CUT, got rid of the moustache that night, cut an evil Texan promo, and then squashed Vader. - JR buries Vader the ENTIRE match as Bradshaw squashes him. Vader's last WWF PPV match before being released in a month. - First ever WWF Triple Threat cage match. - Mankind's much-forgotten flying elbow off the top of the cage to a major pop. - The crowd, upset at Road Dogg's voice unable to do the "NEW...AGE...OUTLAWS!" gimmick catchphrase due to "Jarrett injuring his throat", does it THEMSELVES during the match, in unison. (?!?!) - Austin loses WWF Title - Austin goes into "Hogan mode". Meaning, he notices the crowd dying from the sluglike offense from Taker & Kane, and no-sells their previous attacks, and in seconds has the crowd from "Boring..." chants to a rabid craze. - Scorpio is actually made to look like a threat. - Double J gives some "Southern Justice" to Dogg, Gunn, and Waltman...7 years before TNA. - Val Venis' heat is officially KILLED. From super-over good worker at SummerSlam 98 opener, to "Man, this is kinda fucked up he's doing Dustin's wife. Let's cheer him." Which led to "GOLDUST IS BACK, Venis is gonna get it!" Which led to heatless Venis working future matches with Goldust, Shamrock, Gunn, etc. ____________________ Lots of little important things. Man, look back at it. What a storyline to build to Mania. WWE notices Rock's popularity is about to explode. So they capitalize on it, and even trick the smarts who figure Rock will get the "Randy Savage 2nd fiddle" title reign and be a face, and then have him turn mega heel two months later. Set up Mania beautifully. Owen REALLY carried Edge, and it's very noticeable. Fun little show. Thoughts?
Big McLargeHuge 0 Report post Posted December 15, 2005 I used to have this show on tape. The cage match is wild. Mostly for the crowd reaction towards the Rock. A month removed from being a huge heel at SummerSlam to winning the crowd over a guy the fanbase was rabid for just six months earlier (Shamrock). Rock's promo before the match was also pretty cool from what I remember. Didn't Rocky pull off a double People's Elbow in that match?

Man, the way UseTheSledgehammerUh put that show I think I'm going to have watch it again. I thought that other than the cage match it sucked but I'll watch again and see if my opinion changes. CheesalaIsGood 0 Report post Posted December 15, 2005 Actually both the Rock and Foleys promos were built off of Shamrocks lame-ass promo which made them tie together nicely with hilarious results. I still need to know who is "Spaceman" Frank Hickey. Yep, there indeed was a double peoples elbow.
Boner Kawanger 0 Report post Posted December 15, 2005 Some of these things are really stretching to be historical or even historic, but I actually used to give thought to things like this. If something comes to me, I'll try to post it.
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted December 15, 2005 That's interesting. And I do have this on tape. I remember someone jumping from the ring apron and being caught in a powerslam in the Edge/Hart match. I liked that, but I can't remember who did it to who.
Guest Mr. Adam Report post Posted December 15, 2005 Actually, if I remember correctly wasn't there some 20 man battle royale that was put on to some Shotgun or Metal show the weekend before? Although The Rock was in there with a group of jobbers the heat was off the charts. Even coming off a terrible Nation breakup storyline he was still super-over. I may have dreamed that so could someone confirm or deny that for me?
MillenniumMan831 0 Report post Posted December 15, 2005 Yeah, it was Shotgun. They showed a few minutes of it the next morning on SuperStars. The only guy I remember being in it for sure other than The Rock was the Brooklyn Brawler. I'm sure the ring was littered w/ DOA, Boricuas, ect.
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted December 15, 2005 Edge jumped into Owen's powerslam off the apron. Some angles it looks contrived. Replay it looks good. Rock: "So if you two pieces of monkey crap have enough sugar in your testicles, then you come to the ring and face the Great One. And the People's champion will climb the People's Cage, Inch by Damn Inch..." Mankind: :::cuts funny promo::: end with "...Sugar-Coated Testes? Is that a new breakfast cereal?" JN News 0 Report post Posted December 15, 2005 I loved the Edge/Owen match, because Edge was doing his mysterious shtick. Plus, it was one of Owen's better days.

Austin would later repeat this exact same thing with Chris Jericho at No Way Out 2002.
