OK, watching this Raw (the Tribute to the Troops show) made me think of something...

What are some places, currently active, that would be good for outside WWE events?

I ask because I think outside WWE events are neat, because they have a different look than typical WWE events.

The Stones concert destroyed the brand new outfield that the Sox had laid down during the off season. This caused them to have to replace most of the outfield and delay the start of a game to allow the grass more time to take.

They didn't give it enough time between Red Sox games to fix the field and the field wasn't covered up properly enough because of the huge stage they had and the entire center field had to get redone because of it being torn up. This within 24 hours, mind you.

I suppose that it would be possible to prepare better by having the entire field covered, like they did with Safeco...but that's a lot newer than Fenway. The asking price I'd imagine is insanely high so they'd have to do a legit sell out to make it possible.

Also, weather is a factor, obviously. And I doubt the people in charge of Fenway wouldn't be exactly hot for the idea, especially after what happened this past summer with the concert.

Ah, OK.

Personally (because I'm close to there) I would like to see an event held at either Citizen's Bank Park or...um...the other place which name escapes me...in Philly.

Or, for a house show, The Sandcastle in Atlantic City (minor league baseball stadium...Atlantic City Surf play there)

Safeco Field in Seattle, were WM 19 was held, was partially outdoors. It had a roof, but the sides of the stadium were open, it was pretty cool.

But anyways, I've actually thought about this aswell, as far as my hometown is concerned, Heinz Field would make a great outdoor venue, but it the show would have to be in the spring or summer. I went to a Kenny Chesney concert there last July, and it was awesome.

Bank 1 Ballpark in Phoenix would be good, too. That might be a nice venue for a WM.

Also maybe Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, for a WM, the weather down there in March should be ok.

The only thing with outdoor stadiums, is that they are so big, and I don't think the WWE could fill any of them to capacity currently, even for a Wrestlemania.

Well, if business gets bad enough, they can always return to Caeser's Palace.

Wasn't there a wrestling event in the late 70s/early 80s that got rained out? Either it was NWA or AWA.

I think one of the early Great American Bash's was held in a rainstorm ... maybe '84 or '85. If my memory serves (which is a big if) there was a Flair/Koloff main event that night.

Why does it have to be in an NFL-sized stadium? Why not a smaller stadium, like where a minor league baseball team would play? Even a small, D2 college's stadium (such as Harvard's stadium) would work, and look pretty old-school, to boot.

Rutgers stadium has a nice look to it, and it's pretty close to MILLIONS of people. and it's not that big.

I think it would be cool to do something at Reliant Stadium (or any place with a retractable roof), where you can have an outside atmosphere with a closed roof. Gives you some alternatives if the weather doesn't cooperate.

Well, in that case why don't we just have one in my backyard then? I'll set up the the folding chairs and my mom will make snacks.

Some of the newer soccer-specific stadiums with 20,000+ seating like Home Depot Center in the Los Angeles area would make sense. They're generally equipped to handle multiple uses such as concerts in addition to soccer. It's not too big a stretch to believe that the occasional WWE special show could work in such facilities.

It would be a total money-loser, but for some weird reason i'd like to see a show held in new york's central park (if they can have shakespeare there,,,,)

The Central Park idea could work, they've had a few concerts there that have drawn well and I'm sure it wouldn't cost that much to set up, all you need is a ring, stage and some big screens ect.

It was made more specifically for tennis.

They should have WM22 outdoors here in Phoenix. In rememberance of Eddy. I still wouldn't go, though.

It might be cost-prohibitive to hire the extra cops and reroute traffic for the day.

Well, seeing as the places that I suggested hold roughly 10-15k people, it wouldn't be asinine to suggest that they hold a show there. My guess - and this is just a guess - is that your backyard wouldn't be able to support a crowd of that size.

Thanks for the smartass suggestion, though.

I have long thought that WWE should do a contest where the winner gets SmackDown! taped at or near their house. It would be great publicity for the company and could liven up one of those doldrum weeks between Judgment Day and The Great American Bash.

They do a tent show circuit around the Northeast regularly, or used to at least (said "tents" holding thousands of people). I remember one of the Boogeyman's first house shows was outdoors (in Missouri, I think) and they had to cancel it after the firs t couple matches due to the thunderstorm.

The big reason they don't do a lot of outdoors shows is 1) inclimate weather (rain/heat/cold), 2) makes all the expensive lighting rigs, etc they lug around useless.

How about Panama City Beach, Florida? It'd work on so many levels.
