Special K 0 Report post Posted April 25, 2006 The thing is, Aaron Rogers is going to thrown into the fire. Favre is a legend, for good reason, and they're never going to hand the reigns to his rookie replacement halfway throuhg the season, unless a cataclysmic injury occurs. Sorry, X, I don't see the Packers being better than 6-10 next season.

KingPK 0 Report post Posted April 25, 2006 I saw in the paper that next season, NFL Network will air four of the best games of the previous week on Tuesday and Wednesday nights in 90-minute edited versions, two per night. The games would be announced on Monday and games that originally aired in HD would still air in HD on the network. Example #234521 that the NFL has its shit together. EDIT: Here's the press release with more info -- (April 24, 2006) -- For the first time ever, NFL game broadcasts from the previous weekend will be replayed on NFL Network just days after their live airing. During the 2006 season, NFL Game Re-Airs will feature four of the top games from each weekend, rebroadcast exclusively on NFL Network the following Tuesday and Wednesday. Any game originally shot in high definition will air on NFL Network in HD. Two games will be shown each Tuesday and Wednesday night with 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. ET/PT kickoff times. This marks the first time in the 87-year history of the NFL that games from the regular season or playoffs will be shown outside their live window. "Fans have been asking us for years about encore presentations of our games," said Charles Coplin, NFL Network's vice president of programming. "For NFL Network, these rights are as significant as securing the new Thursday-Saturday primetime game package." In all, NFL Network expects to show 75 NFL games on NFL Game Re-Airs during the 2006 regular season and playoffs, culminating with Super Bowl XLI. NFL Network's slate of games in 2006 includes 52 preseason games, 31 NFL Europe League games, eight live regular-season games, plus 75 NFL Game Re-Airs. The total of 166 NFL-related games more than doubles NFL Network's output from 2005 and immediately establishes NFL Network as the place to watch the most NFL game action. NFL Game Re-Airs will play in a 90-minute fast-paced format without halftime and other elements not critical to the outcome. NFL Game Re-Airs will tell the story of the game with additional features. In order to give the games context, NFL Network will add sideline and on-field sound captured during the game and postgame press conference sound bites. Other enhancements will include exclusive shots and camera angles from NFL Films, allowing fans an inside look at game action they did not see on Sunday. This will give fans a deeper understanding of the game, the players and the coaches. For example, if NFL Game Re-Airs was featuring the Colts-Steelers AFC Divisional Playoff where Jerome Bettis fumbled late in the game, viewers would see related comments from Bettis, Bill Cowher and others immediately after the play, as well as slow-motion footage showing the play as it unfolded. NFL Network has the ability to select any NFL game for use on NFL Game Re-Airs, complete with original television announcers and cameras. Each Monday, NFL Network will announce which games will air on NFL Game Re-Airs.

Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted April 25, 2006 I agree, man...I've said it before, the NFL (and college ball most times) is the only league I can get into all season long regardless of how shitty my team is doing. If Cox offered that direct ticket deal (or whatever it's called, League Pass, whatever), I'd be on it every season.

Vampiro69 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2006 I still see the Packers taking Hawk with their pick, and I think that regardless of whether Favre was coming back that is who they want to grab.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted April 26, 2006 Yeah, I don't get that line of thinking either. Drafting A.J. Hawk and keeping Favre for at least one more year is a good thing. Here's the official report: Report: Packers QB Favre to return in 2006 April 25, 2006 BRISTOL, Connecticut (Ticker) - Should I stay or should I go now? Brett Favre apparently has answered the question. The NFL's only three-time MVP and long-time quarterback of the Green Bay Packers will return for a 16th season, ESPN.com reported Tuesday night. According to the report, Favre shared his decision with general manager Ted Thompson and new coach Mike McCarthy in a telephone conversation Tuesday morning. Favre, who had a roster bonus pushed back from March to July while he pondered his decision, has said that if he chose to play in 2006 that it would be his final season. Favre, 36, is second to Hall of Famer Dan Marino in passing yards, touchdown passes and completions. Marino is the leader with 61,361 yards followed by Favre with 53,615 and Hall of Famer John Elway with 51,475. An eight-time Pro Bowl selection, Favre has made an NFL-record 221 consecutive starts for the Packers. He never had a losing record until last season, when Green Bay went 4-12 and he led the league with 29 interceptions. But the fans at Lambeau Field did not want to see him go. After Green Bay closed a disappointing campaign with a win over Seattle on January 1, Favre left the game with 46 seconds left after throwing for 259 yards and a touchdown and received a thunderous ovation from the sellout crowd. Favre saluted the fans with a wave and was surrounded by a swarm of photographers as he ran off the field. Favre extended his NFL-record streak of seasons with at least 20 touchdown passes to 12 and increased his career total to 396. He also established a career high with 372 completions last season, surpassing his previous high of 363 in 1994. Marino, the NFL's most prolific quarterback, has 420 career TD passes and 4,967 completions. The thing is, Aaron Rogers is going to thrown into the fire. Favre is a legend, for good reason, and they're never going to hand the reigns to his rookie replacement halfway throuhg the season, unless a cataclysmic injury occurs. Sorry, X, I don't see the Packers being better than 6-10 next season. Maybe this improves them to 8-8? The way I see it, I think I'm pretty much hoping for another Mike Sherman-ish year at best, where the Packers cruise to a playoff berth by virtue of an easy schedule (seriously, take a look at it, aside from a couple tough ones, it's a cakewalk) and then get bounced in the first or second round of the playoffs by an infinitely superior team. I'm really happy Favre's returning mostly because I'll probably get a chance to watch him live for the first time when Green Bay plays at Miami in October. I was going to buy tickets for that anyways, but it's extra nice for me now. Which of course means his ironman streak will come to a crushing blow the week before (actually two weeks since Green Bay plays at Miami after a bye). 2GOLD 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2006 Who is going to block for him and who is he going to throw too? What Farve coming back really gave the Green Bay front office is an excuse. Now they can say it was Farve's indecision when the team starts to crumble and point all of the fingers right at him. Meanwhile GM Ted Thompson will be given a free pass even though he's a blazing moron.

Now they can say it was Farve's indecision when the team starts to crumble and point all of the fingers right at him. Meanwhile GM Ted Thompson will be given a free pass even though he's a blazing moron. Talk about jumping to conclusions. This is Thompson's real first offseason as GM, considering last year he was just settling into the job and Sherman was still more or less running some of the show. He prefers to build through the draft and land a big free agent when possible, but there's simply noone good left out there, unless the Pack wanted to take a chance on a guy like Charles Woodson or Lavar, both of which are major risks that'll probably end up costing too much money. On the offensive line, the tackles are set, and I guess the center would be Scott Wells, who played very well against tough defensive linemen throughout the last two years, he'd been groomed to take over the center spot like his predecessor Mike Flanagan was for Frank Winters. He'll probably do just fine, so I assume they'll probably draft a guard or two and see what they're capable of in open competition against incumbents Adrian Klemm and Will Whitticker. The receiving situation is a bit tougher, and I don't quite understand what's going to happen there. Driver is set, but they need a good receiver to balance that out if Walker does indeed decide to carry out his threat, but he pulled much of the same crap last year and still came back to play- even if as a result he got injured for the season in his first game. There's also Bubba Franks to throw to as well as Donald Lee, who played well as a #2 TE last year. But there's noone left out there to go for, receivers wise. The draft doesn't look all that great in that area either, so that probably means they'll have to wait till next year or attempt to swing a trade with someone for Walker. That's all assuming Javon really does intend to carry out his threat.

snuffbox 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2006 Here's that statement signing that Brett Favre was looking for... http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/foot...n.ap/index.html MILWAUKEE (AP) -- The Green Bay Packers made their first major splash in the free-agent market this offseason, agreeing to terms with defensive back Charles Woodson on Wednesday. Woodson's agent, Kevin Poston, said the Packers agreed to a seven-year deal for $52.7 million, including $10.5 million in the first year of the contract. Woodson's signing comes a day after Brett Favre told the team he would return to play the 2006 season. Favre previously urged the team to make a "statement" in free agency, similar to the signing of Reggie White in 1993.

At least this'll probably place Ahmad Carroll at nickelback, where he belongs. He's just not cut for being a starter, but it'll be nice to have some speed in the defensive backfield. I could deal with this, provided Woodson stays healthy.

Guest Arnold_OldSchool Report post Posted April 27, 2006 Ross Verba, who played for the Cleveland Browns and Green Bay Packers, came into the league as a noted and loud Christian missionary, talking with much passion about how he found Jesus Christ three days before he was drafted in 1997. That changed pretty quick, particularly when his wife divorced him in 2003. After that, Verba’s reported problems with gambling sent him in an entirely different direction, including once winning $500,000 in a casino and spending most of it on hosting a swimsuit party. Earlier this year, police investigated charges that a woman was drugged and raped at a party at Verba’s Cleveland home. And now he’s hanging out with Paris Hilton and Tara Reid --------- I have to follow my ex packers closer...I knew none of this Philly is supposedly working on a trade for Javon Walker. Some locals here in GB think Farve may be traded as well I'll be going to the Lambeau Field Atrium Draft party on Sat. from noon - 6. Aaron Rodgers and KGB are the featured Packers who will be there to meet and greet.
Guest Arnold_OldSchool Report post Posted April 27, 2006 Vikings are going to be stiff competetion next year. They signed a few more solid free agents and have 5 or 6 1st day draft picks. They did lose Daunte and Micheal Bennett though.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2006 Vikings are going to flop, they have no real offensive weapon. They also lost Burelson. They must draft a RB in the 1st round, if they want to hang. I think the Lions will problay take the divison this year. Espically with Mike Martz was the offensive coordinator. Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2006 In Vegas No 1 is the Bears 2. Viks 3 Pack and 4 Lions IIRC Who cares what Vegas says. The Lions IMO, has made the best improvements. They got a QB who can win them games and is a better desicion maker then Joey Harrington, in Jon Kitna. And with Mike Martz running the offense, and Donnie Henderson running the defense, they will give the Bears a run for their money for the 1st in the divison.
