Ricky's not a wife-beater, or a rapist, or any kind of serious criminal, really. Guys like Lawrence Phillips playing in the CFL make me a lot more angry than Ricky Williams coming here. The CFL doesn't have a drug policy, so he's not violating any league rules. And who is Joe Theismann to say who is and isn't "worthy" to play pro football? That said, he made a good point when he said Williams' value would be limited up here, since running backs are not emphasized in the CFL to nearly the degree they are in the NFL. Every time he says something, this is what happens: He says a remark about me that's offensive, then when he has to do one of our games he comes and apologizes and says, `I'm sorry.' So, I'm sure next year when he's doing a game he'll come up to me and say, `I'm sorry,' and it will be the same thing over again. It will probably be next year when I go back to Miami and he's doing a game with ESPN. I don't have any hard feelings against him, I understand it's his job to say things so he has to say things. I thought they'd keep him on the roster this year but not resign him, so getting a solid receiver for him is a definite plus for the Saints. Even though he didn't play much in New England, he still has more experience than some of the backup WRs like Devery Henderson and Nate Poole. Looking at the Saints' depth chart, there isn't a whole lot at wideout once you get past "Cellular" Joe Horn and Dontae Stallworth. Devery Henderson? Can't seem to wrap his head around the Saints' offense (or lack thereof), which is why he never saw the field in the 2004 regular season. Has a high average of yards per reception, but has received no more than 4 receptions in a game. Unless he impresses new coach Sean Payton in some way, he's in danger of getting cut due to the influx of new WRs. Nate Poole? Career backup in that Mecca of offense, Arizona, before coming to the Saints. Never put up solid numbers. In serious danger of being cut. Michael Lewis? The Beer Man is mainly going to be used to spell Reggie Bush at PR/KR. He's never made much of an impact at WR either. Mike Haas? Rookie out of the Pac 10. While he was good at Oregon State, there are only about three teams in the NFL with the quality of the average Pac 10 defense and he's playing on one of them. The surgery could spell the end of Faulk's career after 12 years in the NFL. But Linehan said at a news conference the 33-year-old Faulk isn't ready to call it quits. Faulk didn't attend the news conference. Faulk is expected to have the surgery on one of his knees next week, the Rams said. It was unclear which knee would be the focus of the operation. Faulk had lesser surgery on both knees earlier this year. Faulk, the 2000 NFL MVP, is ninth on the career rushing list with 12,279 yards, 34 yards behind Jim Brown. But he had a career-low 292 yards rushing last year and made only one start, in the season finale when Steven Jackson was out with a hip pointer. Faulk hasn't participated in the team's minicamps this year. Faulk has been to seven Pro Bowls, has seven 1,000-yard rushing seasons and 38 100-yard games, and was the first player in NFL history to gain 2,000 yards from scrimmage in four consecutive seasons from 1998-2001. If Bloom remains on the PUP list at the start of this season, he will not be eligible to rejoin the team until after the ninth week of the season.
