Guest JMA Report post Posted January 9, 2006 If Edge wants a major face pop on Raw, he should take Cena's title belt and smash it in the ring with a hammer, like Mr. Perfect did to Hogan's belt in the locker room in the 80s on SNME. That'd be great.

The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2006 Edge really isn't that good at anything. But if you guys are going to be obsessed over him, at least this probably won't be as flagrantly homoerotic as the welcomes y'all had for Messrs. Orton and Batista. death_by_burrito 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2006 I know my reply doesnt count cause i'm not a regular poster, but I like Edge being the champ. I feel he's paid his dues and deserves it. Even my brothers, who are total marks, hate the shit out of Cena and think Edge as being champ is better than Cena.

iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2006 I'd forgotten that there was a PPV tonight, and just glanced at the WWE forum because I was bored. Well, wow, I'm very surprised to say the least. Even when I remembered there was a PPV, I was thinking that NYR would just be another throwaway show where nothing much was accomplished. Edge winning the title was the furthest thing from my mind. As it is, this development has me (for the first time in 6 months or so) interested to see what happens on Raw. I think I'll definitely tune in for a while tomorrow night to see how Edge works out as champion. Cena was boring me to death, but Edge is fresh enough that I'll at least give him a try. Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2006 I always thought people were too hard on Edge, he has been in great matches, and is very charismatic, and espically good on the mic. I always been a fan of him since his heel Edge and Christian days. Glad to see him finally win the title, espically because it makes things fresh for the WWE. Team Angle Pusher 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2006 What they should do is have Kane/Edge at the Royal Rumble. I know that match has been done already with the whole Gene Snitsky angle and Lita turning on Kane but maybe that's why they wrestle at the Rumble because Kane SHOULD be pissed. Edge beats Kane and gains some credibility. Cena should be in the Rumble match because a lot of people will expect Cena to win. I think a Smackdown! superstar is winning the Rumble this time because Edge just isn't over enough at this point to main event Mania. Edge/RVD would be a nice second main event because we aren't used to them main eventing so it's fresh and RVD will be super over as always.
Guest JMA Report post Posted January 9, 2006 Maybe Kane can explain why he pretended to be married to Lita. That was a weird situation.

Team Angle Pusher 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2006 The Chamber match was really entertaining. Masters and Carlito didn't look out of place like I thought they would. They actually did a pretty damn good job. Carlito pulled out some surprising moves, maybe he CAN be a good wrestlers. Masters looks to have potential as well, I can see that he's learning a lot from guys like Angle and HBK. I liked how they eliminated Kane. Kane didn't do shit. I thought they would have Kane eliminate like two guys so he looks like a big threat. Then HBK eliminates Kane and Cena eliminates HBK. But they chose to give the up and comers a chance and I didn't mind that. I marked out for Edge winning. The crowd was HOT throughout the entire match, it was off the charts. Cena is basically a Heel now acting like a Face and vice versa with Angle.
humongous2002 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2006 RVD should be his opponent @ Mania since the guy will be (Like it or not) extremely over when he finally returns. Edge needs to hold onto the belt while he's being build up as RAW's top heel, meanwhile Cena could feud with Hogan.

Matt Young 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2006 Edge vs. Flair is on YouTube, but no other matches are yet available aside from torrents, which I never did figure out. pochorenella 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2006 I think I might be the first one to suggest this, but don't you guys think there's a good chance the WWE Title match @ Mania 22 will be a Triple Threat? Right now I'm thinking Edge vs. HHH vs. Cena, but of course that could change come Royal Rumble time (which I'm seeing live, BTW ) And as for Edge as Champ, I honestly think he was due,he's homegrown talent, WWE has pushed him heavily lately, and I think he's as good a choice as any at this particular time. I had the idea that HBK would win it with Vince's help a-la Rock in SurSeries, but this is a nice surprise that I don't think many people saw coming in the ECW tradition. I suggested a fatal four way a few weeks ago with Angle/Shawn/Hunter/Cena. Right now, I'd love to just see Angle take his act into a full blown face turn but not lose anything of what his character currently is. I don't think Angle has ever been this over before, the whole "Angle spent months chasing the title and for edge to just take advantage of the situation and beat a battered Edge causes Angle to snap and go after edge" idea is my favorite idea involving edge so far. WWE lost its only major sure-fire money match in Austin-Hogan, so they cant just sit back and throw stuff at the wall.
dubq 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2006 As much as I _cannot_ _stand_ Edge, I can stand him more than I can Cena. So I guess this is a very "meh" title change in my eyes. Next up, why don't they just give the title to Carlito or one of the Heartthrobs. It's essentially the same thing.
Si82 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2006 I don't know how to feel about Edge being the new WWE Champion. On one hand it's somebody new, a young talent. On the other that talent is Edge who doesn't really get to great of any kind of reaction. I'll admit I don't like Edge but he is one of the better guys on Raw right now so that, at least, makes him a decent choice for champion. However, I don't think they should have taken the belt off Cena.

10 Pounds 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2006 Hell, it's about time something different happened in WWE. It would be fine if Edge has a long run as champion and could solidify himself as a main-eventer, unlike last year where he was forgotten after his feud with Michaels. However, and maybe it's the cynical smark in me, I don't see him as more than a transitional champion. He'll probably lose it at the Rumble to HHH, who will keep it until Wrestlemania. HHH has been in the main-event of Wrestlemania (or near it) since 2000, and I don't see that trend ending this year. Tonight or next week, he'll probably do the type of promo he does after when he loses the belt on Edge ("You were good on one night but I deliver every single night"). He'll say that his win was nothing but a fluke since he didn't beat an opponent who was at a hundred percent, unlike him who went over everybody fair and square. Hope I'm wrong, but we'll see tonight. I wouldn't watch it normally......but live sex baby~! Whoo hoo, screw that porno !
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2006 My brother said it best last night with the Edge win: "Finally they did something on one of these lame duck PPVs!" The reason fewer people order the lesser shows is that no important title changes ever occur, no big angles go down for the most part. Edge to me has always been the blank slate wrestler. He's the exact image of a blonde long haired type you'd have as a Create a Wrestler on a video game. Put him in with Angle, Eddie, or Benoit and you can have very good or maybe even great match. Put him in with Albert and he's shit. Put him in with a slower guy like Regal and he's shit. I'm not saying he gets ultra carried against better opponents (maybe a little bit), but he sure as hell can't carry anything himself. Still, it was time to pull the trigger and put the belt on him. He was getting to the point of being in that dangerous "Bigger than IC title, not quite world title" level for life.
