and the people saying that Seattle shoulda shrugged it off and won anyway.....this is the fucking Super Bowl...teams execute on big plays only so many times a game...if u take away 14 points and give the Steelers 7 pts...u cant overcome a 21 pt swing in any game...especially the championship game

It's funny but anyone else find it amusing that the refs went from trying to screw the Steelers vs. the Colts in every way possible to prevent them from getting to the Super Bowl, and then once in the Super Bowl did everything to ensure that they win?

 

As far as the Seahawks go, I think Skip Bayless had it right: "Seattle is a product of the worst schedule in football, in the worst division. And they have the most intimidating home field advantage." That's pretty much it really. I see no signs that they'll be back in this game by any means, since they mostly beat a bunch of scrubs and got lucky as shit against a couple of real opponents at home (Dallas, NYG). The times where they had to play a solid team on the road, they lost (Skins, Jags).

I don't see how that photo provides any conclusive evidence one way or the other. It's one still frame that is well before the play is finished. If even the tip of the ball touches the white line, it's a TD, which in live action, it looked like it did.

 

That picture seems pretty meaningless to me.

Well, you know, they did beat the Skins later on in the playoffs when it mattered. They were also able to stop STEVE SMITH STEVE SMITH STEVE SMITH and the Carolina STEVE SMITH Panthers, a team some had picked to get to the big game. Seattle really was disrespected and overlooked all season long, and I for one think they deserved to be there. Are they going to be there again anytime soon? Not sure about that.

 

Shaun Alexander's leaving to become a free agent, Hasselbeck's on the wrong side of 30, and it's doubtful if Holmgren will keep on coaching much longer, not to mention all the NFC teams are getting better, especially the ones in the NFC South and NFC East.

Seattle plays in the worst division in football. Alexander really came up small in the postseason, so if they can get someone like Edge to replace him if he too decides to hit the FA market they can get back simply because they all but have one of the top 3 seeds locked up playing in the NFC west for 6/16 of their games. I don't think they'll make it, but it's possible thanks to their cupcake division and the fact they can conceivably approximate Alexander with another running back given their O-line.

In case you guys forget, the refs did everything but hand the game to the Colts when the Steelers played them in Rd 2.

 

Sometimes the calls go your way, sometimes they don't. Shit happens. If you're a good team, you get past it.

 

Fact is, Seattle dropped a ton of passes, missed 2 FG's and couldn't stop big plays on defense. Blame that and not a couple bad calls that happen in every game.

I don't believe in officiating bias, but this year's playoff officiating was piss poor in general. I still find it funny that people are now claiming the refs fixed the game for the Steelers, when a couple weeks ago, people (probably the same ones) were bitching about how the refs were biased AGAINST the Steelers when they played the Colts. If the refs wanted Bettis and Big Ben to get their rings so bad, why did they call back two huge plays for them in the divisional round?

 

The whole conspiracy theory thing makes for good talk, but really holds little water. This year's reffing was bad, not biased.

The conspiracy thing is weak. Why would the NFL want the Steelers to win? It's not like the Steelers were a super popular team. While the NFL has fixed games before... I doubt they did here.

Also, the problem I have, is that the Replay Ref at that game had the lowest overturn record in the league; 23%. That in itself is a clear show of bias; not to any one team, but to the officials. The Replay Ref is supposed to make informed, balanced decisions; not wipe the asses of the regular refs when they fuck up.

The Steelers are a super popular team. I've seen their fans everywhere. The image of my dad jumping around with his friends from earlier tonight is still fresh in my brain, so maybe I'm putting too much into it.

 

There's no such thing as a replay ref. That's the referee of the game, and he did overturn one call, blatantly obvious as it was. Geez.

that game was absolutely the worst ive ever seen...the Ben TD...DJ TD...Stevens getting down to the 1...thats a 21 point swing in an 11 pt game..sure Seattle coulda sucked it up and overcame it..but why?..refs need to start getting fired for games like this....I dont like either team...but fair is fair...this reminds me of Laker games when they had Shaq

 

I'm in agreement with the Ben TD clearly not being a touchdown but that drive would have still resulted in at least three points if not an easy QB sneak into the end zone on 4th. With just the field goal the game would have been 3-3 going into the half.

 

The Seattle touchdown pass in the first half was pass interference and I have no problem with that call. He stiff armed the defender pushing him off, if the defensive corner would have done that, it would have been defensive pass interference with no argument from anyone. The fact that the roles were reversed, along with a touchdown being reversed and everyone thinks it's a bad call.

 

I didn't agree with the holding call against Seattle in the second half and it's possible that Seattle would have got into the endzone to make it 17-14 but not a guarantee. It could have just been another opportunity that they couldn't take full advantage of as with their other drives during the game. It could have easily ended up a field goal and a 14-13 Pittsburgh lead.

 

Take away the Ben TD and it would have been Seattle 13-10 or Seattle 17-10 if they did score a TD on that particular drive. The Steelers would have scored another TD either leading 17-13 or a 17-17 tie. So Seattle still wouldn't have necessarily won the game.

 

I'm happy about the Pittsburgh win and the celebration here has been awesome. This city really needed this. I agree that the officiating was bad, just as it was bad in previous games and not-in-favor of Pittsburgh.

 

The bottom line is despite the bad officiating Seattle could have easily won the game had it not been for the missed field goals and the terrible coaching and time management at the end of the first half and then again on their 4th quarter drive. They couldn't capitalize and Pittsburgh created opportunities like the big Ben-Ward improv pass, the big Parker run and the gadget Randel El - Ward TD.

I've mentioned this game before. Watch the last series of this game, and tell me something wasn't up there. And note that New England was favored by 3. And the Bills defeated the Pats earlier in the season 13-10, thus giving the Pats the tiebreak by not going on the field for the 2-point conversion.

 

And it's not Bills bias, as this was the beginning of Flutiemania... thus, I was actually cheering against the Bills on a weekly basis.
