Daily Show even w/out Colbert and Carrell I still prefer over TCR. I do still enjoy it, though. Him going off the other night about Muslims not taking a joke was classic.

I find that every Daily Show correspondent tries to duplicate Carrell and Colbert, and really isn't that funny doing so.

Colbert Report is hands-down funnier than Daily Show, and anyone who says different is full of shit. "The Word" is always terrific, and I love the "better now a congressional district" segments. He runs a little short on material by the end, but when he's on, he's hilarious.

'Better Know a District' is usually pretty good, but The Word is usually hit or miss.

 

I like the shows about the same, but the Klassic Kolbert they showed on Wednesday night was one of my favourite segments they've done. 'Name one way that you're not Hitler'.

The correspondent segments on the Daily Show (like Ed Helms' New Years Resolution segment last week) are almost always the highlight of the two shows.

 

Overall, however, The Colbert Report is better at this point.

 

It could get worse with time though.

The interviews on the Daily Show are better because they don't have to conform to a gimmick like Colberts do. On the Report the interviews (both in studio and w/ congress) have the same theme because it's Colbert doing both, whereas the Daily Show has straight-man John Stewart doing studio interviews and one of his lackys in the field. The socratic irony on the Daily Show, IMO, is better than on Colbert (though when Colbert was on the DS, no one did it better). There are less limits on the daily show so they can go to more places, comedy-wise, than Colbert.

 

The Daily Show has rebounded quite well after losing several of their correspondents. Ed Helms has developed quite nicely over the past few months (the Taint bit he did a few weeks ago was sublime, esp. when he ended it with the shocker reference) and I don't think you could say he's a copy of either Stev(ph)ens. Cordy and Jones are more along those lines (Cordy being Steve, Jones being Stephen), but both are still tremendously funny (Jones lays the smarm on way more than Colbert, which is quite the accomplishment, though doesn't have the same sort of charm a lil bear does). Nate Cordry is hilarious whenever he's on and the only real fault would be Bakkedahl.

 

Of course, humour is subjective, but I tend to think Daily Show is more consistent than the Report because of their format. Don't get me wrong, the Report is often funny and when it's at its best there are few things better, but overall DS takes it for me.

Colbert Report is miles ahead of the rotting carcass of the Daily Show. Unless I missed something, and "Jon Stewart makes a funny face" is the pinnacle of political satire these days.

I watch both shows every day, and I don't think I could say I like one more than the other. They both have their on and off days.

 

I really liked the episode a few weeks ago with the tribute to the American worker, then David Cross showing up for the first time as his liberal radio host character. The first one shown in Canada was good too.

 

It's fun being "Dead to Him" as a man with a beard.

 

This is my favourite Colbert quote, as TDS' "Senior Moral Authority":

I guess I'm the only one who pretty much views both shows as equals.

 

I think Colbert is more impressive because he essentially has to maintain a character the entire time. Jon has the liberty of breaking "character" so to speak, to be more relatable, but Colbert can't.

This is my favorite show right now. I think it's the most consistently funny program right now, but I do zone out during about half of the interviews.

 

Sadly, most of the people I know would rather watch Leno than even give this a chance.

I am so glad to see that I am not the only person who watches the Colbert Report. My favorite word segment was when he said that Rosa Parks was overrated.
