Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2006 Marvin, think about how weak you look for saying "Um, yeah I'd like to see you but I gotta work at my shitty low paying job instead". To her, it's so plain to see that you work a shitty job that you need to work those hours and it tells her "yeah, I lack balls". If you blow a date off for fucking work, you simply don't deserve any sex at all.

If you blow a date off for fucking work, you simply don't deserve any sex at all. I never mentioned anything about where I work other than "I have to work this weekend, but Im off the following weekend, how about then.". And KOAB is right..and it sucks because as much as I like my job and everything, the pay sucks ass. But I think Id rather continue to work where I am and make less than stellar money as opposed to working somewhere else where Id hate my job. Thats how I was when I was working up in Annapolis at the Annapolis Yacht Club as a prep cook. That place was a hell hole and the Sous Chef was a complete asshole because the Executive Chef had a heart attack and was out for 4 months and it was his first shot at pretty much running the place on his own and he had no business doing it (an aside, he was from the Eastern Shore and went to the same Culinary School as I did, but ugh..and I just found out that he left shortly after I left..I wonder why..hmm). Combine that with living in an even crappier situation than I have now and having to put up with Downtown Annapolis traffic on a daily basis to and from work (since I worked the 8-5 shift 90% of the time)..I hated that place and even though I was making almost $4 more an hour there than I am now, you couldnt get me to go back there for $10 more an hour. And yes, this is like the 3rd time I've put work in front of a date or whatever since I've started this thread, but if you look at how those past situations worked out..Im glad I did what I did. Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2006 Give me one good reason why you shouldn't blow work off for the night? Are you going to get fired? Let me make this clear, I'm not trying to be a jerk here. Really. I just can't comprehend putting work ahead of a girl that obviously wants to spend time with you. I love my job, despite the fact it was the last thing I ever expected myself to do. I love my pay, I love the control and I love the satisfaction of seeing a customer feeling like he got his money worth (and it's often ALOT of money invested). I get paid much more then I should be at my age, but thats why not I love the job. Despite all that, I would gladly tell my boss "I'm not working today" if a girl is involved. MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2006 My boss would be the one to have to come in and cover for me since the only other person that is off this weekend is working their 2nd job. I suppose most of you wouldn't have that problem, it would just be someone else to have to cover for you, not your boss. I dont particularly want to piss him off and that would probably do it, especially since hes in the middle of moving to a new house. It wouldnt be enough to get me fired over as far as I know..but Id rather not push the issue. Oddly enough, Im like the only one in the dietary department that doesn't work a 2nd job which is why 99% of the time Im the one that gets called in to cover for everyone else..that and also because they know I will because I like getting overtime. So you simply fold. You let everyone else use you to cover for when they want to have fun or have situations like dates come up, but you won't do it yourself. You are being used by more then just Heaven but by your own peers.
Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted June 9, 2006 One of the rules of life states that you never and I mean never not show up to work if this causes another person to have to take on additional workload. Especially unkowningly. If anyone did that where I worked than it's a sign of disrespect. The harder the job is (especially if it's a job where you see people fall down one by one from exhaustion) the more necessary it is for you to show up. This is an ultimate test of charactor. Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2006 Hawk out of curiousity what do you do? I don't think it's worth risking your job for a girl either. If you're willing to give up a job that pays you thousands of dollars for pussy, then giving up a couple of bills with a hooker shouldn't be that much of a stretch. Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2006 I work for a company that designs and builds custom conveyor systems. My job is head of assembly. Essentially, I run the factory where we physically build our product. It's a really good paying job that I lucked into by virture of who I know but I earned it. Just to point out, I got a crew of 6 working for me. People with spouses and kids. My performence at my job effects them. That still doesn't mean I'll allow my job to prevent me from being with my gf unless it's crucial. I won't allow work to consume me at my age just yet. Since I know WP will say something, I never leave my crew in the lurch if I call off for the day. I never put my crew at risk when I don't show up. No one will ever have to do my job. Yes, I obviously get paid regardless if im there or not. Marvin has said people used him so they can do other things, taking advantage of him really. That's another weakness for him and I'm trying to tell him that he needs to start pushing back. He has an opportunity for something he says he wants but keeps walking away from and he's doing the same act once again using work as an excuse.
Guest Felonies! Report post Posted June 9, 2006 Yeah, Marvin, you can't be a doormat. Trust me on this one: I've always been that kind of guy that's all too willing to cover for other people and all that jazz. It wears a person down, and I've tried to get most of that out of my system. Look. You've done a commendable job of being the go-to guy when other people skip out or can't do their jobs. Assuming that your employer is a human being, he will recognize your valuable contributions and willingness to go above and beyond. You've probably amassed so much personal capital at this point, so to speak, that to take just ONE day of to see a movie with a girl should be accepted, if not encouraged, by your boss. He's moving? Tough shit. It's ONE day. You've earned it. That's all we can tell you. You want advice, nothing is ever simple for you, and somewhere amidst Choken-Pegasus, you've gotten some good advice. Now you have a perfect opportunity to put the wheels in motion here, and you're shuffling your feet and saying "nope, I gots work." Knock that learned helplessness shit off and miss work. Now someone shut this awful thread. (do they have farms up there in Milwaukee?) Of course they do. What kind of question is that? Anyway, Kenseth is from Cambridge, I think, which is actually closer to Madison than Milwaukee. Cute town. Drove through it coming home from the Dells. iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2006 I'm sure glad I don't work a real job any more. Being beholden to the same place that I don't even pick for 40 hours a week would suck. I still work about 30 hours a week, but it can be at my computer or at multiple casinos, and it's whatever time I pick. God, I'm really glad I decided to become a poker player. Oh, and the money's a big plus too. I make about $30/hr playing live and about $100/hr on the internet.

iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2006 Not really. The similarities to my own life kind of scare me sometimes. It's not like of never kissed a girl or anything, but my social life's pretty slow right now, and as a 20 year old virgin, I do feel a little stunted sometimes. WP's stories are at least out there enough that I can kind of laugh to myself, but Marvin's struggles sound just a wee bit too familiar. At least I'm not bald and ugly though.
EricMM 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2006 Marvin's problems, directly, have little to do with his baldness / "ugly" or whatever. He's afraid, terrified of trying. He doesn't know what it might be like to kiss a girl, what it might be like to have to take her top off, what it would be like to have to get naked in front of her, what it would be like to get rejected, should that happen. By doing nothing he risks absolutely nothing. Absolutely. And its safe and easy. His problem is: he's upset because he's not had any intimate contact with the opposite gender. And yet he's more afraid than upset.
