Maybe Raw will announce that they will run a bracket as well and the winners of each bracket will face each other for a title shot at Sumerslam or Survior Series.

It makes sense, RAW took HIAC, so Long takes another staple.

They really should have made this a sixteen man bracket with qualifyers , there is plently of time to do that and still set to JD.

SD uses the HIAC too

Gah, I meant EC. Why did I say HIAC?

I don't know... I don't think that bracket is so bad. There are plenty of good workers represented. Lashley/Henry will probably be a stinker, but other than that the matches should be pretty decent, IMO. Btw, are all these matches going to take place on one PPV, or just the finals?

Nevermind...I checked the Smackdown results and noticed the matches start next week.

It'll probably happen on TV. Even the finals, unless Angle jobs to Booker in the semi's which I don't expect.

I could see a Lashley/Benoit semi-final where Lashley pulls an upset. Either that, or the Lashley/Finlay feud continues with Finlay costing Lashley the match against Benoit. That would probably make more sense, as they could then do Lashley/Finlay at the PPV in a grudge match of some kind.

Have they even said if the winner gets anything other than the "King Of The Ring" name?

I'm not sure where they're going with this. From the vbuild Long gave, it sounds like they're building it up as something a young guy wins to move up to the next level, so that might put Angle, Benoit and Benoit out of the picture.

I think Lashley may win it.

Which means Angle is probably going to have to job, which means I'm expecting either Booker cheats like crazy to beat Angle in the semi's to get squashed by Lashley.

I wish they would've put in Burchill instead of Henry.

I think this HAS to culminate on free tv, because 4 of those guys have other angles going on leading to the ppv, and one won't be around at that time.

It's such a dumb idea to make KOTR a Smackdown only PPV. If they really want to go back to the event's glory days, they would make it interpromotional. I really have low expectations for it.

I was really excited. It's a shame.

"A WWE tradition for 15 years, the King of the Ring tournament was put on the shelf after the 2002 edition. After four years of dormancy, SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long announced this past Friday night that he was bringing the tradition back.

From 1985-1991, the tournament was held every year at a non-televised WWE event in the Northeast. The first King of the Ring tournament was held in July 1985, with Magnificent Muraco defeating The Iron Sheik in the finals to become the first winner. In following years, such Superstars as Randy Savage, Harley Race, Ted DiBiase and Tito Santana would go on to win the tournament."

Shockingly they mentioned the non-televised years.

I guess it would be more correct to say Billy Gunn Tito'ed his KotR win.

I don't expect them to do the full tournament in one night, though.

Yeah, there's no denying there's a lot of potential for good matches in the tournament.

Angle/Orton, Benoit/Finlay are guaranteed, and Finlay/Lashley, Booker/Benoit, and Angle/Benoit are all possible matches. It'll be fun and give us some good tv matchups, if nothing else.

I found it funny that when Teddy Long announced the KOTR to everyone in the back, he mentioned all the great former KOTR winners... Austin, HHH, Bret, Edge, but for some reason, he left out Angle, who was standing two feet away.

What the hell is with all these tournys? How many of them have we had since the build to NYR? I'm surprised they a)haven't had KOTR qualifiers and b)haven't announced that the winner gets a shot at the WHT. And 8 guys? Come on, they could've made a little bit more interesting, and capitalized on the March Madness, widened the brackets, put someone like noble in and let him go to the finals or something. I just don't know anymore with the WWE. These tournys and qualifying matches are becoming overdone.

Not to mention you have two main eventers in one bracket, and two mid carders in the next bracket.

It makes for simpler booking and builds up the importance of the match that results. Even if it becomes less effective over time, it'll still build the match somewhat while at the same time giving an easy explanation for why the two guys are wrestling each other. I'd rather have qualifying matches than the writers feeling the need to waste a backstage segment to explain why Upper Midcarder A is angry at Upper Midcarder B.
