Guest Queen Leelee Report post Posted May 1, 2007 Does anyone really care about Bonds breaking the record? I'm nothing but apathetic about it. I assume most feel the same way. Then again, I'm only watching this SF highlight to see how my 4th favorite player, Matthew Holliday done. So, I'm not the majority.
Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2007 Most do and ESPN even openly admits to it but I guess they figure it's still historic and should be covered. It'd be great if they ignore it but at least for the most part, they admit it's hollow and are already hoping A-Rod can sustain and become the story of the year by taking out Bonds other record. USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2007 I actually care about Bonds breaking the record. Steroids or not, you don't hit 700+ without skill involved.
MFer 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2007 Anyone care to take an educated guess on Bonds' numbers without 'roids for his career? (assuming he used them of course)
Guest Richard McBeef Report post Posted May 1, 2007 I came up with 662.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2007 Between 550 & 600.
Guest Queen Leelee Report post Posted May 1, 2007 I'd estimate 620. Cut 2001 in half. The rest of 2000-2004 by a third. And account for about another half-season of missed games due to injury. A-God is still likely not to break the record. He turns 32 in July, and that period of decline inches ever closer. Even if he averages 45 HRs per season, he wouldn't break the record until he's 38. It really depends if Alex will still be playing into his 40s, just to break the record. Which I doubt, because he's a happy family man, and not a pathetic ego freak like some others. Guest Richard McBeef Report post Posted May 1, 2007 Next year is when he declines, don't you acknowledge that?
RepoMan 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2007 I'm rooting for Bonds out of spite for of the media and Selig. They were happy to look the other way when McGwire and Sosa smiled for a camera, but b/c Bond isn't nice to the media they finally figured out somethings up to vilify the guy. Guest Richard McBeef Report post Posted May 2, 2007 Don't be dumb. Don't "spite Selig." It's hardly as if it took a microscope to find out this guy was sticking needles in his ass to counteract his natural decline.
Guest Queen Leelee Report post Posted May 2, 2007 They've gone after McGwire pretty hard as well. The guy's basically a recluse now because of this.

Guest Tzar Lysergic Report post Posted May 2, 2007 Man, if I were a major league pitcher facing Bonds at bat to tie or break the record, I'd plunk him as hard as possible. Instant infamy.

Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2007 It'd rule if Bonds' shoulder muscle exploded as he was going for the first punch.

EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2007 In retrospect, that was pretty stupid on Ryan's part. He could've easily busted a knuckle on his pitching hand.
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2007 Nolan Ryan was a tough S.O.B. He would've pitched through it.
Slayer 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2007 In that first one it looked like Ryan tried the same manuever with Dave Winfield, albeit not quite as successful And yes, all scenarios stemming from an intentional HBP on Bonds as he's right on the record would be awesome

Timmy8271 0 Report post Posted May 3, 2007 I've probably said this before but here it goes: I was watching ATH today and I come to conclusion that Michael Smith is the best one on that show. I can't stand him on NFL Live but on ATH, he's pretty good and funny. Finally, Something good to come out of the Boston Media.
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted May 3, 2007 I'll take him over Michael Holly and Jackie McMullin anyday (as far as Boston area folks go)
Guest Queen Leelee Report post Posted May 3, 2007 When you're up against Paige and Mariotti, razazteca would look good. But, Michael Smith is cute, so I'm all for supporting him.
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted May 3, 2007 the perfect ATH show would be JA Adande, Kevin Blackinstone, Tim Cowlishaw and Michael Smith...now I'm not saying that because 3/4 of the panelwould be black, I'm saying that because they're usually the only guys on the show that don't have their heads up their asses. I guess Bob Ryan does pretty well in his appearances, also. now that's NOT a slight against Woody...that dude is hilarious, especially when he's not trying to win. USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted May 3, 2007 I dunno. Bob Ryan looks like he is lost every time I see him on the show.
