Garth Posted April 21, 2006 Report Posted April 21, 2006 Ideally for the summer holidays I want to have a sort of multiplayer-internet type game. I've played counterstrike before and I was thinking about maybe getting myself set up for that again. However, I'm also thinking I'd like something with a bit more depth to it, whats the deal with these massively multiplayer type games? I've also heard good things about City of Heros/Villans so maybe something like that, I'm really not sure. So, I was hoping some of you guys could maybe describe some of your favourites if you play. Or if you don't if you've heard about anything exceptional pass on some information. Much appreciated.
Guest The Satanic Angel Posted April 21, 2006 Report Posted April 21, 2006 Diablo II LOD - played it, loved it. Gameplay varies online by who you play with. Baldur's Gate - playing it, love it. Don't know about multiplayer, haven't tried it. Age of Mythology - played it, loved it. Gameplay varies online by who you play with. Morrowind - played it once, wasn't thrilled. Don't know about multiplayer, didn't try it. Game is in original box (used once) if you want to buy it from me.
Just John Posted April 22, 2006 Report Posted April 22, 2006 Age of Empires 2 (preferrably with the expansion)
Guest Coffey Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 World of Warcraft. You'll be entertained for at least a month. What more can you ask from a game?

However, I'm also thinking I'd like something with a bit more depth to it, whats the deal with these massively multiplayer type games? If you're looking for an FPS in the mold of Counter-Strike, but with more depth and a larger scope, you might want to try something like Battlefield 2.

Or, if you're a more of a nerd, there's always Battlefront 2

But, you'd better have quite the rig or you won't be able to really run it.
Hawkius Maximus Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 Maybe since I've only ever played one commercial MMORPG (Ultima), it explains why I'm so apathetic towards them. I don't get why you'd pay twenty bucks a month when you can go get Conquer ONline, or Knights Online for free, which while being reduced forms of the same style, are still decent, and you get all the things that come with a MMORPG for free. Hell, even Guild Wars is free per month. That seems much more logical then paying enough per month for an entirely different game.
Open the Muggy Gate Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 I never got a chance to play Morrowind when it first came out, but I just got it the other day. So far, pretty damn addicting game. Worth a buy, pretty cheap these days.
Guest Vitamin X Posted April 29, 2006 Report Posted April 29, 2006 I usually use the PC for all my simulation/strategy needs, since consoles lack them big time. Age of Empires falls under this category, but I'm a huge Sid Meier's Civilization addict. Also needs a good setup (particularly a good video card and plenty of RAM) to run well.
Garth Posted April 30, 2006 Author Report Posted April 30, 2006 I've always liked games like Civilization, I remember playing I think Civilization 2 way back when. I might be mistaken though. I'll probably look into that definatly as well as some of the other suggestions posted so far. Is there anything out at the second similar to the Monkey Island series, the point and click adventure is where my heart lies gaming wise. It seems like this genre has kind of fallen off the face of the earth. Would love something similar to play though. Thank you for all the suggestions so fa, keep 'em coming though.
Garth Posted June 23, 2007 Author Report Posted June 23, 2007 Bumping this, finally gotten around to setting myself up with WOW. After much debating with my housemate who is already a WOW widow as her boyfriend is pretty much addicted to it, I got myself a trial account. I enjoyed it enough that I've now gone out and bought a copy now. Pretty enjoyable and made all the better due to about 6 of my friends being members as well.
theintensifier Posted June 25, 2007 Report Posted June 25, 2007 Dungeon Seige I and II Star Wars: Jedi Outcast Jedi Knight II - Make sure to find the code for realistic saber combat
muzz Posted June 27, 2007 Report Posted June 27, 2007 Day of Defeat, another Halflife mod. Try Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, made by Lucasarts, same awesome point and click action as MI.
