Jacque Jones is not only getting hassled by the bleacher fans, but also Pat and Ron: with Mike Jacobs heading home, Jones looks ready to throw home, hesitates for several seconds, and makes a late throw to third, which neither of them were happy about. Not even May and the guy's on borrowed time.

 

Good thing he's inked through 2008! He's coming off as the kind of guy who can't handle the pressures of performing in the big city.

I wouldn't hold your breath. Even though he put up good numbers in the minors he was never a highly regarded prospect. He was red hot his first couple of months after being called up last year but he tailed off as the season wore on and had a terrible September. I fear that he's already been figured out by big league pitchers and if he doesn't start making adjustments he won't have much of a future. If he continues to struggle this badly, along with most of the rest of the line-up, they'll be feeling the pressure to call up Daric Barton ahead of schedule.

Well, sounded like he had a good game today with a homer and a double that went to the wall. I haven't dropped him from any of my teams yet, so he's been riding the pine most days, but maybe I'll be able to play him with some confidence soon.

It's been good for at least three years. The AL "Comedy" Central is the one that had been lagging for some time.

Delmon Young - universally recognized as the best prospect in all of baseball and probably the best and most hyped since Griffey/A-Rod was ejected from a AAA game this evening.

 

That's not the news. The news is that after....he THREW HIS BAT at the umpire...striking him in the shoulder/midsection. Holy shit.

 

Holy shit. People have been paying like...thousands of dollars for his rookie cards. This isn't going to help.

It's not really necessary to mention Bonds' home run, since the clip of him hitting it will be played approximately seventeen thousand times over the next few days.

 

Despite the nonsense in the bottom of the ninth, I really enjoyed the Mets game today and am very happy that they took two out of three in San Fransisco. Endy Chavez with a multi-hit game? That's always a good sign. Hoping that Bannister's injury isn't too serious, though. The bullpen's been stretched kinda thin lately as it is; taking Heilman out of it to be a fifth starter wouldn't help matters any.

 

Road trip's been good so far. Now, if the Mets can just win a couple games in Atlanta, they'll be set.

As for Delmon Young, I wonder how much of this comes out of dealing with the replacement umpires. There is NO excuse for Young's actions, but there's certainly been some problems in the minors this season.

I mentioned Bonds' HR, but I'm glad to see the Mets rebounded from that horrid bottom of the 9th and won the game. I was certain they'd choked it away, so while Wright and Wagner's confidence might have taken a hit, at least we left San Fran with a series win. If we can take 2 of 3 from the Braves I'll be thrilled.

Yankees so far tonight have 11 walks, a couple of hits and only 2 runs in 7 2/3 innings.

Jays get a nice win tonight. Hopefully this is the start of them getting on a roll, since pretty much everyone in the order is hitting well, aside from Hill and Adams (and Hillenbrand a bit, but he seems to be heating up the last few days). The pitching should hold up even without Burnett, Towers is the only one who hasn't had at least one nice start yet and hopefully he gets it going soon, since he was the most consistent starter last season.

One more note on the Young incident. Remember that in most cases, these umps are ill-prepared to handle on-field disputes. Most of them come from environments where managers are usually not permitted to argue calls.

Mo gave up a hit to Carl Crawford and a sac fly to Ty FREAKING WIgginton and Wagner gave up a home run to one of the best HR hitters in history. At least the Mets can come and did come back.
