AmericanDragon 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2006 Here's his fight against Stiebling at 205lbs. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=10...q=riggs&pl=true He lost but he keeps that same power and GNP at 185lbs so that seems like the best weight class for him. He looked weak at 170lbs. Swick just looks weak in general. edit: Who else thinks the fight should have been stopped near the end of RD1? Riggs was killing Stiebling. Hell he even did a Mongolian Chop. This is exactly what's going to happen to Swick except Swick will get knocked out. Every time Swick has been hit his head pops back. Instead of tucking his chin in during striking exchanges, Swick leans back a little leaving his chin exposed. I just don't think he has the chin to beat Riggs. AmericanDragon 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2006 Nah, Steibling was protecting himself well enough that there was no reason to call that fight at all. ...He didn't even block one shot. I'm not saying Stiebling was out or anything for even a second, but he was just getting hit over and over. Hell even Gideon Ray blocked some of Swick's punches after getting knocked out. Stiebling didn't even try to grab Riggs' wrists or even cover his own face. He just had both his arms stretched straight out which really had no effect since Riggs was still able to land hooks, straights, and elbows. I really don't know what you're talking about with that post.
I like Forums 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2006 What I meant was that, even though the blows were landing, he was calm and responding. No need to stop the fight because the blows were landing. He weathered them and worked his way to a submission victory.

Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted May 6, 2006 Riggs is a fucking deuchebag, but if Swick doesn't defend the takedown and keep his chin down, he's getting cracked. I think Swick has improved his game since the TUF. He beat some decent comp pretty fast. Riggs is a big guy, but that doesn't mean shit really. Matt Hughes pretty much man handled. Swick submission skills are underrated also.
Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted May 6, 2006 Even if Riggs can't handle Swick's heat standing (or at least catch his stuck out chin), he has enough wrestling ability and size to take it to the ground and rain down elbows. Swick has decent submissions, but nothing that's indicated he'll submit Riggs easily.

Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2006 --Ticketmaster has 30% off all tickets for the 5/27 UFC show at the Staples Center, which is an update that tickets are not selling well. For more info you can go to www.ticketmaster.com/channe_partner/?brand=tmdeal Looks like, at least locally, this UFC isn't going to draw that well.
Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2006 Does that mean that there are 30% of tickets left or they're selling them 30% off the price? Hmm, which LHW with a big head was on 59 but is not on 60? While Dana won't want to admit it now, Tito IS a draw and he deserves every last penny he gets. I refuse to believe that tickets sold out in three days because people were looking forward to seeing Tim Sylvia try to recapture past glory.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2006 "Draw that well" is pretty relative. But they definitely overestimated the market and they over-price as it is.
Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2006 Does that mean that there are 30% of tickets left or they're selling them 30% off the price? From the wording, that's all tickets being sold for 30% off. "Draw that well" is pretty relative. True, but while the number on its own will probably be very good, it does seem like it will fall well below what you know UFC will have been hoping for.
Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2006 I was gonna say, it will still be sold out eventually and all, but Rudo is right. Just because it didn't move as fast as the last one doesn't mean it's a failure. In fact, I think the last one was the first time they sold out in a matter of days. Normally it takes a few weeks. I think they are being a little too worrisome. I also have to point out that "off" might be a typo, and there might be 30% left.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2006 ****** PLEASE NOTE: The $100.00 and $50.00 price levels have SOLD OUT! ****** - ticketmaster LOGE LEVEL 100'S US $600.00 - US $1,000.00 FLOOR SEATING US $800.00 - US $1,000.00 PREMIER LEVEL US $400.00 - US $800.00 LOGE LEVEL 200'S US $400.00 CONCOURSE LEVEL 300'S US $200.00 So the 30% off would be on the above tickets. And again, the UFC prices at a premium, and a huge one at that, so 30% off their $1000 tickets is still $700. While lowering the price does say that they aren't moving what they _want_, it is different from what they _expect_ and what is still considered "good drawing" or "selling well", which I think is Dave jumping the gun more than anything. The first show was inflated by scalpers buying up lots of tickets as well as their first show in Cali, so this show will reflect a more realistic view of what the UFC can draw in Cali. The UFC will still come out of this show rolling in dough, but they will have to negotiate their ticket prices - and since they price so high, they have some room to find out the highest price the market is willing to accept - that's pure economics. Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2006 I also have to point out that "off" might be a typo, and there might be 30% left. If it was 30% of all tickets, the line would have said Ticketmaster has a third of all tickets. Use of the percentage indicates a price cut.
starvenger 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2006 This is what will happen to Swick. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTZxAJEJgSA Ye Gods, the phrase "he's long" has made it to MMA... "Draw that well" is pretty relative. But they definitely overestimated the market and they over-price as it is. Don't forget that they don't have as many casinos buying tickets in order to comp the whales, too. The UFC will still come out of this show rolling in dough, but they will have to negotiate their ticket prices - and since they price so high, they have some room to find out the highest price the market is willing to accept - that's pure economics. Pretty much. Putting on an arena show is still a foreign concept for the "new" UFC, so it's gonna take some time for them to get things right. Good thing they pay most of the undercard fighters 3-low 5 figures...
Adam 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2006 Well I'm not surprised, I never really thought Hughes was a draw at all. Think about it: -59 was headlined by Tito, who is one of those guys people either love to watch, or love to watch get beaten; and Forrest, who is becoming a draw because of his dogged attitude and endearing personality. - 58 was headlined by Rich Franklin, who much like Forrest is getting over because of the whole 'good quality guy who can throw bombs' thing, as well as GSP, the most exciting and one of the most popular fighters around. - 57 was headlined by the biggest fight in UFC History. - 56 had both Franklin and Hughes title matches. Matt Hughes just is not a draw at all, and no matter how many old UFC fights they show, people are not going to care about Royce as much as they care about any of the top fighters in the UFC today. That might be criminal, but its true.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2006 Matt Hughes is a draw. I bet you Hughes/GSP 2, and Hughes/Penn 2 when they happen will do some of UFC biggest numbers ever. I think the majority of UFC fans just think Gracie doesn't have anything left in the tank, and is gonna get killed. So they won't bother watching. That and Gracie and Hughes are not the most liked MMA fighters. So it's basically Heel Vs. Heel.
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2006 I don't think that Hughes isn't a draw but when GSP/Hughes II and Penn/Hughes II happen Matt will have nothing to do with why they drew so well.

RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2006 Saying someone "isn't a draw at all" with no knowledge of what the shows end ticket sales are is ridiculous. What if Hughes/Gracie is in the top 5 drawing cards in UFC history? What if it's one of the biggest of the year? Both of which are very likely given the UFCs history and their current ticket prices. Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2006 I don't think that Hughes isn't a draw but when GSP/Hughes II and Penn/Hughes II happen Matt will have nothing to do with why they drew so well. So your basically saying GSP or BJ Penn will draw just as well, fighting Diego Sanchez? To say Matt Hughes will have nothing to do why they draw so well is just stupid. He's the Welterweight Champion for fuck sakes, he's going to draw no matter what. It's not like he's some robot with no charisma. Matt Hughes is a very charismatic fighter, and is one of the most recognized fighters in MMA right now.
