Anya 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2006 Anya: TTT Two? Well supposedly it's actually called Tekken 6 so I would think it would be totally new. I was just wondering if the footage shown was really just taken from DR as sort of a place holder. But I'd have to see it. I just saw some screens of it. Jin has a new shirt but Lili looks exactly like she does in DR. So it must be very early.
Invictus 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2006 Strangely enough, gametrailers.com has almost all of the games shown at the Sony conference in individual trailers except for Tekken 6...not really sure why.
Anya 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2006 The screens made it look horrible. Like worse than T5. It looks like it has to be some kind of early place holder thing. I don't know why they would want to show that.
Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2006 The Revolution WILL be ganked, it appears. I think Sony is torn a new one this time. Their product strategy reeks of arrogance. Nothing is going to sell a $600 to anyone but hard-cores (remember the 3D0?) including Japanese developers. Developers are more excited about Wii and less excited about PS3 and have been holding their nose while dealing with Sony for a long time. This will be a huge failure for at least 2 years. I don't know what kind of alternate reality people who think it will "dominate" is. They're not even SERIOUSLY launching this year, because the worldwide launch means there won't be enough to cover demand in anywhere so you might as well consider them only getting serious next year. And even if you do insist that their launch date is their launch date, even though it's meaningless, they're STILL last to launch and have to convince people with one or maybe two next-gen systems that they need one more. Bullshit. Nobody is that gullible.
Invictus 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2006 At the very least, the awkward silence in the audience throughout the conference, especially after the controller reveal and the price-point reveal, provided entertainment. And I didn't have to drop 600 bones to get it. Sony IS leading the way for entertainment after all!
SilverPhoenix 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2006 You do realize that in some conference room, somewhere.....MS and Nintendo are making last minute changes to their respective presentations. I wouldn't be surprised if MS isn't trying to get clearance to lower the price on the 360.
KingPK 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2006 Microsoft will probably stick it to Sony by dropping the 360's price in late October instead of rushing a price drop just to stick it to them now. They'll probably just play up that their premium package is $200 less than PS3's package and add "though that difference might be more once it launches" as a tease. The MGS4 trailer was pretty cool, though. Here's Microsoft's reaction: IGN spoke over the phone with Shane Kim, Microsoft Game Studios general manager, and Christ Satchell, general manager of Microsoft's game developer group. "From a gamer's perspective, I'm pretty disappointed in Sony's lack of innovation," said Satchell. "I mean, they didn't deliver anything terribly new, and at the cost of $600, $200 more than our system, it's hard to get excited about it. The 'new' controller was even disappointing. It's basically the same design. It doesn't seem good for consumers, just good for Sony." When asked if Microsoft would lower the price to the Xbox 360's two systems, as an online rumor suggested, Kim said that Microsoft did not comment on rumors and speculation. But he did explain why Microsoft's package was more appealing. "Our top-priced premium system is $200 cheaper than theirs. And when you look at the whole package, our innovative online service, our price structure, the high quality of games, and the leadership we have provided, it's really hard justifying the price difference. We're in a real sweet spot with our pricing tier. We're really confident about where we are pricing-wise." When asked whether Microsoft felt Sony could deliver 6 million units by March 2007, Kim offered this opinion. "We can't speculate on Sony's production capabilities. We're not experts on that. But as you know, getting six million units on the market place by March 2007 is a very challenging task. Based on what we know about launching a sophisticated system with many complicated parts, it's going to be very challenging. "By June 2006, we project we'll meet our goal of having shipped 5 to 5.5 million Xbox 360s. On the subject of new content and announcements, you'll hear about the great new stuff we have at our conference tomorrow." On the subject of online service, Satchell explained: "They provided no real commitment to actually delivering on their online service. They provided no innovation and leadership in that respect. They gave little time and effort to their online space." Kim added, "We've sunk many years of investment into Xbox Live, and we have a lot of innovation there." On the subject of Sony's potential medium superiority with Blue Ray technology, Satchell commented: "I think customers will want the best games and the best services. And the differences between 1080i and 1080p are miniscule; the differences are too hard to determine for most consumers; 1080p is a niche market. The sweet spot is 720p. But you know what? the real question is will your TV be able to run 1080p?"
Invictus 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2006 The MGS4 trailer was really cool, they actually made Raiden -- RAIDEN-- seem like a pretty compelling character. It was the one thing that made me consider getting a PS3, even after the price announcment and everything else. But $600 bucks to play MGS4 and FFXIII (let's face it, Heavenly Sword is basically God of War on steroids, with a female lead) isn't going to fly. I avoided the Xbox all last generation because it had no real interesting software that made me want to pay the money, and I guess this generation it will be the PS3 in that situation. BUTT 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2006 Man, this is exciting. Nintendo's going to unveil something real big tomorrow, I just know it. What time is their conference?
Invictus 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2006 Tomorrow morning at 9:30 AM PDT. According to Gamespot, approximately 9 hours and 45 minutes away.
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2006 Whatever. Nintendo and Microsoft can't go 20 seconds without making ridiculous claims either. Kutaragi, Reggie, Moore, Itagaki and almost everyone else in the industry is crazy and nobody takes them seriously. If Wii is really 250 I think it'd be as dumb as the 600 dollar PS3. Some people are saying that it will end up being $199 like every other console nintendo has put out, but I think theres an exception to be had here. My only problem at all with the W!! is theres no way Im gonna be able to use the online functions on my slow ass dialup..but whatever. I've heard of people using the Nintendongle (USB thingy that creates wireless signal) with 56k for their DS. Not sure how well it works though. Yeah, but even so, my connection is too slow (21.0 kbps on a good day) to do anything more than browse the web like I do now. And I dont see Nintendo unveiling any big surprises tomorrow, but actually showing the W!! up and running will be the big thing.
BUTT 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2006 Hmmm.....well the new Tony Hawk game for Wii doesn't look so great. I'm not giving up! I have faith in Nintendo. They'll show something amazing tomorrow.

Big McLargeHuge 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2006 Gamespot. I watched the Sony press conference today via them for free. Should be no different with Nintendo, I hope.
devo 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2006 What I'm really interested in is how Japanese consumers will react to these prices. The 20 GB model is the approximate equivalent of $590, and who knows what Open Price means for the 60 GB model. They could be looking at 70,000 yen or more for the full PS3 experience. Anya 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2006 Oh god I saw the actual trailer for Tekken 6 and it looks horrible. The graphics look like Tekken 4. What is going on with Namco? There is no way that is actually Tekken 6. Lili is straight out of DR, it HAS to be something they just randomly threw together. 2001 graphics and insane price aside I am overall happy. I wasn't asking for much. Standard dual shock controller design + Lili on PS3. Good enough for me!
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2006 From the stuff I've seen from E3 2005 and E3 2006, I'm not interested in any of the next gen systems. I thought something would come that would WOW me and so far I've been hit with another year of, "oh ok, is that it?" 500 to 600 dollars for a PS3 console that will be filled with bugs and with games that will probably be 60 to 70 dollars? Thanks but no thanks. It's the same reason I'm not buying the 360, the price is still insane for the games that barely look better than the XBox. Nintendo has a wide open door with me because Sony and Microsoft have both failed miserably to make me buy a system. Nintendo better offer something more than Zelda and Mario though cause I haven't given a damn about them since the 80s
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2006 The funniest part is that, Sony can crow about how the "next gen" hasn't started without them, but everyone knows that the PS3 is still in the same ballpark power-wise as the 360. MS needs to get off their ass and demonstrate, though. I'll pass on a PS3 for a few years, I think.
EricMM 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2006 If Nintendo can get a stellar RPG... Shit, just another Paper Mario... I got NO love for this Sony news, none at all.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2006 Sony will supposedly have real, playable games running on final development kits on Wednesday. So they'd best have a huge surprise available then. This "it's realtime, seriously!" garbage isn't flying. I'm glad to see a lot of people have smartened up about it this time.
devo 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2006 I love how they had a little ammunation display in the bottom-right corner of the screen during that Eight Days video, as though that's all it would take to convince someone that it was gameplay footage.
ragingfear79 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2006 Man, I am not impressed with the PS3 at all so far. Metal Gear looks pretty and so does Warhawk and FFXIII but i will not dish out 600 bucks just for three games i want to play so far. Im glad they changed the controler but they couldve been a bit more original with the actual design. I have faith in Nintendo also, I really hope they can deliver... AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2006 I honestly don't expect that big a jump in graphics. There's been very few big-profile releases this gen that I've had major gripes about graphically. Okay, clipping is ugly and annoying, but TUS who still have that (I'm looking at you Yukes) may still half-ass it. The biggest promise of this gen is smarter and more sophisticated AI, as well as the ability to more worlds and more enemies in real time. PS3 will still be okay in Japan, but 360's going to take a big bite out of them this gen (and Wii is still an unproven wild card). Right now Sony seems to have its penis flapping in the wind, though. So what was that "4D" thing about, anyway?
Mecha Mummy 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2006 Personally speaking, all the Sony conference did was confirm to me that I will be buying a Wii first. $500 - $600 is way too much for me.
