I heard Jeff Conine is the name being brought up most for the Yankees to aquire. Makes sense too as he wouldn't cost much to aquire, can play LF and then when Sheffield comes back he can play some first base and allow Giambi to DH.

Given what they have offensively at their other positions, they should just go in-house with their replacements. Between Bernie, Cabrera, Cairo, Giambi, Pena and Crosby, they should be able to work out a 1B, DH, OF solution. It's not going to set the world on fire, but could get them by for a month or two.

Aaron Rowand is now on the DL thanks to a broken nose and fractured eye socket. I don't think a catch that wins one game is worth missing at least 15 days, but fortunately I'm not Aaron Rowand.

Well, I'm sure he wasn't running after the ball thinking "I'm gonna break my nose here, but what the hell?"

Obviously, but I also think he realized at some point that he was going to hit the wall, and hit it with great force. Considering he'd made the complaint about the wall not being padded enough, that's reason enough for most major leaguers to just let that one drop. It was only the first inning, and it is still only mid-May. I applaud his reckless abandon/team first mentality, but most of the guys who do that end up on the DL for substantial periods of time.

Apparently the Phillies are down on Abreu and were said to be willing to ship him off for two marginal prospects, no mention of Wang, Cano or that Hughes kid. It's a fucking joke that the Yankees can just absorb everyone else's bad contracts and ship 'em a bag of balls and some bats in return.

Why do so many people hate Abreu? If he's dealt for two MARGINAL prospects, I'll break something. It will show there's no justice in the world that he can be traded for that and Jacque Jones can get a three-year deal for $16 million.

The only way it could conceivably make sense is to turn around and trade for Zito. But trading Abreu and some quality prospects (what it would take to get Zito) for Zito and the marginal prospects would be idiotic without an extension. And at that point you are talking about too many factors (contingent deals, is Zito open to an extension in Philly?) to make it a safe move.

I don't think they could do anything now that Rowand is hurt unless they were absolutely blown away. If Victorino could fill in for Abreu, then that would work. But if they move Abreu, their outfield would consist of Burrell, Victorino, Dellucci, not really what a streaking team closing in on the division leader needs.

Lord, I'm so sick of the sac bunt. By some act of God, Neifi gets on to leadoff the inning. Naturally, this means that Cedeno, who singled in the first, should give himself up to move the runner to second! Not surprisingly, the Cubs didn't score.

Angel Guzman with another bad outing. Almost 90 pitches through three and five more walks.

Dear God the Yankees better not make any stupid fucking trades. Jeff Conine? Are you kidding me. I much rather see the Yankees play Melky and Kevin Thompson and see what they have before they trade for some 40 year old has been or Bobby Abreu.

What's your basis for not wanting Abreu? Besides brain damage?

Because I want to see the Yankees give Melky Cabrera and Kevin Thompson a chance. I much rather see some rookies get a chance who both have had great springs than see them get traded away to a team for a player that I dont want.

The Yankees have two prospects?

The Abreu deal isn't happening. This is the case of a sportswriter thinking for a half hour, coming up with an idea and calling it a "trade possibility." The Phillies shopped Abreu to see if they could land a top pitcher. There's no way in hell they're going to deal him in May for prospects when they are very much in the pennant race. If the Phillies were to deal Abreu, I'd accept no less than A-Rod. I doubt the Yanks are making that trade.

Sarcasm, I'm sure. That's what he says every time he says something stupid.

Players like Abreu shouldn't (key word) be dealt for 2 mediocre prospects. That's what the Yankees have.

If a team with a rich farm system wanted to do it and was willing to give up great prospects, then it would be feasible. Not a farm system of the Yankees caliber, or lack thereof. Also, Abreu wouldn't be traded at this point in the season.

The Yankees don't have the prospects to make an Abreu deal and whatever they have left in the farm system is going to have to be used to get pitching. It doesn't seem like they have the arms this year to make a deep run.

Yes I did say why I didn't want him. It's not my fault you cant read. I clearly stated that I wanted the Yankees to play Melky and Kevin Thompson during this stretch and see what they have in them. Plus Abreu had a horrible second half last year, he is due a ton of money the next couple of years and I really dont want to see the Yankees adding payroll, especially to their outfield. If I were to see the Yankees add payroll I would hope it would be to pitching and not another bat in the lineup.

I thought the portion "...traded away to a team for a player that I dont want" was referring to Abreu.

Mets up 2-0 in the top of the 1st, thanks partly to Delgado's 13th HR, a solo shot to right center.

The Metropolitans will need all the offense they can muster with Lima on the mound.

Delgado's 13th gives the Mets a 2-0 lead midway through the 1st. Let's see if Lima can hold that lead for at least an inning or two.

Just let it go.

Abreu's poor second half was due to nagging injuries that he never once sat out for in the heat of the pennant race. I wouldn't make a trade if I were the Yankees either though, because it doesn't really improve their team. Besides, what the hell do they do when it's July and they have an outfield of Abreu/Damon/Sheffield/Matsui/Williams? Talk about overkill. Bring up Kevin Thompson and platoon him with Bubba Crosby. Even replacement level production in left should only cost the Yankees two wins or so until Matsui gets back. Of course, Tony Womack is available.

But that's not the Yankees way damnit! We need All-Stars at every position, and on the bench!

The much ballyhooed Cole Hamels is pitching a shutout through 5. He's given up 1 hit, and has 7 K's, but he's also walked 5. Phillies lead 2-0 thanks to a 2 run HR by Howard. It looks like Mets/Phillies for the division with Atlanta a distant 3rd early on.

Hamels vs. Mike Pelfrey is one of the under the radar storylines coming up this season.

Pulling Hamels was probably a good idea because of the pitch count, but don't you guys have Delluci on the bench? Or did Nunez and Alex Gonzalez impale him with a bat so they could get all the key pinch-hit at-bats?

Dellucci, although the Reds' might've gone to a lefty.
