Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2006 Brewers beat the Phillies, 3-2. Turnbow gets the win. Bill Hall makes a big defensive play to end the top of the 9th, after moving to shortstop from CF (JJ Hardy apparently got hurt), then ends up scoring the winning run after smashing a double. Is there anything this guy can't do?
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2006 Well, if the Blue Jays are on a 2-game winning streak, that must mean it's time for a loss. 3-0 Angels after 3, and Glaus is hurt.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2006 Phils lose thanks to Ryan Franklin's throwing error. Which raises the question: why was a mop-up man pitching with the game on the line?
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2006 I didn't notice five of the eight runs Felix Hernandez has given up tonight were unearned thanks to Adrian Beltre's error. That's seven on the season by the way, just four less than his RBI count. That contract's turning out to be the hitter's version of that five-year deal the Rangers gave Park. It was a tough hop but he Buckner'd it pretty good. Hernandez has been awful though even if he should have been out of the inning as he gave up the granny to Melhuse. Swisher took him deep last inning for his 13th. 10-1 now after a two rbi single by Kendall. Hernandez is pulled.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2006 The Mets need to learn how to work the rain out. They couldn't stall long enough to avoid an official game in a Steve Trachsel start against Philly, and tonight all they needed to do was make a quick out, and get 3 outs before the heavens erupted to beat the Cards. Instead they tried to tack on runs, leading to what will likely end up being a suspended game where they'll have to get 9 outs to close the deal, and Pujols will get at least 1 AB in that scenario whereas he would have been the 5th man to bat in the bottom of the 7th. Again, I blame Willie Randolph.

I think it's kind of pathetic that you get so worked up over a game that has zero implication on the Mets. The only reason why you hate the Yankees is because you wish the Mets were just like them in every aspect so that just makes you a jealous hater. In fact, I root for the Mets. I would love to see another Subway Series. I didn't realize I got "worked up" over that game. I don't get "worked up" over any game because I have no impact on them. If you meant that I'm a jealous hater because I wish the Mets had millions of poser fans who claim they are "lifelong fans" but can't name 5 starters on the CURRENT Yankees team, nor have they ever been to Yankee Stadium to watch a game, then yeah I'm really fucking jealous. I mean, I'd love to have an organization with at least 70% bandwagon fans who were Mets fans back in the '80s, or only like the team because Derek Jeter is SOOOOOOOO CUTE!, and would be Mets "fans" if they won a couple of championships (which admittedly won't ever happen). Sign me up! Seriously, it's asinine comments like yours that make me root against the Yankees because all of their fans are spoiled, and feel just as entitled as you do. At least the Cubs fan suffers for his love and I can respect that.

Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2006 Whassup w/ Jimmy Rollins? He finally developed into a leadoff hitter towards the end of last year, but he seems to have taken several steps back this year. His OBP is only 4 points higher than Sal Fasano's (.306 to .302) and 7 points lower than David Bell's (.313 to .306). He only has 13 walks.
Cuban Linx 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2006 Figures once the Rangers offence puts up a big score the pitching decides to totally fall to shit as well, i guess the rest of the bullpen didn't want to leave Francisco Cordero alone when it comes to blowing leads. If nothing else hopefully going 4/5 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI's can get Mark Teixeira really kickstarted, as far as elite-level players go he's probably been the quietest so far. If you crowd the plate, how can you complain about getting hit by an inside pitch every now and then? Frankly, he shouldn't be allowed to wear all that "armor" either. Well, the funny thing about it is that the armor is actually illegal, per MLB batting equipment regulations, but MLB "grandfathered" it for a select few players at the time, including (obviously) Barry Bonds. Bonds wore the armor for a forearm injury years ago, but because he was wearing it for injury at the time that the ruling came down, he was able to wear it even after the restrictions took hold. Bonds isn't the only player who benefitted from this - I believe Mo Vaughn was another player who wore that armor for injury - but I think Bonds is the last one left playing in the big leagues. Personally, I think more pitchers should drill him, if only because so many of them intend on walking him anyway. Since Barry wants to hover over the plate, throw one at his legs. Let him take first base with one pitch and protect the plate.
