Hank Kingsley Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 What do you think are some of the best songs that are under, say, 2 minutes 30 seconds? (I know, years ago that might be considered average length, but not anymore with 4+ becoming the norm) The Beatles - Eleanor Rigby (2:04) Bob Dylan - Subterranean Homesick Blues (2:21) Tom Waits - I Don't Wanna Grow Up (2:30) Pixies - Isla De Encanta (1:41) The Rolling Stones - Hang Fire (2:23) etc. What else?
Guest Felonies! Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 The Smiths - "William, It Was Really Nothing" at around 2.09 Tom Waits - "Cemetery Polka" 1.46 The Beatles - "For No One" 1.59 I think?

CanadianGuitarist Posted May 24, 2006 Report Posted May 24, 2006 All I want was my first thought. We might need a separate list for non-punk bands. Anyone ever hear Music is like Beer by the Dave Brockie experience?
daileyxplanet Posted May 24, 2006 Report Posted May 24, 2006 Danielson Famile - Rubbernecker - 1:46 Copeland - Brightest - 2:05 The Beach Boys - I Get Around - 2:13 The Beach Boys - Wouldn't It Be Nice - 2:24 Now, if it were under 3 minutes, there'd be a lot more.

Corey_Lazarus Posted May 24, 2006 Report Posted May 24, 2006 "Fishfuck" isn't 32 seconds long. It's a minute and 32 seconds. Ahem... Guest Felonies! Posted May 24, 2006 Report Posted May 24, 2006 I officially declare the thread closed. From here on out, we're just naming songs regardless of quality.
Guest Felonies! Posted May 24, 2006 Report Posted May 24, 2006 I thought I wrapped it up with "Thick as a Brick," but yeah, that too. Hey, did you like The Bends?
Hank Kingsley Posted May 24, 2006 Author Report Posted May 24, 2006 Yes, yes, and yes, thanks for that. And you were right about "High and Dry." I like it as a song but it'd be better near the end of the album. "Fake Plastic Trees" dwarfs it.
Guest Felonies! Posted May 24, 2006 Report Posted May 24, 2006 Thanks! I've been pitching that to everyone and nobody else agrees. Whaaatever. I've decided it would be really awesome to live in the Marina Towers, as featured on Wilco's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. You know. Just because.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted May 24, 2006 Report Posted May 24, 2006 Whenever I think of more songs, I just go back and edit them into my original post. So, you know, it doesn't seem like I'm adding to a dead thread.
Angle-plex Posted May 25, 2006 Report Posted May 25, 2006 Pretty sure "Norwegian Wood" - The Beatles is only two minutes.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted May 25, 2006 Report Posted May 25, 2006 So are a lot of other Beatles songs, yet none made my list. How about that.
PLAGIARISM! Posted May 25, 2006 Report Posted May 25, 2006 'Ex Lion Tamer' has already been mentioned when the thread was still alive, but that won't stop me agreeing with it now. Also, every other Wire song from their golden period could probably go in here, I always loved the fact that whilst the song 'Pink Flag' is like 3.40, it sounds like an absolute epic.
Corey_Lazarus Posted May 25, 2006 Report Posted May 25, 2006 Yeah, I blame Corey Lazarus. Why? Because most of the songs by three of my favorites bands fall under the criteria of being shorter than 2:30?
FroGG_NeaL Posted May 25, 2006 Report Posted May 25, 2006 Because that GODDAMN HOLY SHIT ITS STARIN AT ME! baby-creature-corpse-type thing in your sig fucks up people's heads, and they think they're actually posting good songs.
Guest Felonies! Posted May 25, 2006 Report Posted May 25, 2006 "Thick as a Brick" already established the "it's funny because it's long" thing; why list an 8 when I've already done a 44? That's IT. Thread CLOSED.
