devo 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2006 Pujols cranks his 25th, a three-run job that puts the Cards up 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2006 Albert just hit #25, a three-run shot, to put the Astros up 3-1 in the 7th. Garner lifted Oswalt after six and 91 pitches. I'm not sure why, though. He looked like he could've gone another inning and he was pinch-hit for to lead off the 7th, so it wasn't as if the Astros had a RISP and Oswalt due. And as wild as Lidge has been, I'm not sure why Garner wouldn't bring him in with two outs in the seventh, Pujols due and the game certainly hanging in the balance. Ah, that's right. It wasn't a save situation. Surely won't be one in the 9th, either. Genius!
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2006 Dusty may be an idiot, but I guess I can live with the knowledge that he's got someone on his tail and he's in the same division.
vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2006 The announcers were saying it was probably due to the heat in St. Louis. It was around 90 degrees. But yeah, Pujols jacked it. And I didn't see the Callison family in attendence. Who's up next on the list for Fat Albert? Oh well, at least Carp's going on the DL, but with Pettitte struggling and how good Anthony Reyes supposedly is, it might be a tough day tomorrow.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2006 Brad Penny revealed after the game he's been pitching with injuries, but he was still upset he wasn't allowed to finish the inning with the three-run lead. Of course, with the way things were at the time he was pulled, there may not have been a three-run lead if he'd been left in there.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2006 - John Leiber's out after two innings, so he must be hurt. - What the hell has happened to Doug Davis? He had command issues last year, but it's killing him this season. Little league defense behind him didn't help him in that five-run, 40-pitch first inning. Mik 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2006 Man... it's about time Scott Olsen pitched like he did today. There's a reason the Marlins trotted him out as one of the faces of the team in the preseason but he was almost in danger of getting demoted. I have very high hopes for him. naiwf 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2006 Does Luiz Gonzalez have the weakest arm in the entire league? The Mets are taking bases on him like he's Mike Piazza behind the plate. Wright wins it with another walkoff single to the warning track in CF.
Bored 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2006 Oh ya the A's are sooooooo going to get swept by the Royals at home, just watch. Not going to be too much longer before they can't say "well at least we're in better shape at this point than last year." 23-28, completely unacceptable for a team expected to compete for the pennant. I don't care how many injuries they've had this is getting embarassing.
Guest Report post Posted May 30, 2006 Brad Penny revealed after the game he's been pitching with injuries, but he was still upset he wasn't allowed to finish the inning with the three-run lead. His back's been screwed up for a while. 23-28, completely unacceptable for a team expected to compete for the pennant. I don't care how many injuries they've had this is getting embarassing. I don't know why they were expected to compete for the pennant, their lineup clearly doesn't have enough.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2006 I still say the A's take it. The Rangers' pitching is crap, the Angels look like they're going to have an off year and the Mariners shouldn't even be a factor at this point.

I don't know why they were expected to compete for the pennant, their lineup clearly doesn't have enough. Because the AL West is terrible and no one could find anyone that was actually worthy of a playoff spot. When MLB came up with this stupid 5/4/4, 5/6/5 plan, you'd think they could have at least put likely contenders in the four-team division. Really, you'd think the East would have been a slam-dunk with New York and Boston. It probably wouldn't have made a huge difference in the long run, but at least there wouldn't be a systemic bias toward bad teams from shitty markets. Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2006 Most years the AL West does produce "likely contenders". Divisions have down years. The NL West was horrible last year, and appears to be on the right track this year. I'm curious what is a better option that 5/5/4 in the AL?
iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2006 I just don't like the idea that there are an uneven number of teams by league, and that some teams have to beat five teams to win a division while others only have to beat three. Personally, I think they shouldn't have expanded to 30 teams until they had a short-term (maybe five-year) plan to make it 32, so that they could even things out. Link: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2462728 You would think the Phillies would go with Ryan Franklin in their next start, but the article on Phillies.com does not even mention him. Instead they mention Eude Brito and Matt White as possibilities. Matt White is not even on the 40 man roster and is not going to get a spot for a spot start. I have to think Franklin's a candidate for that start unless they call up Brito. Brian Sanches meanwhile is called up to fill in the bullpen. Congrats to him.
