Guest Smues Report post Posted June 1, 2006 They probably say full season number so it's comparable to other pitchers salaries.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2006 http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=jp-o...=yhoo&type=lgns A pretty interesting take on the most overpaid and underpaid MLB'ers thus far in 2006. Unsurprisingly, 3 Yankees made the overpaid list.
vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2006 An interesting note on the Clemens contract...he's actually signing two contracts with the Astros-one, a minor league deal worth about 3,000,000 dollars so that he can spend the next 22 days working in the Astros three minor league affiliates. He had to sign a minor league deal because otherwsie the Astros would have had to put him on waivers...and that woulda lead to about 29 other teams claiming him. After his minor league deal is up on the 21st, he has a major league deal in place for June 22nd until the end of the season. The full season deal is for $22, 000,000,022, and of that much, he'll make about $12.4 million, so assuming he makes 20 starts, that's about $600,000 a start....good money if you can find it. And I also find it amusing that Clemens is number 22, he's making 22 million 22 dollars and he's starting on June 22nd.
Kismet 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2006 Ah damn it. I can't get the local broadcast for the Tigers tonight, so I'm forced to watch ESPN's coverage. So I get Chris Berman slobbering all over the Yanks for 3 hours. Ugh. Suppose this could of went into the ESPN sucks thread. Here's hoping they can get at least the one win tonight from the Yankees. This series has been the drop back to reality.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2006 Mike Maroth will be having surgery to remove bone chips in his pitching elbow. A bummer, but hopefully they can get around it until he gets back(the 0 for 3 vs the Yankees so far not withstanding). I pray they get their head outta their ass and start Zumaya...he competed for a spot in the rotation in spring training and hes a starter in a relief role...the Tigers seem to have forgotten that...a starter is more important than a set up man anyday Why would they want to remove one of the key piece of their pen so far? The starting pitching has been excellent thus far, but the real dynamic of their staff is the insanely reliable bullpen. They put him into a starting role and they lose a ton of stability in the portion of the game where they've excelled. From what I've seen, Zumaya, Rodney and Jones are the only ones who are regularly tested from that pen. I'm not all that familiar with the rest of it, but I'd venture to say some of the great ERAs are products of infrequent appearances.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2006 I'd just like to say this series is why I expect Los Tigres to watch the postseason from their respective homes. I just don't see the White Sox, Yankees or Red Sox getting blown out and swept at home in a 4 game set by a real contender.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2006 I see Turnbow blew another save, which led to a Pirates sweep of the Brew Crew. More importantly (to me) is the win puts the Cubs only one game ahead of the Bucs. The Cubs, who sport an 8-18 road record, spend their next 10 on the road. CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2006 5-0 Yankees already. I think the Tigers will be able to hang around for awhile yet, just because of all the games they get against the Twins and Royals, but they're not going anywhere in October.
Failed Bridge 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2006 Sheffield could be out for the rest of the season now with that wrist injury. He has a torn ligament and dislocated tendon in his left wrist and still refuses surgery. Oh, and Mariano Rivera hurt his back somehow.
mike546 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2006 While trying to tie his shoe! Yet somehow, this team keeps winning with the Phillips, Cabreras, Ericksons, Cairos ect .. being a part of the daily day lineup and pitching.
UZI Suicide 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2006 Dodgers placed Jeff Kent on the DL and have called up another top prosect, this time it's Joel Guzman. He isn't starting tonight though. Also, Eric Gagne will be available to pitch out of the bullpen tonight.

Yet somehow, this team keeps winning with the Phillips, Cabreras, Ericksons, Cairos ect .. being a part of the daily day lineup and pitching. Having a bunch of future Hall of Famers on the side has that effect. Looks like Zoolander's going the way of Josh Beckett with that blister.
mike546 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2006 But most of those players are injured too. Damon's playing wih a broken toe, Posada with a torn tendon in his knee, Giambi with his assortment of injuries, and Jeter with his hand. This team is a walking bandaid. Also, Eric Gagne will be available to pitch out of the bullpen tonight. There's more on the way, even if people don't get hurt. All that the injuries are doing is raising teams interest in making trades with them at the deadline.

Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2006 I wanted the Yanks to win, but I give credit to the Tigers for coming back and snatching this. It looked like it was gonna be a laugher early, but the lack of Yanks' offense in the second half and persistence of the Tigers pays off. This is a perfect example of why Farns' contract is hilarious.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2006 Farnsworth borrowed Chris Reitsma's gas can, it looks like. That's a good result...every game counts in the AL East race, both your own and the other teams'.

naiwf 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2006 Jorge Julio did the Mets a favor tonight by closing out a game against the Braves. However, if the D-Backs think he's the answer in the closer spot I feel for them.
Bored 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2006 In his last seven starts Barry Zito has allowed only six runs in 48 innings pitched and his ERA is down to 2.87 now. CONTRACT YEAR~! Frank Thomas has risen from the dead, since his return to Chicago he has hit five homeruns in 11 games hitting .400 during that span. They still suck though. UZI Suicide 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2006 This Dodgers-Phillies game is awesome. Dodgers were up 7-0 going into the 9th and the crowd has been chanting "We Want Gagne". They bring in Tim Hamulack instead and the crowd keeps cheering for the Phillies hits and booing when he gets an out.
Guest Report post Posted June 2, 2006 I've come to the conclusion that Tim Hamulack really shouldn't be in the major leagues.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2006 If Tim Hamulack is a nickname for Gavin Floyd, then yes he really shouldn't be in the big leagues. Floyd sucked balls in AAA last year and I don't see why he has this golden ticket for a major league job. Ok, it was worth it to start the season instead of Ryan Franklin, but we are getting way past the struggle stage and into the flat out suck period.
