For what it's worth, Chase Utley's shoulderblock on Russell Martin was absolutely deplorable. There are times when a runner needs to run into a catcher, but Utley went out of his way to crush Martin above the shoulders when he EASILY could've slid around him. The play wasn't close. Meanwhile the announcers praise Utley for "playing the game right." Fuck that shit. The object of baseball is not to needlessly injure the competition.

I was thinking the same thing, but I didn't want to start an argument in case you disagreed. There's no need to run into someone's back when he could have stood up and ran across the plate. The play wasn't the same as Erstad's last year, but both shouldn't have happened. I hate when guys that aren't near the plate get hit.

I thought that Little was going to have Rowand thrown at, or Utley later on. Both wouldn't have been good.

This isn't football.

I'm glad the Reds swept the Astros, most wins in a row since April, and sure facing a Pujols-less Cards is nice (though I agree he's a class act), I'm actually relieved we're not in 1st right now, little less pressure and I have a feeling Reds may surprise a lot more people as the season continues. We're starting to get a grip on some of these problems we've had (though those errors have got to go).

Hey al, a buddy of mine from the area said that the Columbus Clippers (Yankees AAA) are moving to the Scranton/Wilkes area. Any truth to that?

There have been rumors about the Yankees taking an interest in the site since last season. The Phillies have publicly stated that they are unlikely to renew their player development contract with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, leaving a vacancy. SWB is guaranteed a AAA franchise so if the Phillies leave, a new team will come in. The rumored teams have included the Yankees, Mets, Washington Nationals and Baltimore Orioles. The decision making process will occur in September. Until then, teams can not discuss particulars.

Melky Cabrera, Andy Phillips and Colter Bean for Dontrelle. They better offer that one up.

Seriously, I don't even know if that package could fetch a mid-level starter.

Especially since they designated Colter Bean for assignment long ago.

I'll be honest. He was just a random name that I used to fit the 3rd spot, only because his name's funny.

I don't think they designated him for assignment that long ago.

I don't give a shit about the Yankees.

What was the offer that the Red Sox made to the Angels involving Manny during the offseason?

Manny for Brandon Wood, Chone Figgons, and Ervin Santana was the proposal I believe.

Also, Boston screwed up when they traded Renteria, unless he's playing this well due to being comfortable with the pitching.

I think Larussa was actually right when he said "Edgar can't handle large markets. He's the quiet type that won't be able to handle the pressure".

Even though I know first hand how good Wood is, the Angels should have taken that deal.

Duncan and Hughes will be in any and all trade talk, I can tell you that.

Unless the deal is for a young cheap, great hitter, and a young, cheap, great pitcher, or basically a no brainer absolute ownage trade, Hughes isn't going anywhere.
