The draft is now over and after 1,502 picks, neither Danny Almonte or Jeffrey Maier were chosen. Both are now free agents, and I think it's almost certain that one or both shows up in an independant league in the near future.

Jays get a nice assist from Melvin Mora there. Aaron Hill made a nice catch in shallow left for the 2nd out in the 9th with runners on 2nd and 3rd and the Orioles down 2. For some reason, Mora decides to go home and is out at the plate. Thanks a lot!

Something's up with Oliver Perez. I remember him being so dominate in 2004, but since then, his command has been awful, his strikeouts have decreased and he's getting shelled regularly.

Oliver Perez is weird. He throws no two consecutive pitches with the same motion. I think that's his problem. Hey, the Bucs drafted my boy Brad Lincoln, who, by most accounts, is ML ready (he's at least as good, if not better, than the Pirates rotation); perhaps they could send Perez down and call up Lincoln. Perez does have an option, and I think it would be neat to see somebody that I know indirectly pitching in the big leagues...besides Ryan Wagner.

Entering tonight's game Furcal had 59 HRs in 3494 AB, or 1 every 59.2 AB. 2 in a single game is basically a month's worth of work for him. I guess we did the next 20-25 opponents of the Dodgers a favor by having him use up his monthly power stroke.

 

I'm just tired of the Mets getting beat/hammered by guys that don't bat 2-5.

Nomar just relapsed to his days as a Cub getting gunned down at second by a Milledge LASER from deep left with his team down by 3 in the 8th. The kid is a 5 tool player who just needs some plate discipline. I'm glad we didn't trade him.

The Twins tied it up at nine with a slam in the 8th, but lose in extras thanks to a Carl Everett walkoff.

The Tigers continue the freefall back to reality, losing another one to an upper tier team(Cintron got them again), as well as losing outfielder Monroe to injury last night. At least they are being competitive in most of these games. No complaints here, as they are still far ahead of where they have any right to be. And if all else fails, they have a four game set with Tampa Bay coming up. Maybe they can be Detroits' slumpbuster.
