TWIB: June 5-11

Funny I don't remember Yankee fans whining about Jeter's lack of "clutch" last season when he just .261 with a pathetic .355 SLG with RISP.

Jeter is off to a hot start and we'll see if he can keep it up. Maybe he can actually have a better year than A-Rod for the first time in seven years.

Quite the pitcher's duel going on in Kansas City. The Rangers are leading the Royals after 3 innings, 11-8. Both starters are gone after allowing a total of 17 runs in a combined 4 2/3 innings.

Actually, I do. I remember a discussion about it with someone making a list of the amount of times Jeter came up with the tying run on base or him up as the tying run in the 9th inning.

Hey look at that Reitsma raised his ERA to 7.62. Come on Chris, you can get it to double digits I know you can!

The Jays are never going to win 3 in a row. Halladay was ok, but nothing special and the bullpen couldn't hold the lead and walked, beaned, and wild pitched in the tying, go ahead, and insurance runs. Doubt they'll come back off of Ray, too.

Ohhhhhhhhhh, we need pitching help. There's only one starter who can go all the way to Ryan, and even he can't do it every time out.

The weird thing is, even though they've only won three straight once all year, the Jays are still 7 games over .500 and only 2 1/2 out of the division lead.

El Duque just had a THIRTEEN pitch at bat. He struck out at the end, but that was still pretty impressive nonetheless.

Hey, so Berkman had a pretty good game. 3 for 4. 2 400+ foot homeruns. 4 RBIs. Threw Francoeur out at the plate. I was disappointed that he didn't try to swipe a bag in the 7th. John Thomson might be the sweatiest person I've ever seen...unless he just soaks his cap in water. Chris Reitsma is horrible. I still hate Chipper Jones. Marcus Giles is as short in person as John Rauch is tall in person. Pettitte still didn't pitch extremely well. If we were playing the Reds, they would've got about 5 or 6 runs off of him. The home plate umpire was terrible.

Orlando Hernandez throws a complete game, giving up only one run and three hits in the process. His performance tonight makes me very, very happy.

The fact he did it IN Arizona was even better. The D'Backs got fleeced and the rotation looks much better with the two Cuban defectors at the back end now. Sucks for Bannister and Maine, but thank God that we probably won't see Lima or Gonzalez again. The lead is back up to 4.5, and Atlanta's slip sliding away. Not a bad evening at all.

Good summary. It seemed like after the first inning every time AP looked like he was going to pull it all together he'd give up a couple of hits and get back into trouble. But hey, a win's a win and they're at 3 in a row.

Yeah, that home plate umpire was atrocious. It seemed like he was favoring whichever team had the lead. Pettitte looked boss in the first inning. He had his slider looking nasty, but I think the umpire made him work harder than he should've had to in the 3rd, and he started struggling after that. No offense to our resident Braves fans, but...man...they don't look so good. I would be surprised if we don't take 3 outta 4 this series.

Did I hear Buster Olney right on BBTN when he said that with Pujols out, MVP consideration has to be given to Lance "Big Puma" Berkman? That rules.

Hmm, so 13 games under now. It's gonna take a nice winning streak from the baby bears for the city NOT to riot when Dusty gets his extension. I can't recall a team expected to contend this consistently not firing their manager after so many failed seasons.

Suddenly blowing an 11 run lead to the Yankees doesn't seem quite as bad compared to the Rangers giving up 16 runs and a 7 run lead to the damn Royals. It'd be nice if they could score double-digit runs without allowing 15 or so in return as well.

I wouldn't be surprised if you took all 4.

There's a report out there that Dmitri Young has checked into the Betty Ford Center.

What a screwed up family. At least their little sister hasn't gone nuts, yet.

Sorry if it was brought up already, but it was nice to see Baseball Tonight do a good segment on Bill Hall's walk-off home run against the Padres yesterday. They did a short interview with him and brought up his stats, etc.

Don't bet on that one! When the Cubs get Wood, Prior, and Lee all back, things will start to turn around!!!!!

Ahhh, the ever optimistic Cubs fans.

Heeeeeeeey...I just read somewhere that the Mets and the Rockies have agreed to swap Kaz Matsui with Eli Marrero, with the Mets picking up the rest of Matsui's contract. I have no idea as to the accuracy of the forementioned scenario, but meh.

Works for me if it's true. Kaz is barely batting his weight this year and we all know his defense sucks. Good riddance.

I like the Cubs, they're my 2nd favorite team, but at this point does it really matter? Barring something amazing the year is pretty much done.

Not really, but it'll further illustrate the Cards' ability to make the deal the Cubs insist can't be made. Hendry's claimed since Lee went down that a trade couldn't be made, which is clearly a lie. One can be made; it just may cost you more.

As I typed this, I saw the Cubbies have placed Wood on the DL...again. The guy's worthless and I pray the team not only declines his option for '07, but doesn't try to work out a new deal with him.
