strummer 0 Report post Posted June 22, 2006 I know blown saves is a pretty worthless stat, but Wagner has already more than he did all of last season. Edit: Word is Wagner's finger is still bothering him which makes it hard for him to throw a slider. If that's true he should be DL'ed immediately because all he threw tonight was fastballs. TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe 0 Report post Posted June 22, 2006 Torre doesn't trust the rest of the Yankee bullpen to get 3 outs before giving up 5 runs, so Rivera is in the game with a FIVE RUN LEAD. I didn't get to see the game tonight, but...this is just getting rediculous.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted June 22, 2006 Just got back from the Indians/Cubs game that was cut short due to heavy rain and OMG LIGHTNING! Anyway, the Indians' defense cost them this game, even if there were no errors. With two on and no outs, a grounder to Broussard was thrown home, even though Neifi wasn't going home. That loaded up the bases. The next play was hit to Belliard, who wanted to throw to second or first. He double-clutched in both directions before making no play. From there, the Cubs just laid in single after single to eventually drive Sabathia out. Later on, Todd Hollandsworth gave the Indians fans the most they had to cheer about on the night. With two on, he hit a ball right to a charging Nevin at first. Knowing that going back to first to get the out would mean the runner at third would attempt to score, Nevin just went towards Hollandsworth, who sort of inched his way back to homeplate, occasionally looking over at the runner at third. There was a point when Nevin and Holly were just looking at each other before the tag was finally applied. Not sure if it'll make the highlights, but I'd never seen such a drawn out play like that before. P.S. some drunkard went apeshit during the delay when Wagner couldn't nail down the game. We were watching the game on the big scoreboard and I guess I was the only person who was happy to see him blow the game. Good times.
vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted June 22, 2006 I just wanted to wish everyone a very happy "Clemens Day". I know I'm in the minority of people that like Clemens, but I'm really, really excited to see him pitch tonite. I'm also really, really excited to see Liriano pitch tonite. I'm expecting Clemens to have a good game tonite. He looked dominant in the minor leagues. Of course the minor leagues aren't the same as the major leagues, but, still, he looked really sharp in his three starts and, being the competitor that he is, I really think that Roger wouldn't have come back if he didn't think he was going to be dominant. So, I'm not worried that Clemens is going to get rocked, I'm just worried about what our bats are going to do against Liriano. Should be a good game.

TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe 0 Report post Posted June 22, 2006 Bad news: I just picked up Jason Marquis off the free agent list in fantasy, and he pretty much conceded the ERA points for this week. My first really awful start of the season, since my rotation features Hallady, Bonderman, and Pedro, plus BJ Ryan and Jenks. Good news: I also just picked up Joe Crede, in time for in to go 5-8 with 3 HRs, 4 RBI, and 5 runs scored in the first two days on my team.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted June 22, 2006 Derrek Lee is expected back Monday and I've read that MATT MURTON is the possible candidate to be sent down when that happens. I'm gonna break something if Murton's sent down and Freddie Bynum remains on the MLB roster. Murton's slugging .367. Young players deserve a shot, but they do not get a free pass. If Murton can't produce, he should not be on the roster. Whether they can replace him with a good player is up for debate. Yankees' 2004 Record: 101-61. I am aware that the Yankees weren't really hurt as far as fielding a competitive team when Clemens and Pettitte left, and I'm also aware that the Astros dramatically underperformed for the first half of 2004 and Pettitte only started 14 games in 2004, but it was a big deal for Texas people everywhere to see two Texas guys leaving the big city to come back home. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted June 22, 2006 Al, at this point, there are no better options for left. I've heard perhaps Nevin in the outfield, but that could be disasterous. The only other options appear to be Bynum and Womack. Maybe Mabry, but you get the idea. If they're going to work from an in-house perspective, Murton's probably their best choice. Where we lost to the Phillies in one of the best playoff series of all time? So what? Now if you're talking about the Astros losing to the coked up jackasses that were the 1986 Mets, that would be mean. I still get a kick out of how terrified the Mets were of Mike Scott that year. You'd think he was Sandy Koufax and Cy Young rolled into one. Amazing what a little sandpaper can do for a person. BTW strummer, I think Wagner's reluctance to throw a slider stems more from the fact that the guy still thinks he can simply throw his fastball by everyone. It makes for a great contest to see at which point the ball is faster: when it comes out of his hand or when it comes off the hitter's bat.
