2GOLD Posted July 2, 2006 Report Posted July 2, 2006 Wow, I thought it would do more than 52 million. Then again, fourth of july weekend and the weather FINALLY being nice down here at the beaches after three weeks of rain rain rain might have effected the numbers for it. Still, very good weekend indeed.
Lord of The Curry Posted July 2, 2006 Report Posted July 2, 2006 That's gotta be considered a dissapointment for Superman, even with the long weekend. The studio's were hoping for at least 80+.
Lord of The Curry Posted July 2, 2006 Report Posted July 2, 2006 I need to work on reading full sentances.
The Fett Posted July 2, 2006 Report Posted July 2, 2006 Why didn’t 'Strangers With Candy' get a wider release? Only 2 theaters played it, but the movie earned an average of $22,250 per theater.
Guest NYankees Posted July 2, 2006 Report Posted July 2, 2006 And they got 84... 84 for it's first 5 days not opening 3 day weekend. Thats almost Hulk like numbers which came out in 2003 and did 64 million for it's opening weekend. Superman making so little is not a good sign especially with POTC Dead Mens Chest coming out next weekend.
bob_barron Posted July 2, 2006 Report Posted July 2, 2006 It's running behind what War of the Worlds and Spider-Man 2 did the previous two years, but is running ahead of Batman Begins, T:3 and King Kong all did in its first 5 days.
Mole Posted July 2, 2006 Author Report Posted July 2, 2006 It had pretty good numbers, but not as good as I thought it would do. I was looking at it beating Spiderman 2, but whatever.
bob_barron Posted July 2, 2006 Report Posted July 2, 2006 You thought it would beat Spider-Man 2? Yea, that was never going to happen.
The Robfather Posted July 2, 2006 Report Posted July 2, 2006 DC characters will never be able to do the Spiderman-type numbers. Just a fact of life.
Guest NYankees Posted July 2, 2006 Report Posted July 2, 2006 Aquaman did. I was thinking the same thing, LOL. 116 million for it's opening weekend.
ZGangsta Posted July 3, 2006 Report Posted July 3, 2006 Aquaman did. I was thinking the same thing, LOL. 116 million for it's opening weekend. Yeah but that was James Cameron guys. And I could see Batman Begins 2 (or whatever they call it) doing numbers up there since the first was so well recieved (and had insane legs at the box office) and this one will have Joker in it
Kurt Angle Mark Posted July 3, 2006 Report Posted July 3, 2006 DC characters will never be able to do the Spiderman-type numbers. Just a fact of life. Taking the situation at that time Superman already did "Spiderman numbers" in 1978 and Batman did the same in 1989
Exslade ZX Posted July 3, 2006 Report Posted July 3, 2006 There was an Aquaman movie? And just a side note I guess, did a search for Aquaman on IMDB since I had never heard of the movie (didn't find it either) and evidently there's going to be an Aquaman series starting this year, by the creators of Smallville. Which is sort of cool I guess, if youre a Smallville/aquaman fan that is.
Mole Posted July 3, 2006 Author Report Posted July 3, 2006 No, there wasn't an Aquaman movie. It was something from Entourage.

That tidbit actually came up with at about the same time as the news on the Legion animated series.
Hawk 34 Posted July 3, 2006 Report Posted July 3, 2006 I don't think you CAN do a Aquaman movie thanks to Entourage.
Vyce Posted July 3, 2006 Report Posted July 3, 2006 I think you can. Why? Because now all I want to fucking see is a Aquaman movie made by James Cameron. Unfortunately, a 116 million opening would only cover like half of his budget for the film.
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted July 3, 2006 Report Posted July 3, 2006 The rumour was that he was seriously thinking about it with Mark Wahlberg as the lead. Probably won't happen. Marky Mark looks hella old these days.
cabbageboy Posted July 3, 2006 Report Posted July 3, 2006 That's kind of the point though. Superman drew major money in 1978 and Batman drew big in 1989. For the past 15-20 years though Marvel has been much more popular than DC. I do think the next Batman movie will make more than the Begins did. Let's face it, Begins had some things going against it and it still did 200 million or so domestic. It had to overcome the Schumacher films and the bad taste those left, as well as the fact that it was lacking a real money drawing villain.

My point was that if there had already been a really good Spiderman movie made in a previous decade then the current Spiderman movies wouldn't have done the same box office because of a "been there done that" effect Anyway I think there is one DC Character that can draw "Spiderman" huge if done correctly and that is GREEN LANTERN You could have the most visually appealing powers ever on screen Plus make it a space adventure with the Green Lantern Corps and the Guardians and Sci-Fi geeks will be going into a frenzy.
AndrewTS Posted July 3, 2006 Report Posted July 3, 2006 Is Jack Black still supposed to star in the Green Lantern movie?
Black Lushus Posted July 3, 2006 Report Posted July 3, 2006 ah come on man, there's no way a Green Lantern movie could get close to Spider-Man numbers if Superman and Batman couldn't even do it...outside of us dorks, the casual movie fan(and even comic book fan in some cases) doesn't know Lantern like they know the other 3. It'd get FF4/Daredevil/Punisher numbers at best.
Dandy Posted July 3, 2006 Report Posted July 3, 2006 No, it was dropped. Edit---This was about the GL movie.
Dandy Posted July 3, 2006 Report Posted July 3, 2006 You know what might beat Spiderman numbers? Superman vs. Batman, or a Justice League movie with all the right villains.
The Robfather Posted July 3, 2006 Report Posted July 3, 2006 The big problem with this Superman movie is WB dug themselves quite a hole getting it out of development hell.
razazteca Posted July 3, 2006 Report Posted July 3, 2006 The next big thing http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0451279/
Vampiro69 Posted July 3, 2006 Report Posted July 3, 2006 Personally I would love to see the Flash come to the big screen. Let Ryan Reynolds play Wally West/Flash. The villians is harder to determine although I think the best choices would be Captain Cold, Mirror Master and Weather Wizard. I also heard that a Captain Marvel (DC) is in the works. Anyone know if that is true?
