Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2006 Cam'ron- Killa Season T.I- King Islands- Return to the sea That's really all I've given a shit about in 2006. Biggest dissapointment has to be Amy Milan's "Honey from the tombs".

Annabelle 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2006 oh wait, i liked the j dilla & ghostface albums as well. not on the same level as the others, unfortunately. hey lotc, is killa season really THAT good? i sorta blackballed cam for his petulant & contrived "diss" on jay. is it?\ i did enjoy the mstrkrft album. but its really not that original in its conception. its a hodge podge of stuff thats being done better elsewhere. paris is great, but its a total rip off of the entire ed banger french house scene. that said, its fine. Annabelle 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2006 biggest surprise : e40 - my ghetto report card biggest disappointment - flaming lips - at war with the mystiques biggest expectation - rhcp to crumble under the weight of a double album. its made me HATE them. Red Baron 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2006 RHCP new album is horrible. They should have stopped at Californication.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2006 Only album from this year that I've bought was Shadows Fall's Fallout From the War...and it's good. Not amazing, but pretty good. Not even a true album, just mostly b-sides and songs that were written on the road during the tour for War Within. I do have to say, though, that Darkest Hour's Undoing Ruin would've been my vote for this year's best heavy album...had it not come out last year. Looking forward to Slayer's release later this year since "Cult" is a pretty damn good tune that harkens back to Seasons.
PUT THAT DICK IN MY MOUTH! 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2006 hey lotc, is killa season really THAT good? i sorta blackballed cam for his petulant & contrived "diss" on jay. is it?\ I'm not lotc, but I'll answer this: It's nowhere near as good as Purple Haze. There's some pretty good tracks on it, but there's some real dead weight too. The whole thing feels kinda cheap and tossed off, like it should have been a five dollar mixtape instead of a full-blown retail album. The only albums I've heard from this year that I really like are Liars' Drum's Not Dead and Belle & Sebastian's The Life Pursuit. I listened to that Scott Walker album once and I have a sneaking suspicion that that it's some kind of masterpiece, but I'm probably never, ever going to listen to the whole thing again. vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2006 The Scott Walker album is a masterpiece, but not one that really lends itself to be listened to several times or even more than occasionally. It's not a masterpiece in its listenability.
Annabelle 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2006 we'll also be talkin' bout pharrell's solo album soon, too. its not the half r&b half rap shit he was hyping before. its just him making fun music for him & his friends. any of this rock-rap, r&b, or pop persuasion is gone. just BANGERS, man. its good, but not t.i. good any of you tired of this yet? t.i. UZI Suicide 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2006 "The Big Bang" is right up there with "King", thanks to Dr. Dre being able resurrect Busta Rhymes' career. Although there really hasn't been any competition for them so far, because there hasn't been a whole lot of albums of any importance on the hip hop front released yet this year. But I'm expecting both of those to be knocked off the top by the new albums by Nas and Clipse.
Guest The Beta Male Report post Posted July 5, 2006 The Devin Townsend band - Synchestra. buy it.. you can thank me later

Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2006 As far as T.I. - King, I am left unimpressed on first listen. I'll give it another shot though. It doesn't surprise me at all to visit Pitchfork and have them splooge all over this shit.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2006 I like the new TVOTR, but parts of it leave me cold. Which is a shame, because I thought the first lp was underrated and the Young Liars ep is my favorite album of the decade thus far. Still, I think they're the best band to come out within the last five years. I've seen them live twice and I hope they make their way down here again.
vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2006 I've seen TVOTR live three times as of yet, and every single time they've blown me away. The first time I saw 'em, they did a beatbox version of "Ambulance" that was amazing. I'd include them in the "Bands Better Live" category, because as good as they are on CD, sometimes, especially on Desperate Youth they've sounded kinda distant and (to use Pitchfork's term) cold, but live, good God, they bring it. They seriously have my two favorite vocalists in all of music right now. The only problem is that they usually have shitty bands play with them. The first time I saw em in Austin, they had this really good band called Apollo Heights, but another shitty local band. The first time I saw em in Houston, they were opening for The Faint. The Faint sucks. All those pseudo-goth kids were blown away by TV on the Radio. This last time, they had some crappy Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs rip off opening for them, but still, TVOTR are the second best touring band I've seen...next to The Arcade Fire. Annabelle 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2006 tv on the radio makes me feel warm all of the time. i dont get a lot of the critisism, although there really hasnt been much of it in this thread.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2006 Have I talked about how much I fucking love Young Liars? The stretch of "Blind"-"Young Liars"-"Mr. Grieves" is as close to perfect as music has gotten in years. The other two songs are fantastic, too.
Annabelle 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2006 conversly, i enjoy the satellite/staring at the sun one-two punch the most.
vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2006 Yeah, TV on the Radio rulz to the max0r. And they have really cool t-shirts. I have the one of the chicken guy stabbing the dragon thing with a spear. That shirt rules. At the first concert of theirs I went to, Kyp told the crowd to "go totally bananas" for the opening band. Any black dude with a gigantic beard and afro that uses the phrase "totally bananas" rules. As good as the stretch at the back end of Young Liars is, I preferthe "Staring at the Sun", "Dreams", "King Eternal", "Ambulance" middle of Desperate Youth... That stretch of songs is like...out of this world good. And "Cover your balls cuz we swing kung-fu" is the most badass thing ever said by anybody anywhere. Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2006 I once interviewed Kyp. It went pretty well, I think. Especially when you consider I wasn't informed which guy from the band I would be interviewing, only knowing that it would be some guy from TVOTR.
vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2006 I'd like to interview the bass player...or the drummer. My girlfriend thinks it's cute that the bass player's so shy that he won't face the audience.
