CanadianChick Posted July 15, 2006 Report Posted July 15, 2006 Just a knitpick...why is No Doubt's Rock Steady ahead of their Tragic Kingdom album? Does anyone actually legit believe that?

Edwin MacPhisto Posted July 15, 2006 Report Posted July 15, 2006 Me too. No Doubt synth > No Doubt ska. I feel like Rock Steady is the closest they ever came to aping Blondie in spirit and sound, which is really what they were always meant to be anyway.
AboveAverage484 Posted July 16, 2006 Report Posted July 16, 2006 I don't care how many times I've heard "How Soon is Now?" I still love it. However, my favorite Smiths is and forever will be "There is a Light That Never Goes Out."
vivalaultra Posted July 16, 2006 Report Posted July 16, 2006 I didn't really dislike "How Soon Is Now?" until I heard that cover version of it that was the theme song to the sexy witch dramedy Charmed. Prior to that, I only didn't care for it because it was overplayed to the mizax, yo. After that, I just stopped really liking it regardless of how often I heard it. I like the Smiths' s/t more than Meat Is Murder, but for no conceivable reason of either's quality. Either way, The Queen is Dead is the money record. I don't even really listen to alot of their original LPs anymore, anyway. They just have so many compilations and such, of which I own most. In the Aeroplane Over the Sea isn't the greatest record of all-time or anything, but I think it's one of the best CDs to come out in the last 10-15 years. It gets in your head....man.
PLAGIARISM! Posted July 16, 2006 Report Posted July 16, 2006 It is the abhorrent cover versions that dimmed my enjoyment of 'How Soon Is Now?', definitely.
Narcoleptic Jumper Posted July 16, 2006 Report Posted July 16, 2006 Aeroplane not recorded well? That's one of the most beautiful, perfect, warm sounding lo-fi records ever made. Not recorded well, psh. My foot.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted July 16, 2006 Report Posted July 16, 2006 Listen to "Two Headed Boy." Every time Mangum reaches the upper end of his register, it causes distortion on the mic. The song was obviously recorded on a cheap tape deck.
