Guest Felonies!

I'm 16, and I'm having a good clean fun time with my friends cruising around the suburbs on a Friday night!

Wait, I just started uncontrollably pumping my fist.

"Experimental Film" by They Might Be Giants does that for me.

To avoid catching shit, I won't mention that I found myself tapping my foot and bobbing my head during the chorus. And I won't mention that I did so in a non-ironic fashion.

I find the whole thing to be pretty generic. I don't care for the Killers at all.

I don't either. But they're not unlistenably bad. On the whole, they're pretty bland, but nice enough to do some foot-tapping.

Yeah, Fall Out Boy is flat out bad. The Killers are just thoroughly acceptable background music. I'm not sure which is worse.

You can tell Pete Wentz really, really, really likes the Smiths--he wrote a book called The Boy With A Thorn In His Side and their song nomenclature is obviously a Moz tribute--and for some reason, this really irritates me. He obviously wants them to be the Smiths of this generation, but God, they're terrible.

Sue me, I like it. Definitely did catch some Springsteen vibe with some of the phrases, but I like Springsteen, and enjoyed the Killers' first album, so this sounds perfectly good to me.

Also, I've heard the "this is what teenagers listen to driving to Denny's at night" comments before, but I don't see it. Their music, to me, doesn't sound like teeny bopper music.

Yeah, I got the Springsteen vibe too. Not terrible or anything, but Bruce has fifty songs with better lyrics and music than this so I'll just listen to them.

Inc. was right when he said that there hasn't been a great American rock band since Hüsker Dü broke up. Where's the innovation, the originality?

I dug it, though they are a guilty pleasure to me. It's fun, inoffensive pop, and there's nothing wrong with a bit of that.

I do hate Fall Out Boy though.

Talking to my girlfriend today, I found out that she likes the song "Dance, Dance" by Fall Out Boy. She also likes that band She Wants Revenge, which is a good example of a band in pretty much the same genre as The Killers, but making music that isn't inoffensive as much as it is actively bad. I mean, I'd go to a Killers concert, but only if I were given the ticket as a gift or won it in some wacky radio promotion.

She Wants Revenge totally seem like Joy Division rip offs, except they're just basically two guys. Hell, I think they even used to be a Joy Division cover band. I mean, I love Joy Division, but She Wants Revenge's lyrics are just too copy-catish.

Husker Du was awesome, but I don't really know anyone who's in to them. Their music is too harsh for a lot of people.

From what I know of She Wants Revenge, I think it's two guys who used to be producers who have tried numerous different gimmicks to become successful recording artists, including doing a hip-hop project, before deciding to cash in on the retro/new wave/80s synth music thing.

Yeah, I like Husker Du.

Really? Their last three albums plus a few selected songs from their early work aren't too harsh. Maybe you should listen to Warehouse: Songs and Stories for some good power pop/alt rock.

Not a fan of She Wants Revenge. It's obviously a Joy Division rip off, and a shitty one at that.

So I've never heard much of Joy Division, but I dig the Cure and the Smiths and other "big-name" 80s indy rock bands, so should I like them?

To some, Joy Division started the whole "proto-punk" new wave thing. Besides when Ian Curtis died, the rest of the band started New Order.
