Annabelle 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2006 really quite a fabulous album. this will totally alienate rap fans. but for fans of music, this is really an experimental jam. big boi still does his thing, but andre 3000 has gone beyond his prince fascination. now its all funkadelic complete with his own maggot brain jam (a bad note). in accordance with the movie, they superficially explore many different styles one would deduce is from the 30's, ect. while a tad offputting, it allows for a fresh & adventurous reinvigoration for the group. andre's tracks are filled with slight guitar riffs that underscore their more gentle rhymes. no hard beats in this; conversly its a truly lightweight & mature outing from the boys. noteworthy tracks include the train, hollywood divorce, and the aforementioned a bad note. of course i am usually totally off base when it comes to experimental rap albums. electric cirus (which i loved) was panned, while phrenology was lauded. i don't get how it works. notice how rap has supplied most of the year's best albums? ah huh. Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2006 This year has been one of the worst years for Hip Hop, as far as albums have gone in my opinion. Haven't heard the full CD of Idlewood yet, but most reviews I've read have been dissapointing.

I usually like radio rap, and I give it a listen every once in a while to see if theres anything worth listening to... this year has been fucking awful for radio rap. As far as indie hip hop goes, I've been getting sort of bored with it... jazz infusion can only go so far. I would love to be proven wrong on this, by the way, please reccomend some good hip hop thats come out this year. (Stuff I've already checked out - Mobb Deep, T.I. , E-40, Ghostface) <- this isn't really what I meant by the bad rap... I enjoyed all that stuff, I've just already checked it out. Also, the three tracks I've heard off Idlewild (Morris Brown, Hollywood Divorce, Idlewild Blues) have been kinda lackluster... I didn't dig on them and I love Outkast. Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2006 I'm not a huge fan of the experimenting Outkast has been doing since and during Stankonia...they need to get back to the Aquemini days.
Ripper 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2006 I have become a bigger fan since they started experimenting with music. I loved the love below and speaker box, stankonia and I will probably love this album.
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2006 I tried with Speakerboxxx/Love Below, I just couldn't handle it...Big Boi isn't impressive enough to go it alone, not without Dre complimenting him...and that weirdness on Love Below, I dunno, it's just not anything that interests me. CheesalaIsGood 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2006 Andre needs to dump Big Boi asap. Then he can just let his weirdness flow.
Annabelle 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2006 noteworthy rap albums this year? i guess i need to support my argument e40 - my ghetto report card t.i. - king ghostface - fishscale rick ross - port of miami rhymefest - blue collar outkast - idlewild cam'rom - killa season j dilla - donuts (not really rap, i guess) ->the shining wasn't too bad, either spankrock - yoyoyoyoyo lupe fiasco - food & liquor all of these have been noteworthy to me. some on different levels. and its not as much me saying this has been a booming year from rap, just saying that there have been several albums that have surpassed anything rock, pop, ect have produced this year. Annabelle 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2006 Rock this year has been terrible. i know. so my statement lies just in much that music this year hasn't been all that great as rap has had a few gems. by no means is it 1996.

FroGG_NeaL 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2006 I've heard the E-40 album, and I liked it. I wouldn't put it on a best of the year so far list, though. I honestly haven't heard the Spankrock album. I'm downloading it right now to check out.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2006 Here's what I think the best albums this year has been... Cunninlynguists - A Piece of Strange Ice Cube - Laugh Now, Cry Later Bronze Nazareth - The Great Migration Zion I - Break A Dawn The Roots - Game Theory Vakill - Worst Fears Confirmed Ghostface - Fishscales Rhymefest - Blue Collar Gnarls Barkley - St. Elsewhere Obie Trice - 2nd Rounds on Me Lupe Fiasco - Food and Liqour(advance) Juvenile - Reality Check Chino XL - Poison Pen Although I said it has been a bad year for Hip Hop, alot of good CD's have come out. I should've re-worded it to mainstream hip hop has sucked this year. I'm suppose to be getting a copy of the new Method CD, and all the tracks I heard from it before have been fire. It should make my list.
