Open the Muggy Gate 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2006 Irregular heartbeats are bullshit. Hell, I had an irregular heartbeat this morning! I'm here, I'm posting... Seriously though, when someone Ortiz's age comes up with an irregular heartbeat, nine times out of ten they did it to themselves. Or the Yankees did it to them. Just sayin The New York Knicks suck. UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2006 Fun Stat: The crappy Red Sox are 55-57 against American League opponents. Only have an above .500 record by going 16-2 against crappy NL.
Open the Muggy Gate 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2006 I only said that cause there's no way to argue with Roy. Like someone said earlier, it's a brick wall. And I think posting and baseball are two totally different level of activities....

You should look at the Red Sox record if you take away their games against the NL and against the Orioles. They are over 10 games below 500 against the American League except for the Orioles. Guest Paul Report post Posted August 30, 2006 They certainly did smack the shit out of the NL, though.

UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2006 Howard just stuck a fork in the Nationals with a 3-run shot. Howard winning 2/3 of the Triple Crown and getting the Phils to playoff during his 2nd year = MVP to me.
DerangedHermit 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2006 Howard for MVP! Carlos Beltran respectfully disagrees.
Guest NYankees Report post Posted August 30, 2006 What about Beltran?
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2006 If Beltran never played a game this year the Mets would likely still be in 1st place in the NL East. Howard's more valuable to his team's success and has better stats.

Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2006 So, Ortiz being out for the time being is probably the move that voters needed to finalize the Jeter love and push him to the MVP.
vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2006 The 'Stros are up 3-0 on Los Cervezadores. Roy O's pitching a gem, giving up 1 hit so far through 6 innings. After the game, the Astros are holding a "major press conference". There's been reports all week that the Astros have been negotiating with Oswalt for a contract, so I assume that's what it is. It'll be the first 5 yr. contract the 'Stros have given a pitcher since Doug Drabek. It's either that or we've traded for David Wells.
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2006 Jeter's winning a first-round exit from the White Sox. Nats do the "walk home a run" gimmick, Utley up 2 outs bases loaded, hope he gets on so Howard can swing his whoopin' stick. Take a look as Chase Utley's picture on the MLB.com live "gameday" thingie...he's all orange except for the tanning goggles area, and looks like a racoon. Howard's more valuable to his team's success and has better stats. He has better power numbers. Better stats is definitely arguable. Coming into tonight. . . Beltran - .286/.389/.631, 124-434, 34 2B, 1 3B, 38 HR, 108 RBI, 105 Runs, 73 BB, 81 K, 16 SB Howard - .294/.382/.627, 140-476, 16 2B, 1 3B, 47 HR, 122 RBI, 79 Runs, 67 BB, 148 K, 0 SB Beltran's got a better OBP, SLG, OPS, twice as many 2B, 26 more runs scored, 67 less K's and 16 more SB. naiwf 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2006 I'd consider voting Cabrera # 1 if the Marlins manage to win the WC because I can't name another one of their regular hitters besides Hanley Ramirez and that's only because I see him every time you post.

That broken bat single was a killer. Good to see Roy O's so pissed at Drayton and Purpura that he wanted out of town ASAP after the trading deadline fiasco. Mediots suck. If it's not Roy O signing an extension or trading for David Wells, I bet Purpura comes out, walks up to the microphone, spreads his arms out and yells, "I'M FUUUUUUUULLLLLLL!!!!!!" Toma Ohka looks ridiculous batting left-handed.
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2006 So much for an Oswalt gem. Giants really put up a stinker tonight. Up 10-3, why are the Phillies using the awful Joe Thurston as a pinch hitter? Maybe giving Conine some swings might be smart. update: beautiful out joe thurston
Vampiro69 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2006 Don't forget to include possible ROY choice Dan Uggla. He has been a major factor in the Marlins success this year.
vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2006 Oh well, Oswalt only gave up 4 hits, unfortunately three of them were back to back to back doubles. I don't mind that he won't get a win tonite. Hell, I won't mind if the Astros miss out on the playoffs this year, I just Roy Oswalt to be an Astro for a looooooooong time to come. As for ROTY, I'm sticking with Zimmerman. However, Prince Fielder's technically still a rookie, right? If so...he's gotta be in the running, too.
jwest27 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2006 Okay, I'll make the case for Pujols as MVP. 1. He is the best hitter in the majors this year. .323/.424/.665 He is even better with runners in scoring position: .398/.541/.776 2. He plays one of, if not the, best first base in the league. Yeah, it's first base and not centerfield or shortstop or something, but that has to count for something. 3. The rest of the team is just not very good. Rolen is good, Carpenter is good, Duncan has been surprisingly good for the short amount of time he's been playing, the rest are pretty much average to terrible. It's pretty scary to think about where this team would be without Pujols there, especailly when he quite literally carried the team the first month of the season. Although, truth be told, I wouldn't really be that upset if he didn't win. I'm just glad he finally won it last year. Damn Barry Bonds. Also, hey look Mark Mulder still sucks. Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2006 Well, Willy Taveras' hit streak is ending tonight, but a 7 run 8th inning for the Astros (highlighted by a Jason Lane Grand Slam) leads to a 10-3 Astros lead. Barring Lidge coming in to work the 9th, it should be an Astros win.
vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2006 It looks like Willy T's hit streak ends at 30. He's 0-3 w/ two HBP. It was fun, though. Also, the Astros scored 7 runs in the 8th inning, including a Lane grand slam. Edit: Yep. Roy Oswalt signed a 5 yr/$73 million deal with an option for a 6th year. Huzzah!
