Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2006 Jeter still has a little bit to go before he catches Mauer. The way Mauer is hitting he should pass him by Sunday. if they get these games in.
Guest Paul Report post Posted September 2, 2006 I don't think Mauer is going to hit this poorly for the rest of the year, though. Not too sure they'll play tomorrow.
tominator89 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2006 Yeah, that's why I always got confused...the dual Wachovia Arenas. Was the arena in Wilkes Barre formerly the Sovereign Center, or is that Reading? I went to a Reading Phillies game, once. It was much nicer than the Trop. It's actually the 10 year anniversary for the Wachovia Center in Philly. Formerly named for CoreStates Bank and First Union Center. The Wachovia Arena is in Wilkes-Barre in Casey Plaza, as Al mentioned. It was previously named First Union Arena. This is the home of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. WWE often tours here. The Sovereign Center is located in Reading. Hope that helps.
Guest Paul Report post Posted September 2, 2006 Cool, thanks. I've been to the CS Arena/FU Center/Wachovia Center many times, but never to the arena in Wilkes Barre.

Guest Paul Report post Posted September 2, 2006 It'll be interesting to see if the Yankees/Twins game goes down today. If it does, Villone is scheduled to start on Sunday. No Santana in this series?
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2006 So a day after both Murton and Theriot homered, Dusty's using that managerial brilliance by playing Pagan and Bynum today. Whether these four are in the team's long-term plans isn't really relevant; Dusty should be playing the hot hand right now. I guess a five-hit game followed by a multi-hit game (Theriot) doesn't qualify as being the hot-hand. Stupid racist Dusty.
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2006 Just let the Phillies play some baseball, god of drizzles.

EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2006 VICTORINO~! Double Play!
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2006 And Randall Simon debuts with a base hit. I don't think there's a player in baseball with worse plate discipline.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2006 Nats came back from something like 6-1 and won it in extras thanks to four walks. And crap, after an amazing at-bat, Theriot draws the walks and gets picked off. He won't start again for two weeks.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2006 Time for a riddle: If a pitcher is left handed, but is pitching worse against lefties, should you force feed him into lefty/lefty matchups? If you answered yes, you too can manage the Phillies. Long winded way of saying Arthur Rhodes blows.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2006 Time for a riddle: If a pitcher is left handed, but is pitching worse against lefties, should you force feed him into lefty/lefty matchups? If you answered yes, you too can manage the Phillies. Long winded way of saying Arthur Rhodes blows. That's just this year though. I would have every intention of thinking that was merely a sample fluke.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2006 His three year splits prior to this year don't really lend to a lefty/lefty advantage either. vs. LHP: .284 .336 .376 .712 vs. RHP: .229 .302 .395 .
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2006 Well, Mathieson lasted just six pitches, leaving for an undisclosed injury. It's up to Eude Brito, and we're already down 2-0.

UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2006 Just got home from Game 1 after travelling back & forth in the rain from Deptford and Philly throughout the day. Once again a big KISS MY ASS to Arthur Rhodes for his brilliant 9th inning. God I pray we can salvage a split.
Guest Paul Report post Posted September 3, 2006 So, the Yankees got beat in a rain shortened game. Glad I didn't watch. Tomorrow they'll start Darrell Rasner, instead of Villone, who was previously scheduled to start this game.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 I hope Beltran's just dinged up and that there's nothing seriously wrong with his knee. We didn't need that win as much as we need him for the playoff run.
Guest Paul Report post Posted September 3, 2006 I wouldn't worry about it too much.
vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 It was another ridiculously good game in Houston tonite. Just like last nite, errors hurt the Astros' chances of winning. Jason Hirsh pitched 6 good innings giving up 3 runs, but only one earned. Craig Biggio continues to own Billy Wagner. He's 3 for 3 in his career against him with a WC winning 3 run homerun last year and a double and a single this year. Beltran made an absolutely ridiculous catch. I hope he's not injured. I don't hate the guy or anything. I doubt he plays tomorrow. The Mets have a Hell of a team, but I'd be worried about their rotation come the postseason, especially if they make it to the WS, but then again, I don't like any National League team's shot in the WS. I like the Astros' chances for tomorrow with Roy O going against El Duque and his ridiculous delivery. I'm feelin' good going into the road trip to Philly, especially with the multitude of games the Phils are playing this weekend. Sorry if this was way too long and flowing. I'm still not as wordy as Homer, though.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 I knew this would happen. I had four guys starting today (Haren, Livan Hernandez, Josh Johnson and Ben Sheets), so I benched K-Rod. Naturally, those four starters got me two losses and two no decisions. K-Rod, meanwhile, came into a tied game that the Angels now lead by three, so it looks like the one guy who will get me a win today is on the bench. Stellar. Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 I was at both Phils games today. 2nd game was really fun (even though it started out like it was going to be a clunker), the 1st...not so much. I saw no reason to take out Madson in favor of Rhodes. My buddy & I looked at each other and just said "oh, shit" whan the move was made. A few pitches later, we just shook our heads. Well, Mathieson lasted just six pitches, leaving for an undisclosed injury. Don't know if the broadcast mentioned it, but the scoreboard put up "sprained albow" as the culprit. Neat factoid from game 1 - both of Utley's HR's were hit to the exact same spot (1 section over from us). They were grabbed by 2 people 1 row & 1 seat apart from each other. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 Michael Barrett to the DL with some groin injury. Sounds painful, so I'm not sure if he'll be back. Buck Coats has been recalled. Never mind Michael Restovich is rotting away in AAA, because everyone knows the Cubs needs 14 infielders on the roster. That said, Henry Blanco is playing first today. Dear god. UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 to quote someone from yesterday's posting about TODAY: VICTORINO!!!!!!!! DOUBLE PLAY!!!!! And oh yeah: FIFTHY for Ryan Howard! I'm upset we don't get Myers/Rocket tomorrow
vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 Me, too. Is Myers pitching the Houston series? And certainly, with all the doubleheaders over this weekend, the Phillies will want to give Ryan Howard a few days off to rest, right? Edit: Roy O's on his fuckin' game today. Through five innings...8 K..no walks...and the Mets have left 0 on base. Nobody tell ESPN.
