Guest wildpegasus Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 This is kind of a simple topic really. I have no idea if it'll catch on or not but it's worth a shot. Ever get caught by someone for not knowing who a famous person is and than playfully teased over it? Maybe you didn't know a certain musician or Tv star or sports star or politician. Share your experiences here. I'd share some of mine but I don't want the thread to start by people ridiculing me for not knowing someone and getting off topic. Once the thread gets off to a nice start than I might chime in later. Now remember, the more famous the better. Bonus points for people like Elvis or Bruce Lee.
Guest Princess Leena Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 This happens nearly every day with me, as I know basically no celebrities in movies, TV or music.
Hawk 34 Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 A better topic would be not knowing someone "famous" in person. I've had that moments before and that said famous person would act like I committed a crime for not knowing who they were. I was visiting my bouncer friend at a local club and some asshole from one of those trendy emo-bands, (Seether) whom just finished a set down the street came in and he assumed I was the bouncer and told me to take him to the VIP section and I simply looked at him and went "Who the hell are you?" and he went all prima donna and stormed out. After being told who he was, I still stood my ground and felt "Who the hell is he?".
Art Sandusky Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 I have no idea who most of the people on E! are at any given time. Same with "Best Week Ever." Is that even on still? I just yell "WHO CARES??" at the screen during such times.

Sure, if anyone wants to share any experiences of not knowing someone famous in person than feel free to share them.
The Metal Maniac Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 Whenever someone mentions the name of the most recent annoying pop musicians, I get a smug feeling of self-satisfaction for not knowing who the fuck they're talking about.
Art Sandusky Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 You know, this thread is going to end with us all wishing we weren't getting older.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 Name a rapper..I wouldn't have a clue. Im pretty bad with putting names to faces anyway so unless its someone who I've seen a million times Id probably have trouble coming up with the name anyway.
Guest Princess Leena Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 As for in person, I had a friend who hooked up with tons of local bands and such... they'd be all confident talking to me, and I had no idea who the fuck they were. Then they'd go on about their work, and I'm like get a real job you fucking hippie. I don't care.
2GOLD Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 You know, this thread is going to end with us all wishing we weren't getting older. I wish I was old enough to been friends with Frank Sinatra. Now that crazy dude knew what the hell a party was. And to this day, I feel bad I had no idea who Jude Law was. He didn't seem to mind too much, even gave me a nice conversation to pass the time. I think he liked the fact I either didn't know who the hell he was or if I did, I didn't act like he was a big deal.
Guest DRH 502 Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 LOL I live in Kentucky. I could give a fuck less about knowing someone famous. Although, true story, my dad built country singer Eddie Rabbit's house in South Carolina. Crazyness. My dad actually built beach front homes for lots of wealthy/semi-famous people on like Kiolwa (SP), Seabrook, and a few other obscure islands on the South Carolina coast.
Art Sandusky Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 Kiawah. Those barrier islands are some of the most repulsive places I've ever seen. Disgusting people.
Hank Kingsley Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 I thought Tom Jane was a homeless guy once. He just wanted his kids back.
Jingus Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 I worked at a movie theater one time. This one hot Saturday in the middle of summer, we had some people call in sick so there were only three of us in the whole lobby; me and a chick working the concessions, and the manager in the ticket booth. Well, since it's a weekend and the theater was next to an always-crowded mall and we only had one guy selling tickets, we naturally grew a long line out front of the building. And suddenly out of nowhere this random old woman charged back behind the concessions stand and started screaming at us, that the line outside was too long and we're working too slow and she wants to talk to the manager RIGHT NOW. Me: "The manager is the guy selling tickets. Neither of us know how to run those registers, and nobody else is here." So she gets pissed and storms out. I had to be told by others that the crazy bitch was the mom in the Judds... either Wynona or Naomi, I don't know which and still don't care.
Guest Fook Posted August 30, 2006 Report Posted August 30, 2006 Name a rapper..I wouldn't have a clue. That's pretty much me. So often I get "You don't know this song?" or "You've never heard of *blank*?"

tominator89 Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 I met some Star Trek cast members at a hotel and I had no clue who they were.
Lt. Al Giardello Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 My cousin is a pretty big rapper in Canada. Anyone who knows the Hip Hop scene in Canada or live in Toronto or Montreal problay heard of her... Tara Chase. Also Blade Hart(Bret Hart's son) went to my high school. I've met a few celebrity's mostly sports stars and wrestlers, since childhood here's who I met that I remember: Jarome Iginla, Bobby Orr, Warren Moon, Batista, Chris Benoit, Bret Hart, Owen Hart, Undertaker, Shelton Benjamin, Eric Bischoff, George Chuvalo, Jean Pascal, Lucien Bute, Patrick Cote.
Corey_Lazarus Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 I still have no fucking what songs The Game has ever released, or half of the shitty-ass bands played on the radio. And I like that.
ZGangsta Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 I thought Tom Jane was a homeless guy once. He just wanted his kids back. Well met. Once I was in a club and ran into one of my friends who had been doing some sound work there earlier that night. So we were talking when one of the club owners comes over and starts talking to him and then this girl and her crew comes and sits down with us and eventually her and my buddy start talking and arguing over politics, and I'm just sitting there for a long time thinking to myself "dude, that's Nelly Furtado and he doesn't realize it." It was funny, he was being a total dick to her. I also almost knocked over Shawn Michaels in an airport and didn't realize who he was until my buddy pointed it out after we'd walked down the hallway.
Guest Vitamin X Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 So, she wasn't as promiscuous as advertised.
Guest DRH 502 Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 Sex Machine Gun? What school did you go to in Elementary school? I left SC after Elementary but I spent like 3 years at Harbor View then 2 and a half or so at E.B. Ellington in Ravanel.

I had to be told by others that the crazy bitch was the mom in the Judds... either Wynona or Naomi, I don't know which and still don't care. Not that you care...it would have been Naomi. My story...couple of months ago I'm with some friends at a bar for my friend Victoria's birthday...apparently they have some celebrity shuffled through and he has a bodyguard and a few other hangers-on with him. I have just gotten my beer poured and get distracted for a second talking to the owner's husband (I went to high school with the owner). I turn around and the bodyguard and another guy are blocking the path to my beer. I ask to get through...no one moves. The owner's husband tries to get him to move...I say to the guy..."Yo, no-neck! I just want my beer and I'm off to my own little corner!" He and the guy he's with give me a dirty look but move aside, I grab my beer and move on. Bar owner's husband tells me the guy I just referred to as No-Neck was Cubs first baseman Derek Lee (in Des Moines on a rehab assignment). I tell him I'm a Cardinals fan and don't give a shit.
Ravenbomb Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 Bonus points for people like Elvis or Bruce Lee. Who?

One of my friends' father worked at Harbor View. Robert Raffield, if the name is somewhat familiar.
Slayer Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Another SC native? At least your title of "only good poster from SC" is secure
Guest Felonies! Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 BX and Crandamaniac are cool.
PLAGIARISM! Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 It won't interest non-Brits, but I met snooker legend John Virgo in a hotel bar at roughly 3am, fucked off his face, and upon his request gave him my badge that reads 'FUCK YOU YOU FUCKING FUCK'. He wasn't wearing it on TV the next day. My friend asked him if he'd heard of Tindersticks (his opening line with everyone) and he started off on how he knows the guy from Jethro Tull.
