EVIL~! alkeiper Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Jorge Posada hit a second 3-run homer in the 8th. And given that it's a Yankee catcher, I can't resist saying it's deja vu all over again.
vivalaultra Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Damn, Willy T. made a HELL of a throw from the warning track to throw Jimmy Rollins out at second. Willy's made some good throws, but that was...Ichiro like. And I'd be willing to bet the Marlins get to the WS before 2011. I'd be surprised if they don't get to it in the next 3 years. Hell, it's not unthinkable to think they might get there this year. Not likely, but...not unthinkable.
mike546 Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Scott Proctor is pitching in a EIGHT TO NOTHING GAME. WHAT. THE. FUCK.
vivalaultra Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Gotta get him ready for the stretch drive and the postseason. Wouldn't want him to get rusty.
Bruiser Chong Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Damn, I wish I didn't have a bye in my fantasy league this week. I've got Posada AND Teixeira on my team. Five homers and 14 RBI for my team today alone. They'll suck ass next week.
Guest NYankees Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Scott Proctor is pitching in a EIGHT TO NOTHING GAME. WHAT. THE. FUCK. Villones arm is falling off so it's only natural that it is now Proctors turns.
naiwf Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 I'm gonna catch heat for this, no doubt, but I'd be willing to bet they make the WS before 2011. Haven't you've said that the Marlins would be winning the WS by 2008, so why would you catch heat for this?
Mik Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 I actually never said that. Someone (not sure if it was your or not) with no reading comprehension skills misconstrued me saying that would be in the thick of things as soon as 2008 to mean WS and then that same person ran with it.
KingPK Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Man, watching Annibal get that last out -- with Hanley Ramirez making the putout to boot -- made me throw up in my mouth a little. Oh yeah, Cla Meredith extended his scoreless inning streak.
UseTheSledgehammerUh Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Eric Byrnes looked kinda safe on the final out of the no-hitter. ESPN refuses thus far to show a slow-mo or up close play of him over the bag. I'm sure Woody Paige or Michael Wilbon will be all over it tomorrow.
Guest Princess Leena Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 I'm gonna catch heat for this, no doubt, but I'd be willing to bet they make the WS before 2011. Why 2011. None of the good Marlins on the team currently will be there then. I love no-nos. But, Sanchez giving up 4 walks is a bit too much for me to laud it as a great accomplishment. Plus, Byrnes may have been safe.
UseTheSledgehammerUh Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Byrnes is SO safe. I'm convinced of it after seeing SportsCenter like 3 times tonight. Watch that foot.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Byrnes was out by about six inches.
Fökai Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 I'm gonna catch heat for this, no doubt, but I'd be willing to bet they make the WS before 2011. I love no-nos. But, Sanchez giving up 4 walks is a bit too much for me to laud it as a great accomplishment. It's also four walks away from a perfect game. To me, I'm amazed at any game that's a two-hitter or below. Anyone remember watching their first no-hitter? I thought about it today and after a bit of research on dates, it was Chris Bosio in April 1993. They played the final inning live on SportsCenter that night, and Bosio's celebration is about all I can remember.
CanadianChris Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Mine was Dave Stewart's no-no against Toronto in 1990. Strangely enough, I then got to see three more within the next year or so -- Dave Stieb in September of that year (finally), and Nolan Ryan's seventh against the Jays and Dennis Martinez's perfect game for the Expos against L.A. in 1991.
The Man in Blak Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Byrnes was out by about six inches. Maybe I need to see it from a different angle. From the three-quarters view of the baseline to the plate, it looks like a tie at worst, but that angle may also give the impression that Byrnes had more of a lead than he may have had in reality.
Guest NYankees Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 I watched Jim Abbot and Doc Gooden throw a no hitter. I was able to watch Wells in 1998 and Cone in 1999 throw a perfect game. The worst was watching Mussina get within a strike against the red sox on the Sunday before Labor Day in 2001. Fucking Jurrasic Crazy Carl of all people had to be the one to break up the Perfect Game.
Slayer Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Nolan Ryan #6 against Oakland in 1990
Guest NYankees Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Man, watching Annibal get that last out -- with Hanley Ramirez making the putout to boot -- made me throw up in my mouth a little. Oh yeah, Cla Meredith extended his scoreless inning streak. Lets not forget about Bard. Since the trade, the switch-hitting catcher is hitting .328 with a .409 OBP and a .522 slugging percentage in 186 at bats. I think Doug Mirrabelli is hitting .188.

They played the final inning live on SportsCenter that night, and Bosio's celebration is about all I can remember. It was the July 4th '83 Dave Righetti game. I know the date because I've only seen the YES network re-air it about 100 times.
Guest Jimbo Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Yay for the no hitter, but how about those Florida fans!
vivalaultra Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 My first no-hitter was Mike Scott's against the Giants at the Astrodome to clinch the NL West title in '86. I was a spry...3 years 9 months old. From what I recollect, it was a pretty well-pitched game. My absolute favorite no-hitter of all time was the 6-pitcher no-hitter that Roy Oswalt, Pete Munro, Kirk Saarloos, Brad Lidge, Octavio Dotel, and Billy Wagner dealt to the Yankees June 11, 2000. That was great. It woulda been better if Munro hadn't walked 3 or 4 batters. Then it woulda been a perfect game. But, oh well..
Bruiser Chong Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 You've got to be pretty awful to lose nine of 15 to the Pirates. At this point, I'm pretty sure there will be another Great Chicago Fire if they extend Dusty. He's getting booed everytime he pops out of the dugout these days.
Brett Favre Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Damn, I wish I didn't have a bye in my fantasy league this week. I've got Posada AND Teixeira on my team. Five homers and 14 RBI for my team today alone. They'll suck ass next week. Same thing is happening with me with Posada. And Randy Johnson too.
devo Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Man I wish MLB.tv would stop shoving Tom Petty down my throat every time there's a commercial break.
naiwf Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Penny's getting rocked (4 straight hits), but a stupid baserunning effort by LoDuca and a bad jump by Beltran means it's only 1-0 with 1 out and men on 2nd and 3rd instead of 3-0 with 0 out.
naiwf Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 The most electrifying man in all of MLB (Reyes) just hit a 3 run inside the park HR to pretty much seal the deal tonight, 7-0 over LA. Whoever's playing center for the Dodgers really needs to find another position because he sucks.
vivalaultra Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 My sister just informed me that last nite Andyball Suertos of the Florida Martians threw a "none-hitter" to beat the Arizona Diamonds. Congrats, Andyball!
Bruiser Chong Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 Ryan Howard's gonna have to start peeing in a cup pretty soon.
Mik Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 He's a beast, that's for sure. The whole talk of him being the home run king if he hits 62 drives me absolutely ballistic, though.
