Wii

Recommended Posts

I wonder who runs that site?

vgcharts.org says 6.21m for the 360, 1.7m for the Wii and 590,000 for the PS3. In the US, the Wii has been selling faster than the 360 did at its launch. In Japan, the Wii has already sold close to 3x as many units as the 360 has sold in its entire existence.

Oh, and it appears that the PS3 has outsold the XBox 360 in Japan now, despite ridiculously small hardware shipments. Fancy that.

Anyone know when the next Wii shipments will be in stores? If I have to wait in line to buy my own damn Christmas present I might just do it.

Target will be recieving their 3rd and FINAL guaranteed shipments the week of the 17th.

And I snagged a set of Component Cables today at Best Buy for 24.99. Zelda and Wii Sports look fantastic!

The Cables I saw at Best Buy were 60 fucking bucks! I couldnt believe it. I asked the sales guy if that was a misprint and he said something like.."they're very hard to find".

Meh. Best Buy also has other component cables for $30. There's no difference except for extra shielding, which really isn't necessary. It's the same as paying 5x for Monster cables.

Yeah, my Best Buy had only one of those 60 dollar Uber cables left when I got my el cheapo ones. And since I'm a complete toolbox now, I picked up some of those neoprene controller gloves. They add a little "bulk" to the Wiimote and definately make it easier to grip. If you're having some gripping issues, might want to consider picking one up. The only downside is the price for them, which is between 9.99 to 14.99 depending where you buy it.

This week's release of Virtual Console games is easily the strongest yet. Already got Gunstar, probably gonna get Alien Crush. On the fence about Ice Hockey.

I got Gunstar and Alien Crush. Gunstar is of course terrific (and seems to have cleaner sound here than the original game). Alien Crush is pretty good but do you actually get to progress to other tables? I'm not quite clear on how it works exactly.

Ice Hockey is a classic.

are the component cables for the Wii just your standard cables or are they made specifically for the Wii i.e. there's a special attachment that plugs into the Wii rather than the orange, green and blue inputs?

Special for the Wii, and they're different from the GC component cables.

VC releases were just those 4; thankfully they were all much better choices than last week's.

BTW, after skimming through the ESRB page, you folks should be interested to know that Kirby's Adventure, Kid Icarus, Pro Wrestling and Punch-Out! all have been rated, thus probably are coming soon.

Probably next week will include, at the least, Dungeon Explorer, which was hinted at by Hudson on their page as coming soon.

does this have s-video hook up as well or is it just the red, white, yellow cables? I have like 3 s-video cables laying around collecting dust...of course, let me guess, they have to be Wii specific too?

All consoles have to do that, silly. :P

Meh, I'll just wait until there's a bunch of 3rd party ones that will have connections for every current-gen console for like $10-15.

I'm heading out to Fred Meyer tomorrow at 5:00 AM, an hour before opening. Wish me luck.

Have you heard anything about stores saving Wii's for a Wednesday?

If not, I wouldn't get your hopes up...

Fred Meyer's puts out their ad on Wenesday, and everything goes on special then. Someone I used to work with has a brother who's on night crew and says that they'll have them then, but he couldn't reserve one so I have to trek out. Supposedly, someone told me that they've had a line out there every Wenesday morning whether they have systems or not.

Completely eliminates any Rare games coming out, according to Microsoft. The exception is Goldeneye, as the James Bond rights are owned by Activision.

What about the abortion of game Donkey Kong 64?

Donkey Kong is owned by Nintendo, so I think they can put out the games on the VC just because they own the rights to Donkey Kong. Espically since Donkey Kong country ports were being put on the GBA after Rare was bought by Microsoft.

DK and all of the Rare DKC characters are owned by Nintendo.

Banjo and crew (including Conker), Killer Instinct, Jet Force Gemini, etc are owned by Rare.

I assume that all of the Dinosaur Planet characters are Nintendo's, since they've been using Krystal since the split.

OT but Im surprised RARE hasn't done a Killer Instict game for the 360.

I still listen to the CD that came with the game too.

JFG was horrible so thats not a big loss.

and it kinda sucks RARE owns the Banjo franchise cause you know they wont do anything with it for the 360...
