Looks like I got mine just in time. Why not just buy the USB wifi connector?

 

I personally found it to be an utter POS. Or maybe it was just WinXP. Hard to tell.

RE4 Wii is the goods. Obviously people knew what to expect as far as the gameplay goes, but the controls were well done and make for a better game in my opinion. Dealing with large groups of enemies is a lot better because you can aim a lot faster and more accurate with the remote, and it's easier to get headshots and the like. The only negative is that the camera is more of a pain to manipulate as the d-pad controls the camera, which means you have to frequently move your thumb between that and the A button, but it's not a big deal. All of the other button placements feel very comfortable, moreso than the previous versions of the game. And given that it has the extras of the PS2 version and the better graphics/non-crappiness of the GameCube version, it's worth picking up even if you have either of those versions.

I plan on getting it. I never bought it for the GC or PS2 because I never got into the previous RE games. The controls of previous games turned me off from the series. But I played a bit of it on the PS2 and was totally blown away. This was right up my alley and was going to buy it until I found out a Wii was coming out. I'm psyched to hear the controls are intuitive. At $30 it might be the bargain of the year.

 

I'll definitely try out the Godfather and Scarface games. Sounds like tons of fun.

I never really bothered with RE4 because (sad as this is) I don't like change too much and I didn't like the "no zombies, 3rd person action shooter" that RE4 seemed to be.

 

But I feel now is the time to give it a try so I plan on doing so.

You should give it a go, for sure. I was skeptical with the no zombies thing at first too... but it's a pretty cool twist. These villagers are mindless servants, almost akin to zombies in a way. The game just has more of an Omega Man feel to it than the usual zombie genre film.

The villagers look and act like zombies, so it's not a big deal really. It seems like more of an action game because the control isn't as awful at it was in the first few games, so killing stuff isn't a giant pain in the ass. The series would have been better off if all the games had that kind of control. It's still not a run and gun action game though, as the characters still aren't very mobile and can't shoot on the run. Playing it with the Wiimote is just great though, as not having to struggle to aim with a gamepad makes these sort of games exponentially more playable.

Received my copy. The Wii controls really give new life to this game. Kills are a little easier, but you can still get overwhelmed if you're not playing it strategically. Looking forward to unlocking the Mercenaries mini-game and checking that out with the Wii controls!

Could you elaborate?

 

How would waggle work? Does it even have enough buttons to support the game? If it uses the nunchuck it would likely involve using the d-pad on the wiimote for punches and kicks...weak.

Hey guys.

 

Before I ask anything, can I please not be told to 'read the thread' for answers, because with all due respect, it's 84 pages long.

 

And it's 4.15am.

 

I only got a Wii yesterday for the first time (I'd been out of work until recently) and I got Sonic, Pirates and Zelda. I've only played Wii Sports so far, I just wanted to know:

 

Is there a normal controller you can use to play Zelda on the Wii? I know you can get retro controllers, but I didnt know if that was just for the downloadable retro games. I just dont fancy the idea of using the wii-mote on Zelda. I'll give it a go in the morning anyway.

 

I don't have wireless, I just have a cable modem. The modem has Ethernet, can't I just connect it up that way? I'm guessing not, what do I need to do/get?

For the internet, you need a wireless router or USB-Wireless adapter. Router is apparently almost as cheap as the adapter and more useful, so I'd go for that.

 

Can't use a regular controller for the Wii version of TP. Some games do let you use either a Cube/Classic controller or the Wiimote, just not that one. It's really pretty decent with the Wiimote anyway. The only problem I encountered was the unresponsiveness of the nunchuk for doing the spin-slash. Other than that it's competent, or even better than a regular controller (such as when you need to aim arrows or whatever).

I don't think that works. I think it's only for connecting cameras or the like.

 

A wireless router is just something you connect to your dsl or cable modem, and it allows you to connect other devices to the internet connection, like another PC or a game console. Not too hard to setup or anything.

No, the USB dongle is used as an access point. The Wii has Wi-Fi hardware to connect to one. The Wii only gets internet over wi-fi or through an ethernet if a LAN adapter is used. No USB internet support.

 

I personally suggest a wireless router. The dongle had a lot of conflicts for me with my firewalls and just my computer in general. A wireless router is pretty much no fuss, no muss. Just make *certain* you set it up with WEP. You can also probably get a wireless router for about the same or less than the dongle, and it has more uses.

 

Of course, you could bypass all of that and use a LAN adapter that connects to Wii's USB port and gives you an ethernet port, but if you have a DS you might as well get yourself wi-fi capability.

Your network would then be set up this way:

 

Modem --(Ethernet Cable)--> LAN adapter --(USB cable)--> Wii

 

I don't think it has to be a LAN adapter specifically for the Wii, any should work. I can't confirm that it will, though. It has multiple USB ports to so you can connect up your computer, etc.?

 

The alternatives are:

 

Modem --(Ethernet Cable)--> PC w/ USB dongle ))-wireless-)) Wii

 

Modem --(Ethernet Cable)--> Wireless Router ))-wireless-)) Wii

 

Some folks may have a modem/router combination with wireless capabilities, and wouldn't need anything extra, but that's relatively rare, I think.

I've seen them at EB/Gamestop, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. However, I don't know if it's the same way for UK, so I'd call around first.

You can either buy a Wii Points card in a store, and enter the code on your internet-connected Wii to register the points to the Wii to redeem them, or you can buy them through the Wii Shop with a credit card. Wii-Points cards are only available in 2000 pt increments for right now (20 USD is the cost). You can purchase them with a credit card through Wii Shop in 1000 point increments.

 

EDIT: Wikipedia says this for UK:

(A 2000 Wii Point card is) £14.99 in the UK. Wii Points can be bought from retailers or purchased online directly from Nintendo. In the UK, buying Wii Points online is cheaper than buying them on Points cards, at £7 per 1000 points.

Did you create the Mii already through the Mii Channel? You have to do it there, you can't do that from within Wii Sports.

Not really. You can back up your VC games and *some* (but mysteriously, not all) saves. That requires a firmware update, though. I wouldn't worry about it yet.

 

EDIT: Oh, I forgot to mention that SD cards allow you to use custom soundtracks on Excite Truck. It also lets you view photos through the Photo Channel. Not exactly "need" but worth knowing if you are interested.
