Today on the VC:

Final Fight-SNES-800 points

Ordyne-TG-16-600 points

If you're like me and had no idea what Ordyne is, it's a side-scrolling shooter. whatta surprise. On a related note, am I the only person here who has never seen a TurboGrafx-16 in person?

Mighty Bomb Jack (NES) is also out on VC today. It was just hidden underneath CastleVania.

I may just get Ordyne because I hear it's actually pretty good. Of course, I also did the same thing about Splatterhouse and I really want my 600 points back.

I actually remember playing Mighty Bomb Jack as a kid, and I think it was hard as hell...or it could have been easy as hell. I just remember playing it.

Funny. I can't remember either. I think I beat it. But I don't remember fighting a boss. Just beating the last level and walking out the pyramid. And I can't remember if I enjoyed the game or not. Just that I played it.

I'm thinking of picking up a few more VC titles. Out of this list, what platformers would you recommend that I'm considering?

Ristar

Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle

Wonder Boy in Monster World

New Adventure Island

Dragon's Curse

Bravoman

Also, for a space shooter, would you recommend Gradius III or R-Type III or something different? And is Beyond Oasis worth it if I enjoy Zelda, Secret of Evermore, and Illusion of Gaia?

Don't get New Adventure Island. It isn't that much fun, really obnoxious character designs, and gets old really quick, especially with the one hit kills. Pass that bitch.

Wonder Boy in Monster World is a lot of fun, and has some really tough parts. I'd probably recommend it.

Guest Queen Leelee

Stay away from that Alex Kidd game. The Master System Alex Kidd games were better.

Beyond Oasis is always worth it.

Dragon's Curse is really good. Ristar is very good but if you can get it on Sonic Mega Collection + or Sega Genesis Collection go for that.

New Adventure Island is decentish but the NES games are far better IMO. Beyond Oasis is good and it isn't on another current compilation.

Anyone familiar with Sega's light gun arcade game Ghost Squad? They announced they are porting it to Wii.

When that comes to the Wii, I might consider picking it up. I played it a few times in the arcade before.

and today's vc games are:

Pac-Man® (NES®, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points): Move Pac-Man through the maze, avoiding ghosts and eating all the Pac-Dots. Beware, each of the ghosts behave differently. When Pac-Man chomps a Power Pellet, he becomes invincible and is able to eat the blue ghosts. The more ghosts Pac-Man eats in a row, the higher the score. Don't forget to eat the bonus fruit too. Released in 1980, Pac-Man is the most well-known video game on Earth and is also commonly acknowledged as one of the most successful coin-operated games in history. Enjoy this masterpiece of gaming history today.

Ninja Gaiden™ (NES®, 1 player, 500 Wii Points): Players take on the role of Ryu Hayabusa, a rising warrior in his family's clan whose main role in the world is to protect the Dark Dragon Blade from falling into the hands of evil. Ryu travels to America to seek vengeance for his father's death. Players fight their way through 14 challenging side-scrolling levels while defeating gangs of street thugs, battling evil ninjas and fighting barbarian bosses by using the deadly Dragon Sword, ninja skills and Ninpo (ninja magic). Players can run, crouch, jump and climb as they make their way through each stage and collect items to gain points, strength and weapons.

Ninja Spirit (TurboGrafx16, 1-2 players, 600 Wii Points): Ninja Spirit is a side-scrolling action game that amazed the gaming world with its precision graphics and quality game play. Play as the ninja Moonlight and engage in a fierce battle to avenge his father's death and unlock the secrets of his birth. Select between the original ARCADE MODE and PC-ENGINE MODE, which includes a life gauge. Use four types of weapons: katana, shuriken, bombs and chain and sickles to battle your way through the enemies. Pick up power-up items and switch between weapons to give you the advantage. You'll need to consider the enemy attacks and your weapon's abilities in order to deftly make it through all seven stages. Use your skills and attacks to get through the game's boundless enemies and traps. That's what ninja action is all about.

Effin Ninja Gaiden yo.... I loved that game as a kid and felt proud when i beat it cuz its one of those games that are almost impossible.

I would probably pay $5 for an arcade perfect version of Pac-Man, but if memory serves this is not an arcade perfect version. It's no 2600 version, but still bad... I think. Truth be told I only played the Gameboy version (which had the maze scroll up and down).

Trivia note: The 2600 version of Pac-Man is where TV shows get their "stock video game sound effects" noises from.

I thought it was the 2600 version of Donkey Kong.

Checking it on wiki:

"The sound effects from Pac-Man on the 2600 are often used as stock sound effects in film and television to illustrate a game being played in the background of a scene, even if the game being shown is a different one on the Atari 2600 or even a different game console or arcade game"

I remember that sometimes it was ridiculously easy to beat those guys and some times not. Basically its doing that flip thing and guessing which way they were going to turn as you came out of it. guess right and you would fuck them up, guess wrong and they would be right back on your ass.

That game ruled. Did either one of the Gamecube Starfox's come close to its kickassness, because if so, i might have to go and pick it up.

Anyone shitting on $5 Ninja Gaiden shouldn't be in a Nintendo thread.

WWM is the Canadian Atagonist (as Slayer called him) so it's ok.

I don't think he was talking about me, as I never mentioned Ninja Gaiden. Unless the guy is.. uh, nevermind.

I don't know what that means but, in a thread unrelated to anything in the darkest corners of the forum, you were called "Canadian Antagonist World's Worst Man". The convo was about how, if someone with apostrophe-s in their handle is quotes, it will just say "World".

Also, I just misread what you said (though I assume the Ninja Gaiden comment was towards you since you called all the VC titles and pricing insane).

Agreed. But it's fun to pretend some people aren't totally brain-dead.

Tomb Raider: Anniversary to Wii + best line ever, via Joystiq

In news that is sure to set tongues wagging and arms waggling, IGN reports that Lara Croft will soon raid a more modern tomb -- your Wii's game shelf. In a press release issued by an international Eidos branch, Tomb Raider: Anniversary is stated as being in development for Nintendo's popular console. Previously, the remake was only slated for release on the PC (including GameTap), PlayStation 2 and PSP.

Was there ever a Tomb Raider game on a non-GameBoy Nintendo console before?

Also, I never saw the appeal of the Ninja Gaiden series. I might be getting it confused with Shinobi, though. I get all generic ninja games mixed up.
