Guest Felonies! Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 In memory of our fallen comrade, here's Aging Hippie Marvin.
tominator89 Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 I'm surprised there hasn't been a Skinhead version of Marv.
JangoFett4Hire Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 I don't think a community has lost this many virgins since the Middle Ages!
Guest Felonies! Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 Shouldn't that be McGovern '72? He was in the '68 primaries, wasn't he? Somebody nominated him at the Chicago Convention From Hell. I think it was the same guy that Daley called a stupid kike.
JangoFett4Hire Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 Whatever, dude, it's still funny. I think that one trumps the emo marvin.
snuffbox Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 McGovern became the choice of the liberal/dove/Bobby Kennedy group after Bobby was killed (Gene McCarthy couldn't seem to come to terms with Bobby's side, and Hubert Humphrey was frowned upon by any decent person) in 1968, but didn't run in the primaries. His efforts (and McCarthy's) drew the ire of LBJ's meatpuppet in Chicago, Dick Daley...that convention was the ultimate domestic abyss of the 1960s. McGovern would lead a reform of the nomination process over the next couple of years and rode a wave of brilliant grassroots campaigning to the Dem nomination in 1972. During the general election however the Dem Party couldn't quite bring itself together for McGovern, and his staff led by Gary Hart were not in the same league as Nixon's crew. The hippies as a bloc did not vote for, or support, McGovern (or anybody else). Funny picture, though.
Guest Felonies! Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 Endorsing the wrong candidate just makes it better. Marvin was ahead of his time.
DrVenkman PhD Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 Leena's point was a pretty good one, though. I generally steer clear of threads people start about themselves to complain about their life so I only know about his thoughts on wrestling and video games, and I'm generally not one to say bad things about people I barely know, but "I had to blow off the date I wanted badly because I wouldn't get to go to an amusement park in the fall on a specific date without changing it to another date" may be the dumbest thing I've heard in months. No disrespect, of course.
Guest Princess Leena Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 I don't see how he could even be offended at what I said. Because it's true. And he basically knows it.
The Niggardly King Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 That's why he's offended.
Hawk 34 Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 That's why we have blogs, to randomly spew shit. It was one thing to have that one specific thread about him but he needed to go to every thread and remind us about his failures. I think the signs were clear that Marvin was just losing it for good, and after his (gimmick) in crime got booted, he realized he was alone here as he is in life. Leena's (true) words, were just the snapping point for Marvin. He'll be back.
2GOLD Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 The Lesson: Never reveal how utterly pathetic you feel your life is and expect us to hug you.
Maztinho Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 Hippie Marvin and Hockey Marvin are good. But Riverboat Captain Marvin? That's GOLD, BABY!!! I'll miss Marv, he was a solid poster, with little concept of hooking up with chicks.
Open the Muggy Gate Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 It's The Chocolate Socket! ANYTHING GOES!
Guest Montresor Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 3) Oblivious toolbox DVDVR's residential [sic] TSM-hater?
Art Sandusky Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 He really started going overboard with the constant fatalism dripping from every post, but you motherfuckers started acting mean. Why the need to tear down and not build up?
Guest Princess Leena Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 I wasn't being mean to Marvin. I really feel bad for him. But, I'm of the belief that honesty is the only way to get through to people. Not bullshit niceness.
Art Sandusky Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 With someone that fargone in the confidence and self-image department, the last thing you need to do is be honest. I see where you're coming from, but Marvin was at absolute rock bottom. On his end, the worst thing he could have done was start a thread about his woman problems. Well, here anyway.
treble Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 Do people at DVDVR talk about TSM as much as we talk about them here?
Black Lushus Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 I'm of the belief that if you want something in life, you gotta do what you gotta do to get it...Marvin couldn't get into that concept so fuck him. So what if a chick turns him down...there's someone out there for him, he just won't try hard enough to find her. "Marvin, I want to marry you...this Saturday, let's get married, you're the man I've always dreamed of" "Can't, gotta go to Hershey Park, sorry!"
Slayer Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 Next Saturday, Marvin's gonna avoid the possibility of doing it.
Hawk 34 Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 I'm of the belief that if you want something in life, you gotta do what you gotta do to get it...Marvin couldn't get into that concept so fuck him. "Marvin, I want to marry you...this Saturday, let's get married, you're the man I've always dreamed of" "Can't, gotta go to Hershey Park, sorry!" What always got me is that Marvin had so many chances at some decent enough girls but he always found some creative(sad) way to escape it. He had more chances then some guys ever get, despite being...well, him.
EricMM Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 The thing is that for all his whining about his Alopecia, there are worse things. I mean, for instance, there is a woman at my work building that also suffers from AT LEAST total head Alopecia, and possibly total body Alopecia. Its a far less normal thing for a woman to be totally bald, especially a white woman, than a man.
Guest Felonies! Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 WHY DIDN'T HE JUST GO ON A DATE WITH HER TO THE AMUSEMENT PARK, THEN. You see the girl, and you get to go to the park that is evidently so important to you that you're perfectly content going alone. Who goes to amusement parks alone, anyway? Whenever I'd go to Great America it'd be in groups of like six or eight. He doesn't even strike me as the rollercoaster type of guy, nor does Hershey Park strike me as the rollercoaster type of park, so what in the wide world of sports is the fucking POINT of this excursion?
DrVenkman PhD Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 With someone that fargone in the confidence and self-image department, the last thing you need to do is be honest. I see where you're coming from, but Marvin was at absolute rock bottom. On his end, the worst thing he could have done was start a thread about his woman problems. Well, here anyway. Player had a date as well as a trip to a baseball game and an amusement park lined up. That's far from rock bottom. While I understand the baseball game (I also would have to decline any plans if someone asked me about for the weekend as I'll be going on a pre-paid road trip to a Tigers game), I don't get the amusement park and that was his own fault. It wasn't Leena's for calling out how dumb it was.
Black Lushus Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 no doubt...simply asking "hey, wanna go?" was just so so easy and it was RIGHT THERE
Guest Felonies! Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 And the worst part is, the guy is always on the verge of a different girl like every three days. Doing better than I am, and I have eyebrows.
