the max 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2006 Jays avoid the sweep against the Yankees, but Halladay left with an apparently injured pitching arm. I swear I'm thisclose to burning the Halladay jersey. Some sort of weird voodoo thing going on. Imagine what kind of voodoo my Josh Beckett authentic jersey has... Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2006 Again, I was mostly talking about the over-the-top reactions of WFAN callers, not the celebration by the players But yeah, seeing the Yankees celebrate with champagne after LOSING to the Blue Jays basically makes me feel like an asshole. I should have just kept my mouth shut

NYU 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2006 I think everybody hates A-Rod because he just doesn't know how to show poise during a baseball celebration. Hey, A-Rod, this is only the division title! Mattingly pumped his fist and hit the ground when he won the wild card. Do the same, buddy.

CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2006 Papi tied the Red Sox club record for HRs in a season last night. MFer 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2006 the tigers wonder why they are slumping? they continue to field neifi perez & matt stairs in spite of having more talented younger stars on the bench. hey fuckers, if you won with marcus thames & omar infante, PLAY THEM. They weren't really winning with Infante; they were winning with Polanco. Infante's a marginal upgrade over Neifi. And Matt Stairs has been with the Tigers for five games, played in four and has a whopping 12 official at-bats. Stop reaching for straws; the Tigers were faltering long before last Friday. If you call Infante's .284 BA and .743 OPS vs. Perez's .193 BA and .507 OPS a marginal upgrade, I don't know what to tell you. Trust me, Tigers fans would have Omar in the lineup over Neifi in a heartbeat. After last night's win, it looks like Detroit's safely in the playoffs. Whether they win the division remains to be seen.
Open the Muggy Gate 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2006 My local team, the AA West Tenn Diamond Jaxx just lost their Cubs affiliation. The best thing we ever had here was that we got to see Mark Prior before he went to the big leagues... and no one still came to the games. I'm kinda glas we lost it. Pretty pathetic for a minor league team out here.

Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2006 actually I found the celebrating to be quite fun. Why not celebrate? everyone else does it? sure they lost but hey its a relase of frustartion and tension form the whole season. It was a hard road and they really had to overcome a lot more they have had to recently with all the injuries and controversies with alex the partyying it was mostly that crazy due to the younger guys being there. Cano, and Melk being the chief partiers Though Randy Johnson stuck out like a sore thumb, being so tall and all (and I have never seen him that loose in his yankee stint , I mean he was actually similing and pouring beer on people ;he kept doing that to YES' Kim Jones for some reason, I think he likes her ) But then he gets all serious in his interview and mentions that they still have to clinch home-field advantage cuz its really important and all sure this is just the first step, but its fun for now and I wish espn and ny media would get off the alex talk, its a real bad time for this crap. Alex needs to learn to not talk to the media so much and choose your words wisely, too got to love it as yankee fan, as a hater, well thats your problem I suppose It's a celebration bitches come one, 7 wins away from the big dance and lets go mets, we want you in october

The last thing I want to do is defend Neifi, but you're out of your mind if you think Neifi being there has caused the collapse of the Detroit Tigers. Trust me, these guys are still faltering with Omar god damn Infante at second. FWIW, the Tigers are still playing under .500 in the games Infante's appeared in since the Neifi deal. As annoying as it is to see Neifi in the lineup, like with the Cubs, the problems are deeper than just his presence.
Guest NYankees Report post Posted September 21, 2006 Sarcasm mode: The Yankees celebrated due to the fact that they were expected to make it to the Playoffs. Imagine having all that pressure put on you once the World Series is over and you are the team that is supposed to win your division and missing the playoffs is considered nothing but failure. The Yankees were allowed to celebrate due to that it was a huge sigh of relief for them. Sarcasm ends. They are allowed to celebrate due to the fact that it is a Celebration bitches. I wish the Red Sox had won yesterday and today because I wanted the Yankees to clinch via victory.
Annabelle 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2006 i hardly blame stairs & neifi for the tigers collapse, i'm merely stating that their inclusion will hardly prevent it. in fact, it may further lead to their dwindling performance. thats what i was saying. completely taken out of context. stairs & neifi are awful. and they just blew another lead. i'm sounding like a cubs fan. i still got the a's, i guess. Annabelle 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2006 and the tigers blew a game they should have easily tucked away. its been painful to watch their demise. luckily they over-achieved so much early in the season that they'll still make the playoffs. but as far as that, it doesn't look too favorable for them. they need to pikc it up. NYU 0 Report post Posted September 22, 2006 Giambi has a small ligament tear in his wrist and is going to miss this weekend. He might need surgery in the off season. Giambi should have given A-Rod a lecture on properly tearing ligaments right before the playoffs. Alex hasn't shown the heart Giambi has when it comes to getting injured at extremely inappropriate times.
tominator89 0 Report post Posted September 22, 2006 'Free the birds': Orioles fans walk out in protest Associated Press BALTIMORE -- Nearly a thousand disgruntled Orioles fans walked out of Baltimore's game against Detroit en masse on Thursday, culminating a demonstration aimed at team owner Peter Angelos. A majority of the protesters wore black T-shirts that read "FREE THE BIRDS," and many carried signs that had "For Pete's Sake" on one side and "Free the Birds" on the other. They filled parts of six sections in the upper deck, then walked out in the middle of the fourth inning at precisely 5:08 p.m. -- in honor of former Oriole stars Brooks Robinson (No. 5) and Cal Ripken (No. 8). The group walked in line through the lower deck before departing. Baltimore is in the midst of its club-record ninth consecutive losing season, all of them under the leadership of Angelos, who gained control of the franchise in 1993. "We are here to show our dissatisfaction with his role, and some of the stupid decisions he has made," said 43-year-old fan Eric Hunter. "We want someone in there who will spend the money to do the things that will bring the fans back." Angelos defended the fashion in which he runs the team, which last reached the playoffs in 1997. "Whoever joins that protest has no comprehension of what it costs to run a baseball team," Angelos said in a telephone interview from his law office in Baltimore. "When you get down to facts, putting together a team that can compete in the AL East means having a payroll between $100 million-$110 million. That money comes from the consumer, and I have chosen to keep ticket prices to a minimum. "Our payroll is $75 million, and our ticket prices average $22. Some of the teams we compete against charge an average of $45," Angelos said. "We're going to have to match the competition. How to do that is a decision I will make in the future." The rally was organized by Nestor Aparicio, owner of radio station WNST-AM and the nephew of former Oriole shortstop Luis Aparicio. "We have a chance to make a memorable civic statement about how we, as fans, are fed up with the embarrassment that the Orioles have become," Aparicio said. "He is a very unimportant person who has delusions of grandeur," Angelos said. "To begin with, to leave in the middle of the game is an abuse of the players who have worked hard and played their hearts out." Aparicio spoke beforehand of bringing in between 3,000 fans and 10,000 fans, but the group fell far short of that amount. Still, they made their presence known by chanting and rooting for the Orioles from well before the game started. Raymond Burke, 54, wore a dark suit over his black "FREE THE BIRDS" shirt. "This is all part of my kids having the experience that I had as a kid coming to the games -- of experiencing the great teams and teams that meant something to the community," he said. After the game, Orioles vice president of baseball operations Mike Flanagan said, "They showed a lot of passion and exuberance. They want to win and we want to win. Hopefully, we're headed in that direction in the offseason."
