Mets get their bats working for the first time in about ten days, as they put together a six-run rally in the fifth that features a three-run Wright home run.

Rollins hits #23, Marlins are dead.

It would make me very happy that the Phillies have KO'd the Marlins and Astros from postseason contention with two sweeps, I sure hope they can finish Florida off today & tomorrow. Two clubs that broke the Phillies hearts the last time they got close to the WC.

1st and 3rd for Ryan Howard now after Chase and GO GO VICTORINO get on...better pitch to him, Girardi. Edit: Howard goes down swinging, damn.

Yeah these FOX broadcasters are awful. I've got the TV on and 1210 rockin'. Damn 1 second TV delay, though.

Also: Joe Girardi's a jerk.

Some friends and I will be attending tomorrow and Monday's games. We're contemplating bringing "PLEASE PITCH TO MY DADDY" signs.

I'll be at Sunday's game as well. Keep an eye out for a guy in Section 303 wearing a Reading Phillies throwback jersey.

I invented this thing. I can repeat all the cheeses I want. Wait till next week when we do lunch meats. Then I can really "ham" it up.

Don't even think about starting that baloney.

Al, what was the crowd chanting during Coste's at bat?

Another intentional walk on Howard. Then former PHILLIE KILLING MARLIN (now MARLIN KILLING PHILLIE) Jeff Conine cracks a big double. 8-4 with 1 out, and bases loaded now. Girardi throws Intentional Walks out (4 today) like candy.

I don't know what they were chanting.

Home run for Cody Ross. Hopefully we don't see three more.

Just caught the replay. Kearns and Johnson both went for the ball and both slid. Johnson caught Kearns awkwardly. Vidro immediately motioned for assistance while running after the ball.

Austin Kearns was taken out of the game as well. He was fairly upset in right field.

Slayer's was just...weird. I don't know what that thing about Clemens "leaving a sore ass when he comes out" thing was about.

I hate to explain jokes, but

Gubment cheese was excess cheese given to welfare folk during the Reagan administration and tended to give people diarrhea.

Clemens tended to leave franchises not unlike diarrhea... plus he was pretty good at fucking them in the ass. Cheech13's post was good at documenting this.

I believe the proper spelling is "bologna"...jive turkey.

I'm not the least bit surprised that the Marlins flamed out, but this was a great season. Just tremendous. I can't wait until opening day next season and I truly, truly hope they use some of that excess money to sign Dontrelle to a long term deal.

Sure - he can probably bring back a ton of prospects including the desperately needed CF prospect (Chris Young would be ideal) but he's more than just a pitcher. He's the face of the franchise and one of the most likeable players in all of baseball. It would just be a deadly, deadly mistake to trade him.

Same goes for Cabrera but I don't think even Jeff Loria is dumb enough to get rid of him.

What the fuck is wrong with Loria?!?? He's going to get rid of a manager who in his rookie year has a team everyone thought would be in last as a wild card spoiler longshot (they can't possibly win it, but even so) because Girardi had the gall to tell him to stop yelling at an ump in the middle of a game?!!!?

That is seriously some of the dumbest shit I've ever heard.

As far as Girardi becoming Yankees manger in "a perfect world..." I'd like to see him back on the staff, but I don't really think he's ready to manage a team like the Yankees with so many all-star players and oversized egos. Managing a bunch of kids is one thing, but I think the Yankee clubhouse might eat a guy who's basically a peer alive. And who knows what might happen between him and George.

The Devil Rays need to fire whoever the fuck is managing their team now and go hard after Joe G

How not? A team with a $15M payroll predicted to lose 100+ games was within 1.5 games of the wild card into September. How is that not a great season?

Joe Maddon, the old Angels bench coach, is managing the Rays. I think they're pretty committed to him, and I wanted to see a sabermetrics-friendly manager do well. Shame about the bad season.

Did anyone else catch "have you read Moneyball, that book where supposedly Billy Beane is a genius and everyone else is Barney Fife? Well maybe they didn't fleece the White Sox after all, haha!"
