devo 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 What a terrible call that was. I wish managers would realize that Hit and Runs fail spectacularly as often as they succeed. Edit: Guh. This lineup is just too much.

This lineup is just too much. Late on this but my God what a terrible call that was. You have Wang on the ropes and then give him a free out. What a genius Jim Leyland is. Notice the hypocrisy in announcing in that very rarely do announcers ever criticize hit and runs because the manager is being "aggressive" yet they turn around and criticize hitters for "walking too much". Ok maybe that's just Joe Morgan but whatever

Slayer 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 That's why the Yankees need to lose as soon as possible, otherwise we'll be going through this at least 3-4 more times.
devo 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 Why is one of the Indians fans in that insipid Lasorda commercial wearing a Reds hat? Edit: Bah. Polanco couldn't make the same play Belliard did earlier in the day.
Slayer 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 Way back in the old days the Indians used to have that same logo too... just look at old cards of Bob Feller
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 There's the ball game. Four runs should be enough of a lead that even Farnsworth can't fuck it up.
devo 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 Nice one, Casey. Thanks for the clarification, Slayer. Edit: And Mike Myers leaves with an ERA of infinity.

Annabelle 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 tigers are just too inexperienced. making simple mistakes. maybe with verlander, rogers, and hopefully bonderman throwing, they'll have a better showing. they did start with their 4th pitcher for whatever reason. who can be great, but usually is kinda shitty. and was tonight. how great is jeter? Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 I watched the game at Applebee's and was pulling for Detroit until a bunch of ignorant dudes came in and instantly converted the table into Yankees fans. One of the guys said if Inge had gotten a hit, he'd go home and beat his dog. Uh, yeah. Detroit's in trouble, though.
Guest Paul Report post Posted October 4, 2006 Jeter is the MVP and this series is over. The line-up, it's too much for Detroit. A rookie, in Yankee Stadium starting a must win game? We'll see.
Annabelle 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 oh ya, detroit is toast. i don't think anyone expected them to win. i still desperately hope they do, but they won't. they'll be so good next year. be able to refine their gameplan more to leyland's liking. more contact hitters. we'll probably see robertson move, or someone like that. they have a great mix of guys to build around. polanco, guillen, granderson, and monroe are strong guys in the line-up. keeping magglio & rodriguez will help, too. the pitching was sorta overated from the beginning. none of them are a sure thing, especially verlander. but he'll be great in the next few years. their best pitcher is zumaya. edit: i don't think the yanks offense is too much for the tigers. they simply are experienced enough to make the tigers pay for their mistakes. had robertson gotten damon out in the 3rd inning with the dribbler, the inning would have been completely different. posada doesn't usually do much in the playoffs, either does matsui or arod. don't get me wrong, its a great line-up but i doubt its enough to compensate for their awful bullpen. this game should have been 8-1. not 8-4. Guest Paul Report post Posted October 4, 2006 Zumaya should be nasty one day.
Annabelle 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 Zumaya should be nasty one day. he's nasty now. but of course, he can get wild at times. he's only 21 though. he can go almost three innings and shut down an offense. another reason i really like the tigers in the future is that they have both andrew miller & humberto sanchez waiting in the wings. both are touted as great top end starters. even jordan tata is supposed to be pretty deadly, too. MFer 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 I'm just glad that Detroit didn't fold like a tent and lose 15-1 or something like that. They fought hard the whole game. Even though the Tigers had there 4th starter out there, they managed to keep the damage at somewhat of a minimum considering the Yankee lineup. It was nice to see Detroit string together some hits for once. They just didn't execute when it mattered the most. The only way the Tigers can win this series is if they win this next game. Fortunately, they have better pitchers than Robertson starting now and the strong bullpen arms didn't have to pitch in Game 1. I'm not going to bet on Detroit winning this series but New York is definitely going to have to work to advance.

I know Kenny Rogers is due for playoff success but you really should watch the 96 playoffs especially game 4 of the world series and game 6 of the 1999 NLCS so you can fully realize what kind of pitcher Kenny Rogers is. lomasmoney 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 Uh, yeah, Kenny Rogers is definately a better pitcher than Nate Robertson. Two random playoff games have nothing to do with the fact that the guy is an automatic 15 wins a year, compared to Robertson who can get shelled one game or throw a two hitter the next
The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 JETER'S POSTSEASON CLUTCH HITTING REACHES SUPERHERO PROPORTIONS I especially love the following excerpt: So, after Johnny Damon led off the sixth with a hit, Jeter lined No. 139, a double to left, that set up Bobby Abreu's two-run single. No. 140, culminating his first five-hit game of his postseason career, tying a postseason record held by six, went over the center-field fence in the ninth, more for insurance in the 8-4 victory than because Jeter was wondering if anybody was still watching. No chance you could take your eyes off one of greatest postseason performers in sports history, still going strong as ever in his Yankee October No. 11. Apparently, when ARod hits a home run to extend out a lead, he's simply "tacking on" or "padding his stats." When Jeter hits a home run to extend out a lead, it's "insurance."
