On my drive up to work I had the game on the radio (why the fuck I get the Yankee network in Anchorage I have no idea) and the female announcer they have said if the Yankees lose this series it's much worse than losing 4 in a row to Boston 2004. Because losing to a team that won 95 games and was at the top of the league most of the year is so much worse then being the only team in history to blow a 3-0 series lead, and doing it to your arch rival. Sheesh.

Alex won't be going anywhere. Neither will Torre or Moose. Sheff is gone.

They just need to cut Pavano and Wright, and get a few arms for the pen.

That's absurd.

This is more like the former Oakland A's, or Braves quality playoff baseball.

this one will hurt almost as much as the sox comeback. this is a first round loss to a team they underestimated & thought shouldn't even be in the playoffs. its been 6 years now since they've won. for yank fans, i don't think its "oh well, next year" anymore like it has been in the past.

a-rod was gone in july. he won't be back.

Not true. He could just be having some "Bonds like" early playoff performances.

That's a shame (losing the no hitter).

I'm really glad I was able to get home from work around 4:30 to watch this game. As someone who more or less stopped watching baseball by 1995 after following it a great deal as a child (I still followed the standings and went to games with people, but I didn't spend time watching it on TV to see the Tigers lose) I'm really happy to see people excited about baseball in the area. A friend of mine got me back into the game big time recently, so it's been a great season to be a Tiger's fan. It's also funny that early in what I remember being the 2004 season, a friend and I went to Comerica Park and saw Bonderman start a game the Tiger's badly lost. This turnaround is great.

I actually agree with this. This supposed "Greatest Offense Ever" has, outside of one 5-run inning, done bupkis this series and have looked absolutely putrid these last two games.

Hey Bob, where'd you get that Red Sox hat in '04? I'm grabbing me a Tigers hat and jumping my ass on the bandwagon.

No. This could never reach 2004 levels. Not even a 3 game sweep would have been like that. I'm not so sure the Yankees underestimated this team at all, or claimed they shouldn't be in the playoffs. That's just some Leyland kool-aid.

edit: And it was all a media swirl with the "best lineup ever" stuff. That had yet to be proven, and was proven false.

Typical female and/or bandwagon fan of the NY Yankees.

I don't need it for next year... I'll spin my pinstripe cap around and head over to Shea to cheer for the rest of October...It's the most wonderful time of the year!!! *big smile*

give me a break. i read nearly every experts column/picks for this series, not ONE picked the tigers. not one. after getting swept by the royals, everyone & myself included, wrote off the tigers. its not a bad thing that people underestimated the team, except for the opponant.

Exactly. The media underestimated the Tigers. The media said they were "lucky." This hasn't come out of any Yankee mouths, has it? If so, I must've missed it.

It's a shame you wrote your team off so early, though.

casey is playing better than he did the regular season. by far.

paul: you're right. but i'm sure the internalized some of it. they had a certain swagger in game 1. they don't have that anymore. i could be way wrong.

He had to get all the Pittsburgh stink off him first. Did you know he's a nice guy? I don't think anyone has been called nice as much as Sean Casey. He's a really nice guy.

Agreed. They did have a swagger, as they came out swinging in game 1. I'm sure after that game, a few of them thought it would be easy. But the swagger has been gone since game 1. I never even saw it when they were ahead in game 2.

My hat's off to Tigers pitching. I thought Oakland may have had the best rotation in the post-season. But man, Detroit is really tearing shit up.

How are the Yankees going to get rid of a pitcher who has been injored the past 2 years and has 2 years and 20 million left on his contract. Pavano is not going anywhere.

Meanwhile, FOX still can't find anything to play going into commercial breaks that's post-1989.
