Guest Smues Report post Posted October 2, 2006 Maddux vs. Glavine in the playoffs...neat. Well crap I hate both teams, and I can't root for the Brave in this case either. Ummm, I guess, go Dodgers. (gag)
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted October 2, 2006 Maddux vs. Glavine in the playoffs...neat. And one of them will finally win in the playoffs. Lolz.
DerangedHermit 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2006 I don't think Penny will be starting in Game 3, all signs point to Maddux being moved back to Game 3 and Kuo pitching Game 2. Or at least Kuo pitching game 3?
Guest Report post Posted October 2, 2006 Penny is probably not going to be on the roster for this series. He's been hurt for a while. Nomar is hurt, but he's going to play anyway.
Bored 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2006 Ya I went off of a mlb.com so I wasn't sure how accurate they were. But from reading the AP story of the Dodgers game today Maddux is definently starting Game 2.

devo 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2006 Hopefully, the Mets' poor performance against Kuo was due to having never seen him before. Lowe and Maddux are fine pitchers, but honestly, any halfway decent lefty is of more concern to me right now than any right-hander. Also, I heard that Penny might be coming out of the bullpen for this series.
DerangedHermit 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2006 OK, it's Kuo for G2 and Maddux for G3 The Dodgers flew home after the game and will travel to New York on Monday, with a workout Tuesday and Game 1 on Wednesday, when they will send Derek Lowe to the mound. Rookie Hong-Chih Kuo, who beat the Mets at Shea Stadium in his first Major League start last month, is tentatively set to start Game 2. Greg Maddux will pitch Game 3 in Los Angeles. Brad Penny, a World Series hero for Florida as a starter, is expected to be used out of the bullpen initially. If his back is sound enough, he might start a Game 4 or 5. Penny said his back felt surprisingly good the day after a full bullpen session Saturday. Chad Billingsley, who will work out of the bullpen in the playoffs, even though he has only two relief appearances since his June promotion from Triple-A. http://losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/NASApp/m...jsp&c_id=la

DerangedHermit 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2006 Provided things don't go the way I want them to, this is going to be the best series this year. This will be the best NL matchup most definitely. Mets in 5. Dodgers win in Game 2 and 4. Mets win 1, 3 and 5.

Dodgers win in Game 2 and 4. Mets win 1, 3 and 5. That's about what I thought as well. I wouldn't be shocked to see LA win though. Whichever team wins this series will win the NL pennant. The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2006 I'll go with the Mets in four, as the short series will mask their depleted starting pitching. It's the next series where they could get into big trouble.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2006 ESPN's reporting El Duque is hurt and they aren't sure if he can start.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2006 Great, El Duque might not be able to pitch after hurting his calf while running. I'm gonna go with LA in 4 if he's out as well.

Guest Paul Report post Posted October 3, 2006 Go find David Cone.
devo 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2006 If he's out, what do the Mets do for Game 1? Glavine will probably get the nod. Upon further thought, it's not that big a deal if Hernandez can't start game one. Glavine is just as capable as he is, and so long as Orlando's able to pitch sometime in this series, I don't think the Mets will suffer too much. But if Hernandez isn't able to pitch in the DS at all, the Mets might as well pack it in. A rotation of Glavine/Trachsel/Maine does not inspire confidence. Guest Paul Report post Posted October 3, 2006 fuck they might have to pull Doc Gooden out of whatever coke pile he's laying in... At least Cone should be clean. edit: The Mets STILL don't know who's starting tonight. Sid Fernandez is waiting by his phone.
devo 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2006 edit: The Mets STILL don't know who's starting tonight. Tomorrow. Also, it's looking like Maine will get the job if Hernandez isn't available.
devo 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 John Maine is going to start tonight. What's more, Hernandez isn't going to be available for this series and is questionable for a possible CS. http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/new...sp&c_id=nym I'm not going to freak out about this. I still think the team is strong enough to win this series. If nothing else, Maine winning tonight would make for a great story.
Darthtiki 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 I have been waiting for this day since Lima's last stand in '04. While I know what the Dodgers are up against and know that they are seen as the underdog, I think that they may pull it off but it will go at least 4. UZI Suicide 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 If it makes Mets fans feel any better, the Dodgers lost middle reliever Joe Beimel for possibly the series after cutting his hand drinking a glass of water in his hotel room. Not that losing him is as bad as losing your game 1 starter, but he's been a dependable lefty out of the pen for us the last few months.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 Yeah, knowing that LA lost a middle reliever lessens the pain of having our # 1 and # 3 go out in the last week or so without throwing a pitch in the playoffs. The Mets won't win this series, but at least they'll go out and spend money on starting pitching next year as a result of these untimely injuries.
