naiwf 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2006 Jose Reyes gets the 1st run on the board with a dribbler to short. I still don't know why the Mets can't hit rookies and/or lefties.

NYU 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2006 FOX might be just as bad as ESPN as far as jinxing the pitchers. Only minutes after putting up a graphic for "The last postseason shutout the New York Mets had was against the Cardinals in 2000", Heilman gives up a homerun. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2006 Gotta leave these teams that go on amazing runs to make the playoffs, only to roll over and die upon arrival. The Dodgers and Padres don't even look like they belong in the NLDS.
NYU 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2006 And they're saying on ESPN that Nomar's injured.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2006 The NL West champion should just give up their postseason spot next year to the best AL team that doesn't make it.

devo 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2006 This is the best I could have expected from the Mets tonight. The pitching, highlighted by one of Glavine's finest starts all year, was superb. The batting, particularly against Kuo, was a little sketchy, and doesn't bode well should the Mets face any more tough lefties in future matchups. Really, they only should have scored two runs on the entire night. But, the extra two they scored was thanks to the Dodgers' defense, which was lacking while the Mets' was basically flawless. Very well done so far. Now I just gotta hope Trachsel can be an anchor in the rotation, which would definitively answer any questions about the quality of the Mets' pitching. The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2006 The Dodgers are an odd team. They were 4th in the NL in runs scored and they led the league in OBP, but they were in the middle of the pack in slugging. That, and the anecdotal evidence ("they just kept putting together clutch hit after clutch hit") seems to indicate that they built their offense on lengthy rallies, which is fine in the regular season, but might be a bit harder to sustain in the playoffs when the quality of pitching improves. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2006 I meant "love" instead of "leave" in my last post, in case anyone couldn't figure that out. Anyway, I must say that with three series already on the verge of ending, this has been an unentertaining opening round. I've seen chunks of just about every game and I'd say the only really good ones have been Game 1 of A's/Twins, Game 1 of Mets/Dodgers and today's Tigers/Yanks game. devo 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2006 Damn, Floyd's probably out for the rest of the playoffs. He was swinging a real hot bat, too.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2006 What a stupid move by the Dodgers. Take down Maddux for a pinch-hitter in the fourth with runners at second and third. I understand the need to get those runs in, but with one out, at worst, you're probably leaving it up to Furcal. As it is, Maddux is out and Ethier lined into a DP. Maddux probably would've just made ONE out.
