Guest NYankees Report post Posted December 6, 2006 They said the production from Boston's rf and ss. I dont recall them saying just Nixon and Agon. Barry Bonds wants a 2 year 40 million dollar contract from the Giants.

Darthtiki 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2006 Word around the campfire is that Dodger closer Eric Gagne is going to sign with another team. God I hate the Dodger ownership. I'm glad. He wants 10 million a year. Look I have no problem with what Boras is trying to get Gagne, but it's all on speculation and honestly Eric's best years are more than likely behind him and Saito and Broxton aren't too bad. It was nice to get rid of C.D. (China Doll) Drew, but not offering arbitration to Maddux and letting him leave to the Padres is downright retarded. My thing is that with the current ownership of the Dodgers, it's been put a decent squad on the field that sniffs the playoffs and then firesales them in offseason. Guest Report post Posted December 6, 2006 It's because they're afraid to get burned by trading their prospects, so they try to let the vets walk and fill the holes for cheap, and spend the money on pitching. I'm still sure that they'll get Zito.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2006 Mike and the Mad Dog just said Schmidt to the Dodgers for the bargain price of 3 yrs/$47 million. This is sheer insanity.
The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2006 They said the production from Boston's rf and ss. I dont recall them saying just Nixon and Agon. Fair enough - here are the comparisons against the Red Sox SS and RF: Lugo: .278/.341/.421, 12 HR in 435 ABs BOS SS: .250/.306/.368, 10 HR in 571 ABs Drew: .283/.393/.498, 20 HR in 494 ABs BOS RF: .265/.352/.425, 17 HR in 593 ABs It may not seem like it at first glance, but the 100 point jump in OPS at each position (especially the ~40 point difference in OBP) is quite a substantial difference in offensive output. That being said, I think the Drew signing has the potential to be a catastrophic mistake for the Red Sox. They've got a long term contract for a guy with a degenerative knee condition who's been trending downward at the plate for three years now. There's always a chance that Drew can bounce back with .300/.400/.500 over 500+ plate appearances for the next few years, but that chance comes with pretty slim odds and, judging by the dollar amounts involved, those odds weren't considered strongly enough in the calculus behind the contract. I don't think Matsuzaka will get anything close to $14 million. The Sox first offer was $8 million a year, and Boras supposedly countered with $12 million (this really is all speculation though). They'll probably sette near the middle, say $10-12 million a year for 4 years.

No. Thank the Cubs for giving Soriano the most absurd contract since A-Rod's for allowing scrubs like GMJ to get 5 @ 55 and shitty pitchers to get $8-10 million this season, marginal guys to get 10-12, and top of the line starters 15+. It's like Kevin Brown all over again. Boras will want at least $16 million per for Matsuzaka now that Schmidt's gonna get 15.7 over 3 years, and well over $100 million over 6 years for Zito which may price him out of the Mets' range. WFAN is reporting that the Cubs have offered Ted Lilly 4 yeard 40 million dollars. Lilly is going to choose between either the Yankees or the Cubs. He has a meeting with Brian Cashman later this afternoon. This points that the Yankees aren't going to get Pettitte. The Yankees should back the fuck off from Lilly and just pitch some rookie named Rasner or whoever they have in Triple A. It's not like the results are going to be any different and they will save 10 million dollars.

I like Schmidt, but that salary is fucking retarded. I feel for the small-market teams. They have to draft great, and have great farm systems, because the lack of a salary cap destroys any chance of them hanging onto their guys.

Guest Gathering Moss Report post Posted December 6, 2006 According to rotoworld, the Braves traded Horacio Ramirez to the Mariners for Rafael Soriano. What is wrong with Bill Bavasi?
Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2006 Really, I wonder how that could be true? When the Mariners were talking about acquiring Manny earlier this week, they said that Soriano was completely off limits. Now they are trading him for Horacio Ramirez? And does going to KC make everyone stupid? The Royals traded Ambiorix Burgos to the Mets for Brian Bannister. I can't even begin to defend that one. That new GM shine may be off Dayton Moore now. Bored 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2006 Piazza to the A's is a done deal, 1-year for $8.5 million. Mets apparently had talks with the A's about Rich Harden today. I would be stunned if any deal got done and if the A's did ever trade him I'd think they had officially given up on him ever staying healthy.

I would be stunned if any deal got done and if the A's did ever trade him I'd think they had officially given up on him ever staying healthy. I heard a rumor that they were asking for Pelfrey/Heilman, two pitchers who could both be better going forward than Harden when injury concerns are factored in. Can't see the Mets giving up that much though. Maybe a ploy in negotiations with Zito?
vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2006 ESPN and the Houston Chronicle have just put out a report saying that Andy Pettitte WILL, in fact, return for the '07 season and it will either be with the Yanks or the 'Stros. On ESPN 790 AM, Astros' GM Tim Purpura just said that he is, at this moment, in negotiations with Alan and Randy Hendricks, the agents for Andy Pettitte. I take that and the fact that the Yankees are apparently making a strong push to sign Ted Lilly as good signs that Pettitte will be back in a Houston uniform next season...to play beside his friend My Clam. vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2006 Hey now, My Clam doesn't just play 1st. He can also play some 3rd and outfield. And he's the emergency catcher. You might say he's the "pearl" of the Astros bench... Wait...do clams make pearls? Or is that just oysters? What's the difference between clams and oysters? Is an oyster a female clam? What's the deal there?
devo 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2006 Piazza to the A's is a done deal, 1-year for $8.5 million. Coincidentally, the As go to Shea this year. I look forward to another warm welcome for Piazza (I'm sure he'll catch at least one of those games) but not so much the Met-crushing performance he put on last season. Guest Report post Posted December 7, 2006 The A's and Twins don't need your sympathy, they're better than most of the major league teams. Because they've done what small market teams have to do. When Santana's deal is up, they have no way to pay him 30 million dollars a year, and I'd like to see them try to re-sign Joe Mauer and Morneau. Zito's going to get 20 million a year.
