OAO No Mercy Thread - October/8th/2006.

Whoa...wait? You could actually see Regal's package? I was under the impression it was just his ass.

He was holding a towel over his package front-on while talking to Vito and it slipped down some. Then when he left the locker room he was running down the hall bare-assed and bumped into Teddy Long. So we got both.

WWE APOLOGIZES

World Wrestling Entertainment would like to apologize to anyone who watched WWE No Mercy and was offended by the William Regal locker room incident. Conduct of this kind is unacceptable in a family-friendly environment, and WWE accepts full responsibility. Nudity of any kind, even in a live television environment, is offensive to our audience and to the reputation of our company.

Hahahahahaha...

We can see the asses of Vince, Coach, Big Show, and 5 midgets over the course of 2 months on Raw, but a one-second slip-up on "that other show" and the PR monkeys are out giving the typical WWE phony apologies.

I'd hate to see Regal's package as much as the next guy, but isn't this double standard a little much, even in WWE?

They're also promoting Diva Strip Poker for this week's ECW show. Of course, they won't follow through w/ the nudity, but still.

this gimmick should have been done years ago. Just a horrible wrestler that knows he's a horrible wrestler and just cheats his way to victory at every turn possible.

Give him the world title.

I think they did that already, it was called JBL.

No Mercy was a good PPV. There was only one bad match(MVP's squash). Great to see Benoit, and as usual he delivers a great match with Regal. Despite the weird finish, Taker/Kennedy was great. The fatal four way was also good. IMO, Hardy/Helms

was better than their recent tv matches(as good as they were). The tag match was decent.

This PPV was worth the money.

Does anybody else see the irony in WWE changing the main event for this show at the last minute for fear of a record low buyrate, all the while Chris Benoit's return from a 5 month break went completely unhyped?

I'm not complaining, I much prefer a surprise return like we saw tonight to the ratings motivated bullshit for things like Jeff Hardy or Batista's returns, but if they were truly worried about the buyrate for this PPV they had a great draw up their sleeve.

Knowing WWE management they probably don't think Benoit is a draw......

Probably. The crowd at this PPV said otherwise though.

Maybe Benoit will get another title run seeing as Vince doesn't pay much attention to Smackdown that means he may atleast have a slim shot. If Vince payed close attention he'd have 0 shot so there's hope.

I was thinking much the same thing watching Benoit do his thing with Regal and not looking like he was even the slightest bit rusty. He should be injected into the title picture or feuded with Kennedy right away, but I'm sure he'll be in a meaningless program with MVP until that guy gets shipped back to OVW or DSW because he's 'not ready yet'. Thinking about that now makes me hope to see Gunner Scott/Brent Albright back on SD sometime.

Not advertising Benoit was a mega stupid move. Okay maybe not so much him but not even mentioning the whole Regal mystery opponent deal on SD before the PPV. If they had advertised Benoit or at least "Regal is issuing an open challenge for the PPV" then I might have been more inclined to order this PPV.

SD just does a horrible job of hyping PPVs. The irony is that the next day I always read about how the PPV was actually quite good, but the hype doesn't suggest that it would be so I don't order it.

I just looked at the No Mercy pictures on WWE.com. After seeing MVP's outfit I don't feel sorry for the Spirit Squad or Vito anymore.

I see no problem with seeing William Regal's dick

With you Bob, that's no suprise.

I suppose all he needed was a Hillary Duff towell on when he left the shower and you would have been set.

SmackDown PPVs have been pretty good this year,(with No Way Out being the best). but No Mercy was probablly the weakest one so far. still entertaining overall though. the Benoit return caught me off guard. still great none the less.

Main event was pretty solid. Batista and Lashley had a portion in the middle where they had a big staredown and fight.

The show as a whole was actually pretty decent, outside of MVP's squash. Taker-Kennedy and Rey-Chavo were both good matches but suffered from lame endings.

Hardy-Helms, the Tag Title match, Benoit-Regal, and the main event were all really good.

Couldn't have posted it any better. Going into the PPV after seeing the card, I thought it was going to suck, but boy the WWE caught off me big time with wonderful surprises left and right (Benoit's unexpected return and finally having a great match with Regal on PPV where it belongs and not fucking Velocity, tag title match being better than I anticipated, Booker stealing the win and having the title even longer than I thought much to my joy.)

Didn't like Rey / Chavo this time, but then again I am getting sick of this feud. Pretty surprised with Undertaker / Kennedy with the WTF ending and that Ken got as much offense in as he did. Very sad to see the King's Court break up, but it was going to happen eventually. Thanks for proving me wrong Smackdown, you haven't had a sucky PPV yet all year long. Don't let me down with Armageddon.

WWE No Mercy 2006:

Kendrick & London absolutely worked their asses off, displaying more athletic ability, selling, creative moves, and double-teams in their match with the green James & Stevens then I have seen all year in WWE. Everything told a great story, they worked harder than 1996 HBK, carrying the newbie team to the match of their lives.

It's a **** match. And everyone, even the valets, was 100% spot on.

___

Hardy/Helms was a really good opener with a hot crowd, solid build of their previous matches, and excellent last few minutes.

*** match, easily. Good stuff. Helms drilling Hardy w/ 3 straight inverted Unprettiers and then Hardy responding w/ 3 straight side effects was cool. Plus a FLYING SHINING WIZARD. Come on!

___

Miz's Birthday Segment - Would've preferred another fun Tatanka/Miz CHOPS OF DEATH match, I guess. Layla is just gorgeous. Still, should've worked towards another match, this was obviously more filler to replace the Finlay/Batista singles match. Groan.

___

MVP comes out dressed, as JBL said, "Like a Bud Light can", and the crowd starts a "Power Ranger! chant. And JBL makes the match by claiming Marty Garner "Just Walked Out of a Concentration Camp!" "Play of the Day" finishes. This PPV has been derailed.

___

Taker hitting Kennedy with the title made sense, and was the only appropriate finish. Kennedy obviously wasn't going to beat Taker, and Taker didn't need a win over Kennedy. Kennedy beats his 4th World Champ, and why wouldn't Taker hit him with the title, it's not like it was on the line. Lame ending, but the only real option.

___

Rey/Chavo was a realistic, ECW''96 type of crowd-brawling match. It wasn't great, but I liked what I saw. It actually needed, IMO, some in-ring moments and about 5-6 more minutes in different parts of the arena. But I liked it, Chavo acted like a vicious killer, and Rey used the environment well. Finish was a tad blown.

___

Cruiserweight Benoit/Having a Bad Day Regal time. :) This PPV will likely have 3 matches at ***+, plus a main event that could be interesting. Works for me.

___

Benoit and Regal have a classic. A classic. Watch this. Easily their best WWE match, and close to the Pillman show bout. The commentary is insightful, the mat wrestling is great, the stiffness is all over the place. One of the best Regal matches I've ever seen and the return of my favorite wrestler. You two get ****.

___

Regal's subsequent standing up to King Booker, the self-absorbed asshole who could care less about Regal, was done really well.

___

Overall -

1. Matt Hardy def. Gregory Helms - ***

x - Booker/Sharmell/Regal promo - Good

2. London & Kendrick def. James & Stevens - ****

x - "The Marine" trailer - Momentum Killer

x - Regal/Vito promo - Bad

x - Teddy Long/Miz/Layla/Johnson segment - Could've been worse. Miz was hilarious acting like an annoying 8 year old who saw a girl for the first time.

3. MVP def. Marty Garner - *

x - Naked Regal/Vito/Teddy Long promo - Uncomfortable to funny. "Horseplay in the hall!"

4. Mr. Kennedy def. Undertaker by DQ - **

5. Rey Mysterio def. Chavo Guerrero (Falls Count Anywhere) - ** 1/2

x - "The Marine" premiere footage - Enough.

6. Chris Benoit def. Sir William Regal - ****

x - Regal/Finlay/Booker/Sharmell promo - Excellent
