Guest Smues Posted October 28, 2006 Report Posted October 28, 2006 Cards win, Pujols gets his ring, Larussa gets another ring, and an NL team wins the series in the year where they got raped in interleague play and everyone was saying the AL was going to sweep the series in July. Awesome. Oh and the series winner finally won at home. Awesome.
Guest Princess Leena Posted October 28, 2006 Report Posted October 28, 2006 At least the best hitter in baseball gets a ring. Otherwise, meh.
Guest Paul Posted October 28, 2006 Report Posted October 28, 2006 Congrats Jeff Weaver. You've found your form, somewhere. Buck sounded like he just lost some money...
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted October 28, 2006 Report Posted October 28, 2006 A couple thoughts here... 1. One of the most annoying things about postgame celebrations are official hats and t-shirts handed out on the field (or ice). It destoys the spontaneity. 2. Considering the flak Tony LaRussa's gotten for his postseason failures, this has to rank as his most impressive managerial job in his career. He deserves a ton of credit for this.
Bored Posted October 28, 2006 Report Posted October 28, 2006 This probably puts LaRussa in the Hall of Fame.
bob_barron Posted October 28, 2006 Report Posted October 28, 2006 Joe Buck's apathy was strange. He should be shot. The guys on the international feed had a much better call
Bruiser Chong Posted October 28, 2006 Report Posted October 28, 2006 My god. I didn't think it could happen. I thought they'd do better than a sweep, but I didn't think they'd actually win it all. Eckstein for MVP.
Guest NYankees Posted October 28, 2006 Report Posted October 28, 2006 83 Wins, 83 Wins in the regular season, JESUS CHRIST. This team had the 13th best record in baseball, almost missed the playoffs and they win the World Series. Fuck you Tigers. I know Mets fans must be happy right now knowing that they just missed winning the World Series.
DMann2003 Posted October 28, 2006 Report Posted October 28, 2006 You think the Mets feel bad, If the Reds had just sucked a little less, that could have been US!!!
Guest NYankees Posted October 28, 2006 Report Posted October 28, 2006 This probably puts LaRussa in the Hall of Fame. LaRussa is going to be in the Hall regardless of this year. He had 4 pennants and 1 world series before this year, and what 8-10 division titles. Not a bad resume at all.
Guest Smues Posted October 28, 2006 Report Posted October 28, 2006 Jeff Weaver got the win in a world series clinching game. mwahahahahahah
Bruiser Chong Posted October 28, 2006 Report Posted October 28, 2006 Remember when so many people were calling for LaRussa's head?
Guest NYankees Posted October 28, 2006 Report Posted October 28, 2006 Jeff Weaver got the win in a world series clinching game. mwahahahahahah I still have nightmares of him giving up walk off homeruns in game 4 of the 2003 series.
Precious Roy Posted October 28, 2006 Report Posted October 28, 2006 This probably puts LaRussa in the Hall of Fame. Like he wasn't in already? I'm fucking SICK of this "83 GAMES! OMG!" bullshit. The Cardinals made the playoffs and beat every team put in front of them. That's that. The end. I always get choked up during these celebrations. Congratulations to the St. Louis Cardinals and their fans.

He had 4 pennants and 1 world series before this year, and what 8-10 division titles. Not a bad resume at all. Not to mention that he's like 3rd all time in wins.
KingPK Posted October 28, 2006 Report Posted October 28, 2006 Jeff Weaver got the win in a world series clinching game. mwahahahahahah Jered can win 25 games and pitch three consecutive no-hitters next year and his brother can just say "Pfft, I was the winning pitcher in a World Series clincher." That must make him feel good.
naiwf Posted October 28, 2006 Report Posted October 28, 2006 83 Wins, 83 Wins in the regular season, JESUS CHRIST. I know Mets fans must be happy right now knowing that they just missed winning the World Series. That cocksucker Billy Wagner cost us a World Series ring, woo! This outcome was worse than the Yankees beating the Mets head to head for a ring. Ugh.

The Cardinals made the playoffs and beat every team put in front of them. That's that. The end. I always get choked up during these celebrations. Congratulations to the St. Louis Cardinals and their fans. My point was that they had the 13th best record in baseball and still won the Series. Nobody predicted them to win at the start of the playoffs.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted October 28, 2006 Report Posted October 28, 2006 I don't think this is a tremendous shock. The Cardinals had won 105 and 100 games the previous two seasons. They lost David Eckstein and Jim Edmonds for a good chunk of time during the season, and they had poor performances from players not on the postseason roster. Fundamentally, I think they were better than their 2006 record would indicate. Similarly, the Tigers hadn't finished above .500 in over a decade. They probably weren't as good as their record would indicate. The Tigers' offense wasn't even that good before the series. Great win for the Cardinals.
Guest Paul Posted October 28, 2006 Report Posted October 28, 2006 I'm glad for St Louis. I have a friend who's a Cards fan. He was gettting tired of their failures.

2GOLD Posted October 28, 2006 Report Posted October 28, 2006 Wrapped up the Tigers a game faster than I picked. Shame to see the Tigers go down, I like Jim Leyland. I'd say congrats to the Cards but I'm a Cubs fan so I must hate them. It's a rule, their fans shall understand. Lucky bastards, enjoy your celebration though. You earned every minute of it.
vivalaultra Posted October 28, 2006 Report Posted October 28, 2006 Finally, Aaron Miles has a WS ring. Truly, this is evidence of God. I bet this WS win means that Jeff Weaver, Jeff Suppan, and Jim Edmonds get contracts next year. At least two of those contracts will be a mistake.
Star Ocean 3 Posted October 28, 2006 Report Posted October 28, 2006 At least the best hitter in baseball gets a ring. Otherwise, meh. Barry Bonds is a Cardinal?
cabbageboy Posted October 28, 2006 Report Posted October 28, 2006 I must be living in an alternate universe. Did I actually just see Jeff Weaver pitch a gem to clinch a World Series? People can trash the Cardinals and call them the worst ever WS winner, but really this team was fairly similar to the teams of the past 2 years that won 105 and 100 games. Before the season if someone had predicted the Cardinals would win the World Series I don't think anyone would have said it sounded crazy. The Cardinals were solid this year too until seemingly everyone went down with injuries and they went on major losing streaks. Anyway, I'm glad to see STL win it. Back in the day Louisville used to have the AAA affiliate for the Cardinals, so I have a soft spot to this day.
KingPK Posted October 28, 2006 Report Posted October 28, 2006 He actually WON the fucking MVP? How about either Suppan or Weaver? YES, HE'S SMALL, WE GET IT!
2GOLD Posted October 28, 2006 Report Posted October 28, 2006 There is something I definately couldn't have predicted. World Series MVP: David Eckstein Right now, Jeff Weaver is laughing like a madman.
Guest NYankees Posted October 28, 2006 Report Posted October 28, 2006 Is Bud Selig a Jew? I think it was funny that he didn't know how to pronounce Eckstein.
