Most Annoying Sportswriter

Recommended Posts

I just finished reading my local newspaper, the Los Angeles Times (A Tribune Company) and Bill Plascke's (sp) latest article regarding his ideas in spicing up the World Series. While I wont discredit some of his ideas (he had some that were okay) the notion of playing a World Series in a neutral warm weather city and calling it BaseballTown USA was beyond retarted. The point being, Bill Plascke bitching about UCLA, the Lakers, Kobe Bryant, Laker Management and his overall holier than though attitude about everything. To the people who watch Around the Horn, Bill Plascke reads exactly how he is on the show. To me, Bill Plaskce is LA's most annoying sportswriter.

Agree? Who are the asshole's in your town?

Guest Felonies!

The whole Chicago Tribune sports section is pretty awful for Cubs coverage. Phil Rogers and Rick Morrissey just write terrible company-line bullshit, Rogers being the worst since he was good friends with Dusty Baker and it showed. Mariotti is the most hated Chicago sportswriter, of course, but I think he's a capable writer when he's not consciously trying to stir shit. I know he's caught hell for running Bill Cartwright out of town, but we're doing a lot better with Scott Skiles, aren't we? And can anybody who thinks Hawk Harrelson and Ozzie Guillen are obnoxious blowhards really be all that bad?

Agree 100 % with your pick

I really hate how he contradicts himself from day to day

I remember last year when the Angels were in the playoffs, they win a game and Plaschke is all "this is 2002 all over again" then they lose the next game and he says the team stinks and management did a poor job in building the team. I'm pretty sure he did the same thing during the Lakers-Suns series.

Mike Lupica.

I went on a date with Mike Lupica's niece back in HS and even his family couldn't stand him.

As for annoying sportswriters for me, it's Jason Whitlock in that he is not only really stupid but his approach and self serving nature just makes things worse. I don't think I've seen anything from Plaschke outside ATH and I can't even tolerate him there bit from what I hear he is even worse with his column and this scares me.

Mitch Albom or Rob Parker by far

I'd probably go with Parker and Drew Sharp. I actually like Albom.

It's hard to believe, but Plaschke isn't the worst. That would be T.J. Simers.

Ugh, I remember him on ATH. He does make Plaschke seem tolerable.

As for me, it has to be Scoop Jackson. He has every annoying attribute. Knows nothing about sports. Writes tons of fluff. Yet, still manages to be a huge race baiter. While being arrogant. And he's ugly as anything.

Since Ottawa doesn't really have any bad sports writers, I'll go to Toronto and say Richard Griffin.

Yes.

Damien Cox

Hell yes.

Both worthy contenders, but I'd go with Steve Simmons. But Bob McKenzie would win hands down if he still wrote for the Star.

TJ Simers is the worst because he has run his gimmick straight into the ground. Plaschke is horrible, but you have to be retarded to write some of the shit he writes, so I'm going to give him a pass based off his apparent mental retardation.

I can't hate Simmons because its always entertaining, no matter how outlandish it is.

With McKenzie and Cox, both are horrible, but when they are on TV, I respect them the most.

I never got into Simmons either- plus he wasn't very nice.

I hate a lot of the Star sports writers. The Leafs lose one game and they turn into Cartman. Uh-oh seasons over

Ron Borges, who has become a complete prick since his best buddy Drew Bledsoe left New England. He actually claims Drew called him for advice during the 2001 season.

Michael Felger is starting to get annoying because he has a radio and TV show now, so he's playing the contrarian just to get callers.

EFA

They're much worse.

People still EFA? Lame.

I like the Sun sportswriters for the most part. I think Strachan is horrible and Simmons is alright, but I like that they are pro-Leafs and generally they have well written articles. They don't treat every Leafs loss like it is a crisis. I always enjoy reading anything Mike Zeisberger, Mike Ulmer or George Gross

I'll add another vote for Dan Shaughnessy. Nothing like ruining Sunday morning by reading a column by Dan. He usually whines about pretty asinine things. Such as one from last winter where he blasted the Sox for dumping the Friday night game on TV-38. Dan stood up for old people in nursing homes who wouldn't get their Sox fix because they lived in places that didn't have cable, thus no NESN.

Ron Borges is up there too, but I find his little feud with the Big Show hosts to be funny with the occasional back and forth.

Steve Buckley seems to annoy me to no end. It almost seems like he tries to be a poor man's Shaughnessy.

I don't hate Simmons, but I can see why someone would. McKenzie, though? Maybe it's because I'm used to seeing him with far inferior panelists (Domi, McGuire, Healy), but I like Mckenzie.

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: Probably all the Packer writers, but Michael Hunt is the worst. He makes that guy from LA look like a fucking a regular sports fan. After week one he talks about Thompson is a horrible GM, but after a few games he's praising him for putting a young team together and making it work. They really got worse this year after Sherman got canned.
