I'd accept Moss if he had shit in his contract that allowed for zero foolishness and required the utmost professionalism. If he's got a brain in his head still, he'll realize it'd be far more beneficial to focus on playing and then he can wear a green uniform and receive crazy shotgun blast throws from Favre.

Damn, Schaub made out well for himself.

3 yrs/~$20 million

Full deal is 6/$48, but the $10 mil roster bonus before the 2010 season assures he is either a very good QB or getting cut that season.

I...I am sorry, but seriously. Matt Shaub? That much money? They could have spent that money on a decent offensive line and gotten more production out of Carr. Geez...thats just plain stupid.

What the hell is wrong with the Texans? They needed to have a good offseason after the PR blunder of passing up Vince Young and Reggie Bush, so they not only make a hilariously bad trade, but leave themselves in a position to get jackshit for their one time "franchise QB"? I mean seriously, what the fuck? It's not like another team was going to give up more than that for Schaub, so sit on the deal and get SOMETHING for Carr. Texans fans should be calling for blood.

What it really came down to is this. Kubiak didn't like the Matt USC, he didn't like Vince Young and he didn't like David Carr. Reggie Bush wasn't a big load carrying back that Kubiak's offensive plan needed so he didn't work. The Texans made the next best pick and I still defend taking Mario Williams.

But these decisions are mind boggling. They have made zero moves to get offensive linemen, they just spent the farm on Schaub, and the running back they did sign has as many questions as most of the free agent backs that were available but he carried the highest price tag. In short, they are going backwards fast on one side of the ball and I don't think they signed anyone to build their secondary and they had plenty of guys available to do that.

I'm not seeing where they have made one move to improvement this offseason. Like Roy said, they needed a good offseason and this isn't a good offseason. It's not even a decent one. Again they are apparently going to totally IGNORE the area where they needed help.

I think these moves are bad too, but I'll play Devil's Advocate a bit.

Kubiak had a lot of success with an "anonymous" O-Line in Denver. Tom Nalen was a 7th round pick and has started 16 games for 10 seasons; Matt Lepsis was an undrafted free agent and did the same for 7 seasons. His scheme doesn't require dropping 1st round picks on guys like D'Brickashaw Ferguson, so refusing to use picks or dishing out $50 million to the Leonard Davis' of the world makes some sense.

His linemen also have a history of backing up for a year (learning the system) before starting. Tom Nalen spent his rookie season on the bench before starting 15 games the next season, while Matt Lepsis spent a year on the bench before starting all 16 games in 1999. Maybe he has the people he wants, but they just needed time to gel and understand his scheme. Since this is year two, it's time for his guys to step up.

IF the line solidifies, IF Ahman Green returns to form, IF Matt Shlub is the real deal, IF they find someone to play in secondary...

Actually, forget it. I've convinced myself that the Texans will be slaughtered next season and probably have a top-three pick.

Maybe Houston is hoping to get as lucky trading for an Atlanta backup as Green Bay did about 15 years back. Of course, GB didn't give up that much either.

Actually, GB gave up their first round pick for that year, which was pretty high, for an unproven QB, who had barely played in a regular season game beforehand and had major internal surgery just a season or two beforehand (in college) and was a known slacker/alcoholic/party boy off the field who didn't care much for meetings and practice.

So, maybe this isn't such a bad move, if Schaub turns out pretty well.

For those interested in taking David Carr..

We're willing to throw in the following:

Season tix to the Astros.

Season pass to the Schlitterbahn Water Park of your choosing.

Authentic BBQ plate from any one of the wonderful BBQ restaurants.

...oh, and maybe the rest of our draft picks from here to eternity.

Favre's other claim to fame in those early days was throwing the ball to himself and looking like a retard. There's still hope for Houston.

Lately it's been looking like the Lions may end up taking Quinn. I was an advocate for Joe Thomas, but due to free agency, the O-line seems to be in better shape. I still think there's more pressing needs than QB. Yes Kitna won't be around forever but for now I think he's good enough (among the league leaders in passing yards) and McCown has potential as a backup. Solidifying the O-line and running game will help him cut down on his turnovers. I won't be mad if they pick Quinn but I think they might be best served to trade down and get the best DE, MLB, or CB available. The media also hasn't ruled out them taking Calvin Johnson. I would love to see what the reaction would be to that.

The NFL Network says that the Texans released David Carr and Domanick Davis.

The Texans are fucking tards. That's why bottom teams stay at the bottom, because they do stupid shit like that.

And now Jon Kitna's saying that there's no reason the Lions shouldn't win 10 games this year.

Right.

God man, I was only kidding when I said they would release Carr. This team really IS fucking stupid. There was absolutely no hurry to rush the trade for Schaub. They could have moved Carr for at least a 3rd or 4th round pick..a 5th at the worse. Instead they gave up multiple picks and just let Carr walk out the door? Wow.

What the fuck is in the water in Houston?

Sucking up to try and keep his job.

Actually Lions management said Kitna is the starter. No training camp competition.

And yes the Texans are retarded. Maybe that win over the Colts last year gave management a dilluted sense of where they're really at.

I stated in this thread a few days ago that Houston was trying their hardest to trade Carr but that there was zero interest. The teams that were interested had Houston over the barrel because they knew that the Texans couldn't afford to keep Carr. There is no need to give up picks and big money when you can get him for nothing now.

Kitna is giving the same song and dance that all people give about their teams in the off-season. What's the big deal? What good would it be for Kitna to go out and say "If we get five wins, we'll be quite pleased"?

Yes! And Domanick Davis! I don't know if he's getting on in years or what, but hell, I'll take em both. Imagine what they could do with a good offensive line and more than one guy to throw to. Houston will be so pissed.

Also, while this was pretty much a foregone conclusion, one of the league's all-time greats just retired:

RB Faulk to announce retirement next week

ST. LOUIS (March 22, 2007) -- Marshall Faulk sat out last season with a knee injury that threatened to end his career. He'll officially close the door on his playing days March 26 when he announces his retirement at the NFL owners meetings.

Faulk was the NFL MVP in 2000 and offensive player of the year three years running from 1999-2001. The 34-year-old helped the Rams win their only Super Bowl after the '99 season. He is ninth on the career rushing list with 12,279 yards and tied for sixth with 100 rushing touchdowns.

"He was great for St. Louis, he was great for the Rams and he made the dome an exciting place to be on Sunday," team spokesman Rick Smith said. "But it was just a matter of when he would retire."

Faulk began working for the NFL Network as an analyst last year when wear and tear began to get to his knees. He was a seven-time Pro Bowl selection with seven 1,000-yard rushing seasons and 38 100-yard games, and was the first player in league history to gain 2,000 yards rushing and receiving combined in four consecutive seasons from 1998-2001.

His last 1,000-yard rushing season was in 2001, though, and he lost his starting job in 2004 when the Rams drafted Steven Jackson in the first round. Last year, Jackson began the Rams' first player since Faulk to accumulate 2,000 yards from scrimmage and broke Faulk's single-season reception mark with 88 catches.

"It has been an honor and pleasure to play in the National Football League," Faulk said in a statement. "I'd like to thank all my teammates and coaches with whom I've been associated over the past 13 seasons as well as the fans who supported me throughout the years.

"I gave the game my passion, and it gave me a wonderful career and memories that I will always be thankful for."

Faulk set an NFL record, since broken, with 26 touchdowns in his 2000 MVP season. He played his first five seasons with the Indianapolis Colts and the Rams acquired him for second- and fifth-round draft picks.

Faulk had a career-low 292 yards rushing in 2005, his final season.

It's hard to say he was one of the all-time greats when he really only dominated for a few seasons, but in those few seasons, I can't think of a bigger weapon any opposing defense had to plan against. And even before his time in St. Louis, he was the only thing the Colts had going for them. But I think he can retire in peace: He won a Super Bowl, being a key component of the offense that did it, had broken a long standing NFL Record, and even won MVP.

Domanick Williams Davis' knee is mush. He's finished. Truly, a shame.

Ah yes, that's right. I remember you mentioning that. That really is a shame, he could have done so much more with a better team.

There's no chance for Domanick Davis to make a comeback?

:(

No, his knee is pretty well destroyed. This last season was the wait and see and all signs seem to be he's finished. It's a shame, he was an underrated back.

While I will agree that the Texans are fucking stupid for this move.. god will I ever agree to that...

however..

There was going to be no trading Carr after this deal with Schaub, people knew that. Had they traded him away... its just as easy for the Falcons to have commanded more for Schaub then they originally did, knowing that the Texans wanted Schaub and were not ready to put the team into the hands of Sage or the 3rd stringer.

Yes, there might have been a small market for Carr to begin with.. but with all those teams either wanting to stay where they were with who they had at QB or willing to take the gamble on a QB in the draft, because the same questions about some of those QB's were the same questions some still have about Carr even after all this time.

Only time can tell if Houston will get thru this and make up for it.. I mean, the flashes were there that the team can come together and honestly.. anyone who really thought that if no trade would've been made and David had stayed with the team would've started the entire season is carazy. Just about the entire team had turned on David and lost faith in him and he had no way to control the offense and command respect from his team. He would've been benched for Sage and the year would've been even more of a disaster. Atleast with this move.. David is gone.. someone is coming in to regain the trust of the offense and possibly lead the team in a better direction.
