KingPK 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2007 From a Len Pasquarelli article about the trade: And big concessions they were. Scheduled to earn $21 million in base salaries over the next two years, $9.75 million in 2007 and $11.25 million in 2008, Moss signed a new, one-year contract with the Pats that might pay him only in the $3 million-$4 million range. With incentives, it could be worth $5 million. But even if he reaches all the incentives, and collects the full $5 million in 2007, Moss will have sacrificed $16 million in base salaries due him. Seriously, who does that without REALLY wanting to play for a team? Moss would be the stupidest man alive if he fucks this up.

We'll see how he likes NE spreading the ball around like usual, and only getting a handful of looks per game. There's also the question if he'll ever return to the value he once had, and won't be only a deep ball, jump catch threat.
Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2007 I think Moss has got a couple of good years left in him at least, it's always been a matter of motivation and people keeping his ass in line. Because of this, I can't think of a more frightening team for him to be paired with. Still, I'm incredibly relieved he won't be in the green and gold. I wouldn't care if he had a magical 2,000yd/30TD year, I'd still bail on the team if they'd gotten him instead.

the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2007 Probably not the contingent that usually makes the national media drool. The OMG MCNABB SUX PLAY FEEEEELY crowd will probably never get over it. But sacrificing Dhani is a little token to the fans. I have moved on. I look at it this way, if the order was Abiamiri,Bradley,Kolb, and Hunt no one would really be batting an eye over it. It sounds like they would have taken Meriweather if he made it to them and then traded up for Kolb in the second (the rumors are and apparently the FOs opinion was Kolb was going to Miami instead of Beck or Jacksonville if Miami passed). So they weren't blind in disregarding defense with the first pick, there was just no one there they like. And in regards to the well why Kolb over Stanton, Beck, Edwards question....Stanton often blows, Beck will be 30 by the time he would take over for McNabb and Edwards is the walking wounded so there are arguements for Kolb over all of them. the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2007 During one of the in-studio segments Michael Smith made mention that he had either texted or emailed Donovan and gotten a response from him that he was pretty shocked by the pick. While Reid made a call to Donovan, before the pick was made, and left a message about the pick so there was no surprise. The fact that McNabb responded to Smith long before Reid has some people, myself included, a little curious. And the fact Reid had to call in the first place to kind of ease his nerves didn't help in some people's eyes ("Is he really that insecure that he needed an I still love you Donnie phonecall". That is stretching it a bit. And there has always been a segment of the fanbase that feels McNabb is a baby. Between the fact he has never gotten over the draft day booing, taking the bait a few times to point out how rough Philly can be, and his mom doing him no favors with the whole Garcia thing. Those people are morons that will never ease off and this is just more fodder for them. The type that yelled when McNabb was not on the sidelines while injured ("He doesn't want to support Garcia's team") and then turn around and yell when he was on the sidelines ("The primadonna is taking attention away from Jeff")

HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2007 More UFA Signings... Houston Texans signed Wake Forest LB Jon Abbate, Boise State QB Jared Zabransky, and Hampton WR Onrea Jones (57 catches, 679 yards, and 5 TD). New Orleans Saints signed Pittsburgh QB Tyler Palko and Notre Dame WR Rhema McKnight. Jacksonville Jaguars signed Tulane QB Lester Ricard, Sam Houston State RB D.D. Terry (215 carries, 1328 yards, and 15 TD), Oklahoma State WR D'Juan Woods, and Connecticut TE Dan Murray. Pittsburgh Steelers signed Minnesota RB Gary Russell and Baylor RB Paul Mosley who may get a look at FB.
Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2007 I hope Zabransky sticks with the Texans. He's confident, is mobile, and doesn't have to worry about throwing the deep ball very often in Houston's offense. And if he does throw it deep, just throw it as high as possible and let Andre go get it. Unfortunately Kubiak usually only carries 2 QBs so he might have to make it through waivers to get on the practice squad. I doubt he's beating out Sage. MFer 0 Report post Posted May 4, 2007 You know, I'm tired of all this "how will Tony Romo recover from botching the snap in the playoffs" shit. Come one, it's not as if he lost the game while playing the QB position. It'd be one thing if he threw a costly interception or something like that. If he struggles this season, it'll either be because other teams have figured him out, or because he wasn't that great to begin with.

Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted May 4, 2007 With Moss off the table, maybe Green Bay can give Keyshawn a contract for a year or two. Good prediction, snuffy. The Green Bay Packers are one of the teams that has some interest in recently released Carolina Panthers receiver Keyshawn Johnson, but whether they're willing to make a stronger play for him than they did Randy Moss remains to be seen. According to an NFL source with strong connections to Johnson, the Packers are doing their homework on the 11-year veteran and are considering whether he would be a good fit for their team. Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel I think it would be a good fit for the team, and it'd work better than trying to acquire Moss because Moss was being traded, while Keyshawn's a free agent, and can still do the posession receiver thing. He'd definitely be a good redzone and first-down option, something Green Bay was lacking last season. But only if the price was right... this could be a lot like Andre Rison joining the 90's Packers, with Donald Driver playing Robert Brooks, and Greg Jennings playing a faster, more sure-handed Antonio Freeman. Awesome!
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted May 4, 2007 http://www.madison.com/wsj/home/column/index.php?ntid=132228 Plenty of us remain annoyed and puzzled as to why Thompson refuses to sign game-changing weapons to a team that could be a serious contender with just one more playmaker or two. No Moss. Very disappointing draft (before the games are played anyway). Favre only has a year (maybe 2) left &, as that article states, needs offensive help more now than when he didn't get enough of it in his prime. Keyshawn could help stack the receiving corps enough to make the playoffs even if the presumable runningback-by-committee doesn't pan out so well. That article also reminds me of how well Green Bay could have done in the mid-late 1990s if Sharpe had stayed healthy, or at least had a better big-play replacement. Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted May 4, 2007 To be fair, drafting big names (or guys who are big names before the draft, anyways) has proven over time to not necessarily be the key to having a good draft. Sure it might affect those retarded "draft grades" (of which the PAckers got anywhere from about a C to a B), but Green Bay is saving money in the draft by drafting defense first, and asyou can see, there were abut 4 offensive skill position players drafted. You've got Brandon Jackson, James Jones, and WR David Clowney. Clowney looks more like a return specialist, while the other two will be given a chance in the offense. They also drafted Florida RB Deshawn Wynn, who will be given a chance at fullback with his blocking and receiving skills. Oh, and TE Clark Harris at Rutgers who ranks highly on his school's all-time receiving lists despite the fact their offense switched to being more run-oriented his last couple years. I think the draft was good for bolstering the depth chart and grooming eventual successors at some of the positions. No, they didn't find an adequate game-changing receiving TE to backup orcomplement Bubba Franks, and most people would say Brandon Jackson is an inadequate replacement for Ahman Green. But they did find quality players, and will probably save a lot of money and get all the rookies in camp, signed and on time. Which would then let them get a chance at picking up any free agents cut after June 1st, or like Keyshawn Johnson. I think they did a much better job on the second day drafting than the first, but I wouldn't call it a bad one by any means. They certainly could've benefitted from Cleveland trying to move up, though, and still had DT Justin Harrell at whatever spot Cleveland was at, while still getting their pick next year (which in all probably will be at least top 15). That was a dumb move.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted May 4, 2007 I'm not too bothered by the drafting of Jackson. He looks like pretty talented guy and, with the time he missed for minor injuries, will have a nearly full tank coming in. also, with how well Jennings looked at times last year, I'm optimistic at least one of the receivers will pay dividends. What I didn't like was how we didn't take a tight-end or fullback at times when good options were available.
LaParkaMarka 0 Report post Posted May 4, 2007 From what I understand, Denver was willing to take Harrell at their spot as he was one of the guys they targeted. They may have taken him a little high, but the guy could work out just fine. The talking heads trashed last year's reach for Donte Whitner, and the guy ripped it up in Buffalo. I don't think Green Bay really needs Keyshawn. One of his best skills is run blocking down the field, but the run game in GB is in disarray. IMO they'd be better off finding an veteran RB that isn't a liability blocking. Use the vet while Jackson and Wynn learn the system and blocking schemes, and they could have a decent run game. Keyshawn is better off going to a team with an elite back and a need for a receiver...somewhere like San Diego or KC. The problem with SD is that he probably won't respect Norv Turner at all, and who knows if he'll get along with Herm Edwards.
